TransPortal --- RUN!! - current mt

Posted: Mar 29, 2011

Just got hired with them... and I'm on my last day of the first pay period... and let me tell you!!!   If you get an offer... RUN!! It sounds good, but is far from it!  Their sound files are horrible, they don't pay you any kind of training pay ( which I mistakenly MISSED on my part!! oops.. won't make that mistake again), and only give you LIMITED WORK while on QA review which amounts to like 200-300 lines a day!, and.... they have no account specifics whatsoever for their accounts!!!  So you are flying BLIND with only poorly done samples to follow!!!  My suggestion RUN!!!  Which is what I am doing TODAY... as I have just had my last straw broke!!!

Flying a bit early - GeorgiaMT

Leaving after one pay period? I would certainly have requested some clarifiaction as that is not the experience I have had with TP. I have detailed account specs, sample documents, and provider preferences. I have worked here over two years and can count on one hand the times I have not had as much work as I could handle. Unless you were requiring more QA attention, the limited volume of work you reference also sounds like some sort of miscommunication. As you have already decided to move on, good luck to you, but that has not been my experience and it is a great fit for me.

Just another point of view - I have worked for Transportal for over a year now, and I haven't experienced those things. All of the accounts I work on have account specifics, plus you can look up the history on any patient to get samples. I have never had any problems with the sound files either. I have always gotten paid on time and been treated very well by them. I wish you the best of luck in finding what you are looking for!

I am fairly new with TP. How long did it take you TP employees to make line count? TIA.

The information you have shared is enough to make you very easy to identify for your company, I am sure. Recruiters talk to each other and in the long run slandering a company might not be wise. It is not something I would do (public slander), but you have to do what you believe is right and ethical. I've had no complaints with them. They pay on time, their account specs are clear, the support is good, the work is for the most part easy and leads to good production. I had no problems meeting the daily required lines in far less than 8 hours. I had no problems getting up to speed at all. They had account specifics for all accounts I worked on and if not it was either a simple instruction of "verbatim" or "go by the BoS." I have worked for 3 different companies through the years and was very happy with Transportal. I not only would recommend them to a friend but have done so and have friends who are working there still.

Ummm, there is nothing slanderous - in her post

Do you know the definition of "slander" as defined by a court of law? Do you know what standard has to be met for such a charge? Didn't think so.

Also a current employee, depends on the account you work on, sm - sound quality is poor on some accounts

[ In Reply To ..]
I agree with a lot of what you have had to say. The quality of some of the dictation really sucks, but hey, it's in ExpressScribe, not the best tool. The account I am on is pretty good but have had to do others (whatever they have that is behind) and the quality on some of those has really sucked.

Sound quality - Happy at TP

[ In Reply To ..]
You DO NOT have to use Express Scribe. You can purchase a player, like Bytescribe Wav Player, which works much better than Express Scribe and the sound is much better. Nobody forces you to use Express Scribe, its free so most people do use it. Express Scribe is not related to Scribe so the sound does not automatically play in there.

Been there... did run away. - anon

I agree that the sound quality of files was not the best in the world, but the platform and question of integrity were the things that made me run from them. I had instances of finding other MTs in reports I had typed, and my line counts were not matching the line counts I got paid for. When I questioned my AM about it, I would either get the runaround to dodge my question or no answer at all. I refuse to work for any company that has a platform which allows other MTs access to a report I typed. All they had to do was sneak in there an put their initials on my reports when I didn't see them, and they would get credit for work I did. After the reaction I got from questioning them about it and why my line counts didn't match, I left.

The sound files are fine probably 99% of the time. I wonder if the original poster asked for more work. That's what I did when I first started with TransPortal, and my supervisor was always more than happy to give me more work. Furthermore, I wonder if they asked for the account specifics as well because every account I have ever worked on at TransPortal had account requirements. Furthermore, I do not get the flying blind comment. You can look at previous reports on the patient, and if you have access to the archives of the account, you can look at samples of each providers work and even do searches for key words and phrases. You can even hear samples of providers as well.

The only way MTs can access a report another MT types is if they abandon it for any reason. Furthermore, simply sneaking into the report to put their initials on a report would not cut it. To be truly nefarious someone would have to copy your work, delete the file, and then paste your work and put their initials on it as the report is assigned to the person who originally opened it and not by someone simply putting their initials on it. Scribe has a neat feature that automatically opens the next available file. However, if someone abandoned a file incorrectly (did not delete the file) then the MT that opened the file gets the credit even though they did not do a lick of work in the file.

There are obviously some "nefarious" people there... - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
Honestly, if someone wanted easy lines, they wouldn't care to take 5 minutes of their time to copy/delete/paste the file and put their initials on it for 70 or so free lines.

I made sure I entered and exited my files correctly, so NO ONE but QA had any business being in my files!!! I also failed to understand why AMs didn't want to address this issue, unless of course it meant having to get onto one of their pets...

I was not the only MT to notice this and leave TP for this reason. Other ex-TPs on this board have seen the same thing. If TP doesn't want their integrity questioned, then it would be in their best interest to abandon the Scribe platform and switch to another platform like TouchType, as it is a similar Word-based platform that doesn't allow any other MTs to enter a file. Also, it will accurately keep up with your line count for you without any guesswork or questioning.
Old information - GeorgiaMT
[ In Reply To ..]
You can't do that in Scribe any longer, if you ever could. Plus, there is an audit trail that shows all activity related to access of a document. MTs do need access to other transcribed reports for reference if the dictator indicates to copy a problem list, medications, etc. from a previous report. Sorry it didn't work out for you but there's plenty of work for us that remain and enjoy it here.
Don't know how long a time you consider "old"... - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
but I worked there last year, which does not seem like "old" information to me. I know for a fact you could get into another MTs report, as one of the QAs caught an MT in a report I just typed and asked me if I had left it unfinished, which I hadn't.

