Why can't we do the test once (they seem to all be about the same) and have it posted somewhere centrally for these potential employers? If you can't get footpedal to work with the transcription section it is a real time consumer and PITA.

with that solution yet, however, strengthens my belief that part of the reason they're not actually doing much hiring is that they're getting a lot of "live" files typed for free.

Your idea of a centralized test (which could be updated periodically to keep people honest) would also make it nearly impossible for them to get live files transcribed for free.

If that was what some of these companies that were hiring were doing. It seems odd, but I guess if you have 500+ applicants for each ad, you sure could get a lot of reports transcribed for free.

Transcription has gone to the dogs or should I say scoundrels. Nothing would surprise me about these companies. Expect these kind of tactics from companies that pay such low wages. These companies are nothing but scams. I don't know why you people are putting up with this. Get a job a McDonald's, it pays better, check the job service in your area, but just get out of transcription. It has been taken over by scam artists, that is all they are!!!! I see all these posts about the ridiculous low pay for this type of work, which it is, it's terribly low. There's post after post after post. Do you people think the pay will suddenly get better? I doubt it. Go to school and learn a different career.

We'd be nurses for some of the questions on these tests, or lab techs. Any way to weed out and give you any answer for you not passing. Demeaning testing. Tricks of the trade. They all do the disc/disk question, so they can say oh, you did not pass because you did not do it their way.

I signed up for college this fall to get a HIT degree and hopefully get out of transcription. Seems I spend so much time looking up incorrect demographics, patient account numbers, etc., due to dictors entering the wrong information, and with the company I work for, it counts against us, YET we dont get paid to lookup demographics and fix errors, but its our responsbility. Okay any CTLs observing this board, please, please, please explain to me why an MT/ME cannot ask for sick time? I have a doctor's appointment and the doctor/specialist WILL NOT make it for a day I am off. So, I requested time off w/o pay for the day. I am beginning to think that everything I know is absolutely wrong! I failed my audit, which is only the 2nd time in my 12 years here that I actually had an audit.
