E-mail regarding Eileen's death - nuancesucks

Posted: Sep 21, 2013

What do you all think about e-mail from TSM regarding death of one of our co-workers? Said family only wake but that she wanted nothing more. Sounds to me like she was depressed and committed suicide, probably over the stress that Nuance has been causing in her life. That's just what I got out of the e-mail. I know sometimes there are circumstances where one feels they're stuck with their current situation, and there is no other way out. Maybe that's what happened. I know I've been feeling the same way a lot recently. Just wanted to ask if anyone else interpreted the e-mail the same way. I didn't know her, but apparently she was on my team. I hope she can rest in peace now.

That's terrible. - Sad

God bless you Eileen. Sad that anyone can become so distressed over their job.

It's a shame for anyone to be treated so bady as the employees of this company certainly are.

Sad for Eileen - nn

Was she sick (other than Nuance)? It is interesting to me that I never knew my coworkers on my team when I worked there nor did I get the impression that they wanted me to know them. I hated Nuance then and I hate it now and I do not work here anymore. That place sucks a big one (sorry, just had to say it). Greedy b*******s. I have never, ever seen a company like this in my whole career of working as an MT and the way they treat their MTs. I wish oh wish upon a star that somehow they could crash without hurting the MTs (in the US only thank you kindly) and that you guys would get a great job out of it. Okay, time to stop dreaming I know.

Represensible that you are - see message

using this forum to spread gossip regarding another human being's death by speculating that 1) that she committed suicide and 2) the company was to blame.

Unbelievable.

This thread should be pulled immediately.

Oh yes, I blamed Nuance for all my stressors. I was sick all the time and over time that does do things to a body. But suicide? Not sure where that fits into this. A coworker died but no one knows how/why. Really, its not up to us to know details nor our business. As far as I am concerned, whoever the idiot was that made the announcement is the culprit. Dont send an email out like that. I think announcing death by an email is awful. Maybe inbox or something, but a general email? Its just plain wierd.

If not e-mail? Nothing? At least Eileen's death was - reported to those who might have

[ In Reply To ..]
memories of her. It is decent, and it not the least they could have done. I would hope to receive notice if it happened to someone on my accounts. Now and then a few of us to exchange messages briefly.

I'm afraid I agree that it is not appropriate to use a death as a vehicle for speculation and complaint. OP, I hope you're doing okay yourself in spite of everything.

May Eileen rest in peace.

considering we work remotely and have no idea - who our team mates are...

I think it was a bit inappropriate to send out an email about the death of someone who many people probably didn't even know. I think sending a card of condolences to the family on behalf of the company would have been most appropriate, but sending a general e-mail to total strangers makes no sense. May she rest in peace.

You are SO right. - I get posts pulled

alllll the time for arguing with someone on here and told that my remarks are "uncalled for" and yet, they leave the exploitation of the death of someone on here to speculate they committed suicide???? Leaving this thread on here is uncalled for.

Certainly as one who has worked in the healthcare industry for upteen years, one can blame Nuance for killing the MLS profession and, if you identify strongly with your career, it may be said that if loss of self and stress is poison, then indeed nuance is killing us.

No, I did not get the impression you did. sm - RIP

Didn't read anything into that email like you did. By virtue of these on-line MTSOs, we have no idea who anyone is (well, maybe a few folks), but the MTSOs seem to want to keep us in the dark that way. I worked for WMX and did not know this woman. Saddened by her passing, but I think you may be the one depressed if you are reading so much into that email. I hope you can get some counseling. ((hugs)) Don't let this job consume you.

I do think it was an odd email to send out, very odd. However, if it originated with her supervisor (originally a WMX supervisor?), I could understand. WMX was awesome to work for and people actually had feelings until the last year. However, people do drop dead suddenly at different ages. We lost a long-time friend this past week who suddenly dropped dead in his mid 50s, healthy as a horse as far as anyone knew, even his family.

Sorry for Eileen, but I'm more worried about you! - MTRockyRoad

It's tough to keep your chin up, but please don't give up and harm yourself! This is just a job, a lousy one, but a job just the same. Try to brighten your horizon by making plans for a better future or take up a hobby that you enjoy. Take care of yourself, and don't let this job swamp you!

Have you tried some meditation and relaxation strategies? I found this to be quite helpful and am using some YouTube videos I found on relieving anxiety, etc. It's actually helping quite a bit.

I'm about to add some regular exercise into my routine, too. Maybe you could try to add some as well?

