Does TT overhire and/or manipulate pools so people cannot get enough work? - Wondering

Posted: Nov 01, 2010

As of late, I am wondering.  They are nice and all, but my primary account has been running out of work.  I purposely work 2nd shift knowing a lot of people want to work days and all so I can avoid the lack of work issue.  It just seems weird.  The account I work on is pretty regular and easy to predict when they are going to dictate and lately it seems like not much of anything or when there does seem to be a good amount of work, it seems like it all magically disappears.  I thought I would post something and perhaps others who work at TT can tell me if they are seeing the same thing or if I am nuts.

What would be their benefit in trying to manipulate things so you have no work? nm - Makes no sense

Makes no sense? It is so easy to manipulate pools and work. So easy to 'mask' jobs and so easy to block out. That is what Dictaphone and Lanier have done in the hospital business for years. Trick of the trade.

Nah, highly doubtful - The one time this happened to me - TTer

It turned out that quite a few MTs had been hired for a new account but the go-live was pushed back a couple of weeks. The account manager put them on the account on which I worked only until the other account went live, then they disappeared. I, too, had been worried because while I never ran totally out of work, I could see that the number of reports was much lower when I started my 2nd shift than it normally was.

I didn't say anything but just observed the trend. Then suddenly the account starting having an average of 300-500 reports nightly again; I mentioned it to my account manager, and that's when she explained there had been extra hands on the account for a couple of weeks until the new account was fully on board, then those MTs were shuttled over to the account for which they were hired.

I can't imagine TT deliberately manipulating the work at all. Heck, they're too delighted when everyone shows up and works their entire shift without them having to send out the bloodhounds to track down the workers that are MIA, LOL!

I'd ask your account manager if she knows of the reason for the decrease in the workload and maybe it's the same situation I went through. I can, in all honesty, say that I've never asked a question of my account manager at TT without getting what I felt to be a straightforward, honest answer, so if you're concerned, by all means ask.

Hope it picks up for you...I know that feeling of trepidation when you see numbers falling with no explanation forthcoming!

(PS - I'm just starting my shift and still playing caffeine catchup from earlier today, so I hope this makes sense!)

Same thing here too - TT MT

I work second shift because there is more work usually, but lately I have been noticing it is getting a little sparse, and the work I am seeing are the ones that have very low line counts..seems like the work with the larger line counts seem to be disappearing. There has been a pattern during the week, and if you pay attention you will see what I am seeing, if you don't already.

No one is manipulating your work pool or taking work from you. Scenario 1: You log in to work, download a few jobs and start one, only to be distracted by the phone, your kids, facebook, whatever. The 2-minute job you are in has sat in your queue for almost an hour while you tend to more important things. So maybe your manager takes the other jobs out of your queue so an MT who is on to actually work will get the jobs done. Scenario 2: Maybe everyone has decided to sign in and earn some extra money, hence, more MTs working. Again, no one is taking jobs from you, everyone has the opportunity to get as many lines as they can whenever they want. Scenario 3: Are you not getting your lines in because of the difficult dictators that you choose to bypass in hopes of getting someone better? Don't worry, someone will come along and scoop up the cruddy doctor and the lines all the while getting a better handle on his accent ensuring more work when you decide to "take a break" when the jobs from Dr. Difficult show up and you can't handle them.

Do you all expect the MTSOs to FORCE the hospitals to send more dictation? You just can't make the doctors dictate.

I do not sign on and then take off or gab on the phone when I am working. If anything, I am the total opposite. As far as scenario 2, you just described what MTs do when they are ICs, not employees. I know when I was hired on, I was asked to pick my schedule with days and shift inclusive of 1 weekend day. If people want to come on and do some extra lines, that is alright, but if you have people coming on and doing a bunch of lines so where people who are coming on for their regularly scheduled shift have difficulty getting their lines, then that's wrong.

Having worked in and out house you are not really correct. Excuse me but you think everyone is like this and the companies are so fair? Not so. Having seen the personalities also that are in and out, you are assuming. If you have a difficult doctor and you are struggling, yes it sure does look like you are being interrupted. Maybe you are searching for the nursing home that is garbled, or the doctor, or the medication. Not everything is all 'just type.' Some of us don't want to leave just holes. But then how about everyone bypassing and that is all you seem to get. Plus, you are masked for work. You also can block out work. In-house it was 'give the service all the difficult doctors.' You can do that you know. Don't think that cherry picking new, especially now when it means your paycheck. It has been done since the start of the typed report.

I think I am partially right . . .at least overhiring - Wondering

I never really look, but was looking at the jobs listings on MT Stars and I noticed they have a bunch of jobs open for what seem like graveyard shift. Just great. You'll have a bunch of people working overnight so when the first shift comes on they'll be nothing really for them and so they'll have to come on later, cutting into second shift, making a deficit for second shift. I know when I signed on today, there was only 1 job in the queue. I think that this is a sign to look for something else. I think I'm just going to stick with purely IC work because I'll tell you what - remarkably enough IC work has been more stable and less BS. Thanks to all who answered my original post:)

No...but there are other issues here - Former TTer

They are not the best when it comes to scheduling coverage. There are times when coverage is much better than others, and you may be in the one that is not so hot RIGHT NOW.

The only way to combat this is to have several accounts to work on. If one is low, you can flow over to another.

It is nothing sinister with TT, they are not as well organized as they might be...of course you can say that about 90% of the MTSOs out there.

CCM Cutting Helper Pools So People Will Change Schedule
Sep 15, 2011

So had work for 2 days out of the week with no problems and then all of a sudden an email appears that help is needed for the weekend and also wanting people to change their schedules to the weekend.  All of a sudden, no jobs available appear.  Apparently, work is just cut off until people start volunteering to change their schedule or volunteering to cover hours on the weekend and when some poor schmoe changes their schedule or volunteers, all of a sudden we have work again.  Tot ...

Work Pools/performance Punishment... What To Do?
Oct 21, 2009

It has become obvious that a company is putting us in work pools, NOT to get improved TAT, but to either play favorites or to give the primo/better dictators to the MTs who cannot handle the crappiest dictators.  I have noted that I have had the same lousy dictators over and over again, no matter what time of day I work or which days of the week.   I never seem to get the ones that I consider better dictators, nor do I seem to be getting the long consults (which I also like).  ...
