I usually come to this forum for good, solid, BRUTALLY HONEST opinon and help. I have seen this field deteriorate over the years and got to wondering if the suits at MQ have any idea how long some of us have done this work and how poorly they are treating highly qualified, experiences MTs. I am very curious to see how many years of experience we have.

I personally have 28 years experience and for the past 3 years have not brought in more than 20K. When I used to work inhouse, the max I made was 56K. WITH BENEFITS AND BONUSES AND OT! I am 50.

Been with MQ since Transcriptions LTD in 1995. When I started I was averaging about 20-25K yearly and gradually as my speed and knowledge grew, so did my paycheck around 5k per year. My peak was over 43,000 in 2008. 2009 it fell to 29,000. 2010 it will be around 15k (I'm being generous).

I'm moving on from MT though, this company and profession is so disheartening. I have never heard of a company that does this to its employees. Continually lying to them about the benefits of all the changes when clearly we are getting paycuts left and right. Also the micro managing, the VR, the worst of the worst dictators, the absent or plain rude technical support. Not to mention it seems like they are discouraging us to quit, so they can ship it all overseas? I don't know, that may be simply paranoia.

My friend worked at Bank One for about 7 years, and there was a company wide lay-off. She received 20,000K severence. My brother-in-law worked for Chevron for 15 years and there was a lay-off about six months ago. He received a years pay severence (about 40,000K). This is what supposed to happen! They paid off their debt, updated their cars, and bought new furniture. I'm sinking in debt because of my employer!!

I feel like I have been loyal and its bitten me in the behind. Like how a dog continually bounces back to its owner, only to be kicked. Then being called back, trustingly, only to be kicked again. Its like a mean cruel game. I wonder if they feel they can get away with it because we are women and isolated at home. I'm surprised their practices are legal...unethical sure, but is it really legal?

I wish this company had the solid ethics it takes to do this, instead of being so cheap and pushing us out the back door. They make money hand over fist, I have never seen such greed! My rant is over. I'm 38 btw.

I have over 20 years experience. I'm 54. I too worked for Transcriptions LTD at one time. I worked at home and even had some clients request me.

OMG - severance pay! My problems would be solved - I would actually be able to eat while paying my tuition for my new vocation.

I feel your pain. I just turned 50. Started Transcriptions LTD in 1998 after being outsourced from different line of work. Down to about 1/3 of previous pay at almost 14,000 per year. Last child off to college next week. I am so blue over this job and what to do in the future. Thirty-two years of work experience and I am ashamed to leave the house and speak with "real" people and ashamed to look in mirror.

Went to college and received Medical Transcription certificate and an AA degree.

Now make 13,000 A YEAR! POVERTY WAGE.

I know this is a little thing, but after 2 years it is a little annoying. Why do you ask MTs to look up physician names and addresses that are not in the database and to send to QA? You NEVER enter them into the system, not once. I have kept a list of physician names and addresses that we frequently use that are not in the database. It's crazy to me that people do not even know what medical transcriptionists do most of the time. When people ask me what I do and I tell them transcription, it never fails that they say "What is that?" I tell them that I type what the doctor says and they say, "What does he say?" Ooops, I accidentally posted this under a reply to something else, so here goes again. Any ex-DSG people here? After 15 years, I finally had left MQ to go to DSG, then got thrown back into MQ/MM 2 years later when they bought out DSGs medical transcription department. I left MT completely after that fiasco. If anyone who works for TTS can help me, I would appreciate it. I've been there 3 weeks and I am actually happy working there. But .... I am super paranoid about sticking to 8 hours per day because I was warned that OT is not allowed unless expressly offered and only after I am off the orientation team and on the production team. Has anyone ever thought of contacting the national media to let the nation as a whole know where their medical records are going and who is doing them and that fact that people have died because of wrong medications, etc.? I thing most Americans would be surprised and pissed to find out that their private medical information is ending up in India.