I have a couple hobbies that I love and have been neglecting, so I'm diving back into those in my free time. Maybe that would be something you could do to help? Really, we need to keep the job compartmentalized as much as possible as we are whole people with other interests, enjoyments, responsibilities, etc.

Big hugs to you! Remember that many of us are feeling displaced, discarded, and/or vulnerable right now. It's not just us either. Many people in the healthcare field are a bit uneasy as there are many changes going on. It's natural to feel frightened and even down. If you cannot pull out of feeling depressed despite trying steps to improve things, then please seek help with your PCP. Don't sit and suffer by yourself!

RIP to one of our co-workers, no matter which team she was on....sm - LoveMT

I'm not on this particular team apparently since I don't know an Eileen and received no email, but I don't think I'd read too much into it as far as the "suicide" thing goes. She may have been depressed, but there may have been many, many other health factors in her life that none of us are aware of.

I agree that announcing it by email is strange, BUT I also agree with other posters who said she may have been on the WMX teams prior to Nuance's takeover. I didn't come from WMX into Nuance. I came from Transcend and before that MDI. I do know that when I was with MDI, we weren't discouraged from getting to know our teammates like they seem hell-bent on doing to us with Nuance.

My TSM hasn't discouraged us from getting to know each other and communicating with each other on our teams, especially if we can help each other out. She has left that decision up to each of us individually as to whether we would want to private message each other or IM each other. When I was with Transcend and before the Nuance Nightmare began for all of us, most of my team knew each other simply from monthly team calls that our Team Lead held each month. We exchanged ideas, frustrations, and problems, and sometimes another team lead's suggestion helped someone else having similar problems.

Now there have been so many changes that many of the original team members aren't even part of my team anymore, and there are so many "secondaries" being pulled into our accounts and cross-trained from other accounts/teams that it's impossible to get to know anyone.

As some of the other posters said, if you're feeling that depressed and that down, please seek some help, counseling, call a hotline, whatever it takes to give you a little peace in your life. This job is NOT worth your life!

This job has sucked the life out of a lot of us, in more ways than one. It has certainly destroyed my normally good-natured personality and positive outlook, BUT when I found myself staring at that black hole of depression that I fought my way out of so many years ago, I decided that Nuance wasn't worth my jumping right back into that black hole.

I'm trying to think positively every day that I have to get up and do this job...every day.... I repeat over and over to myself, "I WILL find another job and I WILL be able to support myself without being so unhappy. God WILL provide for me, and I WILL leave every bit of this despair at his feet." So far, God hasn't let me down, and I've managed to keep some of my peace.

No, I'm not happy with my situation, but then again, life is NEVER easy no matter what the current situation might be. I know that with all of the trials in life come blessings in the end. I believe I have the "trial" part down pat....I'm just waiting for my blessings to happen, and that will happen when God sees that it is the right time for me.

:) Please find someone to talk to about how you're feeling. Just talking can do you a world of good.

Depressed - burnedoutco

I don't know anything about the person people are talking about. Certainly no job is worth killing yourself over. That being said, you do feel very isolated in this job and that can cause depression. It would be nice if there was someone you could call even to ask a question, just to feel connected to another human being, like you would in a regular work place. While I would not blame any particular company when you are living under such stress, both emotional (Fiesa)and financial(struggling to make minimum wage) in this job, it is very hard to cope with and can make you feel hopeless. I feel fortunate that I have a supportive husband and can retire soon.

This post is wrong on every level. You have no - idea what the circumstances

[ In Reply To ..]
were and to suggest the job caused is absolutely ludicrous and beyond comprehension. You should be ashamed of yourself attempting to put info like this out there when you have absolutely no idea of the circumstances. Again, shame on you!

The bottom line is - Nan

[ In Reply To ..]
We all express sorrow for Eileen passing whatever the circumstances were.

Anything outside of that is really none of our business.

No matter how bad your job gets, life is - MModal MT

still worth living, even just for the simple pleasures in life, like watching the sunrise each morning or even watching it set. Please, if you ever feel that way, that there is no way out, talk to someone or e-mail me or someone else.

If American MTs Get QCd To Death, How In The World
Aug 03, 2013

are MTs from India doing well? I was born and raised in the U.S., I was an English/writing major, and I'm QCd into the ground, which makes me wonder - how the heck are people from India and other countries doing as MTs? Can they REALLY do better than those of us who grew up speaking the language, have spent years doing MT, especially since some of us are English experts (and probably ALL of us are English experts compared to those in India)?! What is going on here, seriously? ...