Plus, the way to pull up prior reports for finding information had nothing to do with the way the other MTs were getting into the files just being typed.

If you like working there, more power to you, but I'm happily working for a company with integrity now!

[ In Reply To ..]
I did move on! Got a better job with better pay with a better platform! The OP had concerns, and I responded in kind with the similar concerns I had. You also had the right to respond to her concerns in whatever way you wished. Let's leave it at that... shall we?

I'm sure everyone at TransPortal knows who you are. Try to remember, what goes around comes around. Why continue to bash a good company just because it did not work out for you. You cannot steal other people's work unless the file is abandoned so why try to make new people worry. They are a great company to work for and are very fair to those that do their job and show them loyalty, like any other good company. If you don't do your job, you will be let go. End of story.

I don't know and don't care if everyone at TransPortal knows who I am or not, though it would be hard to pin me down when many of us who were working there at the time left for the same reason. If they are no longer doing this and put a system in place to prevent it, then great! They should have done it a long time ago! I wish they had while I was there and I might have stayed, which brings me to my next point... PLEASE READ MY POST BEFORE REPLYING. I wasn't let go... I LEFT! Big difference!

This forum is set up for MTs to ask questions and freely talk about good or bad experiences with a company. The OP can make up his/her mind about the company based on the experiences other MTs shared. I'm tickled to death for you that you're having a great experience and like it there. Everyone's different. I shared my experience with the OP so that she could consider that. Telling the truth about an experience is not "bashing." I didn't call any names of the individuals involved, just stated the facts. Others in the past (search the forum if you don't believe me) shared the same experience to validate my statement. Again, if they have changed it since then, wonderful.

However, I'm entitled to share my experience with them and DID STATE it was over a year ago, just as you are entitled to share your experience with them now. You like them... Great! I didn't and went to work somewhere else... Great! Let's just state the facts of our experiences and leave it alone to let the OP make up his/her mind. END OF STORY! :)
Dear Ex TP person - Happy with TP

Please read MY post. I did not say YOU were let you, I was saying in general if you don't do your job you are let go as it should be. Back when I first started you marked your QA and left it in the queue and the supervisor would move it. I guess right there is where others could steal your work, but that is no longer the way its done and honestly shouldn't you be saying "shame on you MTs that would steal other hard working MTs work" instead of blaming TransPortal for simply being naive enough to believe people would not steal one another's work? You were there a long time ago and without having all the facts it simply seems smarter to just say it didn't work out for you but judge for yourself. You sound really nasty and bitter the way you post and hopefully because of that nobody who reads it would listen to your opinions and would try this wonderful company for themselves. By the way, if you reported work stolen there is and always has been a way to track it back further than one level to see that you had done the work yourself. We are all responsible for yourselves and our own happiness and should not just automatically point fingers because something did not work out.

TransPortal--run - Tired Hands

[ In Reply To ..]
I also ran from TP last year. You'll be lucky to get 2000 lines per pay period. They put you in a pool with several others and if you're not ready the minute the work goes on, you're SOL, which means you're a captive all day long waiting for 30 minutes work (if you're lucky). The reason they keep on having ads is because people get fed up with no work. STAY AWAY!!!!

TransPortal Run - WorkerBee

[ In Reply To ..]
You probably should clarify the type of account you worked on. That sounds like hospital accounts, not clinic accounts. People on my team on clinic accounts never run out of work and get 12,000+ lines per pay period. Its a shame you had that experience, but please don't make it sound like all teams have that issue.

TransPortal Run - Tired Hands

[ In Reply To ..]
Don't know about the other teams and had no reason to know, but the one I was on was horrible, no support, no lines, no $$. Now with a REAL company. TP has had a lot of people leave since I did, all for the same reason, including some team leads. Sorry I wasted time with them.

TransPortal RUN - Tired of the rumors

[ In Reply To ..]
Again, this is for hospital accounts ONLY. Clinic accounts do not work this way. You guys have a right to your opinion, but please present all the facts.

TransPortal RUN - Tired of the rumors - Tired Hands

[ In Reply To ..]
Hi "suit". Tell this to somebody who has no clue. I "worked" for clinics, if you call 200 lines a day work. TP only hires to replace people who quit, as I did along with a team leader and 2 other people on my team. All for the same reason, no work, battling for some of the big 80 minutes of work a day that we were supposed to split between 4 people. Anyway, lots of luck to you and the other starving people.
Tired of the rumors - Laughing at the silliness
[ In Reply To ..]
Its unfortunate that sometimes clients sign on with a specific start date, MTSO's hire and then the start dates get pushed back. Is it great for the MTs, no of course not, but its not the MTSOs fault either. The people that hung in were rewarded with more than enough work to get their line counts, but not everyone can afford to wait. That's completely understandable but no reason to call people names. I think TransPortal dodged a bullet with you. Your attitude is awful and you speak out when you don't have the truth. Nobody is starving at TransPortal. There is plenty of work to go around. New teams can take a while, there were some hiring mistakes, but all has been smoothed out. If there is a supervisor there that limits the work they give to new people, they have been straightened out on that, as that is not allowed. All companies have bumps in the road, TP is no expection. Its the best company I have worked for and I am not nor have I ever been starving for work.

Same people who used to run Archivus, I'm sure they will be selling this - place in a few years also

[ In Reply To ..]
Seems to be what they do, open a business for few years and then sell it. I wasn't too happy with this place either. But then again not different from most companies, tell you one thing and then do another. The QA people are not qualified to be doing QA. I'm sure the information from the archives is still true for this place.
