Has anyone ever thought of contacting the national media to let the nation as a whole know where their medical records are going and who is doing them and that fact that people have died because of wrong medications, etc.? I thing most Americans would be surprised and pissed to find out that their private medical information is ending up in India. They might not care as much about our wages and what is happening to our jobs, but I think they would care about where their personal information is going. If this became a big enough issue, maybe our lazy, worthless politicians might do something about it.

[ In Reply To ..]I recently had opportunity to talk to someone who has taken on privacy issues at company level (not specific company but any company, including medical) and it floored him when I told him how our work is being sent overseas where patient privacy rules we have here won't be enforced over there, that HIS records could be all over the world along with his identity info without him being aware of it. Explained how we're held to a high standard of privacy respect. He was very interested in making that a part of the project. Since it's a big "think-tank", I'm hoping it will lead to work being returned to us or at least lead to laws that protect our info wherever it may go.

[ In Reply To ..]I recently attended a town hall meeting for a congressional candidate. At the end of his speech, he opened up the floor. I briefly talked about the demise of medical transcription in the US. When I mentioned about medical records being transcribed overseas with the personal information of millions of Americans being available to a certain sector of the world population, there were audible gasps from the audience. Even the Congressional candidate was shocked. He told me that he had many things on his agenda but promised, if he was elected, he would look into it. At the end of the town hall meeting, I gave I him my name and number.

[ In Reply To ..]This is exactly the kind of action that we need to take. I had thought earlier that doing a letter writing campaign to our representatives in our state. I think letting people who can effect changes may make a difference. I intend to do the same.

To stop identity theft and to save US jobs, we need to bring jobs home to the US.
We spend all this money talking about security and protecting our borders and yet we send out tons of confidential information constantly, and most Americans are not even aware of it. What a mess.

You can try again, but I doubt it makes any difference. I wish it would. I told my doctor long ago this was happening.
What I hate is having x-rays and MRIs, etc. send abroad for a doctor in India to read over a monitor. That is not like seeing the real thing.
Honestly, maybe some day they will send our blood samples there. I hope not though.

After 15 years, I finally had left MQ to go to DSG, then got thrown back into MQ/MM 2 years later when they bought out DSGs medical transcription department. I left MT completely after that fiasco.
