SICK of testing and not hearing anything - Worn Out and Worn Down

Posted: Apr 14, 2014

I'm sick of testing and testing and never hearing anything or hearing back we're sorry, you don't meet our needs.  I have 15 years of frickin experience.  My QA scores are always between 99% to 100%.  I know the BOS.  I do QA for crying out loud.  I'm starting to think it's easier for MT's with little to no experience to get a job these days than it is for a seasoned MT who actually knows what they're doing.  I think the whole reason has to be revolved around pay.  I think companies know that we don't want to work for peanuts and are afraid of us, or perhaps just maybe I'm not as good as I think I am.  Either way, it's very frustrating.

Nope. it's all about money, they dont want to pay what - our experience is worth. sm

[ In Reply To ..]
it's that simple. Why pay you 10-12 cpl with 15 yrs experience, when they can wait for a desperate noob from an online school who will cave in for 3 cpl.

Pathetic. All this crying about "quality" and they are so desperate and greedy to save money by paying noobs 3 cpl and risk the quality of the work, and/or waste more money to pay more people to QA and correct all that work.

That's another thing I don't get - - Worn Out and Worn Down

[ In Reply To ..]
Why would you rather pay a new MT who doesn't know what they're doing, and then pay someone to QA their work as opposed to paying someone who knows what they're doing to type the work in the first place. I DON'T GET IT!!!!! And I don't think I'll ever get it. Seems like bad business management if you ask me.

Maybe its a sign you need to get out this field - coding student

[ In Reply To ..]
i'm trying to get out of this field as fast as possible. can't understand why anyone would want to try to get in. Best of luck to you.

I can't understand why anyone would - want to try to get in

[ In Reply To ..]
to coding now either. Coding is the in the sites of the companies who outsource and offshore. Wont be long until you're in the same situation.

Anyone going into coding now is just jumping into a different frying pan.

Same story here... - feel your pain

15+ years experience, SR experience, and working QA now, looking for part time cash... also told "other candidates are of higher caliber" (I scored 47/50 on their test for whatever that is worth) "a very difficult ESL account (recent 12 year experience on an 85% ESL account). So, I'm with you... think they know I will not take a low cpl and brush me aside...

whatever...

please who - did you

test for? Or at least the first letter of the company?

If you scored 47/50, it must have been - s/m

With TTS. I think they tell everybody that-- same with me. They wanted to pay me 6 and 3 cents and I tried it for a couple weeks, but quit. Couldn't make any money among other reasons.

Unfortunately, I think MTs are - competing

[ In Reply To ..]
with those who have 25-30 years' experience. Someone recently said that when they ran their own MTSO, they would receive 500 applications for every job opening.

plus and minus - sometimes

[ In Reply To ..]
they don't want someone with too much experience. They like a new grad. More gratitude.

When I apply, if I hear back I am surprised. It is kind of like buying a lottery ticket. You don't really expect to win. I don't really expect to hear back ever.

They don't want anybody with over 40 years either - s/m

[ In Reply To ..]
I think they prefer the newbies because they don't know the score and are willing to accept 2 and 3 cents a line. We "old-timers" know too much about how this business is run, won't work for peanuts, and probably aren't as willing to put up with all the crap like the newbies are. We have had our fill of it and know what we are worth.

supply and demand. they can afford to be...choosey. - SM anon

For years the schools have be cranking out MTs in droves. And for years technology has been swallowing up our jobs. And for years work as been going overseas. Nationwide.

Take all 3 situations coupled with the fact that all three have become bigger and bigger and bigger in accomplishing their goals...and there you have it.
A big part of it anyway.

Death of a profession in 10 years or less.

I'm with you on this - sameboat

I have 14 years experience and 98 to 100% quality scores and I never get a response either. I quit testing first and then waiting to hear from them. It seems like a complete waste of time since I don't need the practice.

Re line rate (sm) - Rose

[ In Reply To ..]
Just curious who is indicating filling out the line rate desired on apps. I wonder if those who do are immediately disqualified if over .03 cents.

I always put "negotiable" so that won't happen. I went two months without receiving a single response, then 3-4 came in on the same day. I was sure I tested 100% on the testing, got a call back but spent weeks returning her call without making contact so I finally gave up on that one. I don't know if these recruiters are overwhelmed with applicants or what is going on. It just costs the MTSOs so much money to have newbies on QA it doesn't make sense. Perhaps they are just trying to cash in before the clients start to complain about the errors.

Am I Losing My Hearing
Jun 17, 2013

I invested in a "good" or what I thought was a "good" pair of headphones a while back.  However, lately I have been struggling with dictators.  It seems like more and more of them have mumbling, stumbling speech making it EXTREMELY difficult to interpret.  In a "perfect" world, our job would be soooo much easier and not having to struggle with them mumbling, whispering, holding conversations (or at least attempting to) while dictating, and on and on. Oh well, at least I have a j ...
