Dear Nuance, Thanks for the CRAPPY new benefits. sm - wdwnwf

A $2,500 deductible for individuals? Are you nuts? $5,000 for families?

Are you going to give us ANY paid holidays? Or are you going to make it so we no longer get any paid holidays just like the rest of your poor employees?

As a publicly traded company, you should be ASHAMED to be offering your employees such lousy benefits.

And thank you, Webmedx losers at the top who sold our company to one that is obviously going to make our benefits even more unaffordable in addition to sending a portion of their work overseas.

Wait until they cut our pay to 8 and 4. Can you say mass exodus?

Maybe Nuance needs their own board? - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
Only question is, should it go above or below the Medquist board? Which company is worse? They're running neck and neck, IMO.

My opinion about Nuance - Alice

[ In Reply To ..]
I personally believe that Nuance wants all MTs in the USA to give up so that they can say that they have no choice but to send all the work to India. Just my opinion.

A $2500 deductible for individual insurance that already costs too much is absolutely unforgivable. Doesn't that family plan with the $5000 deductible already cost over $4500 per year in monthly premiums? So, insurance for a family is near or exceeding $10,000, plus additional copays? UGH!
Not just MT insurance. DH works for natl company, also - has 2.5K deduct or $600 month premium. nm

Insurance through the roof - cindy

My company raised up their deductible from 500 per person and 1000 per family to 3000 per person and 5000 per family. I think 5000 per family it may be more. It is almost 700.00 a month and this is a way to prevent having any x-rays or things done to check to see if you have cancer because the x-rays are not covered till you hit the 3000.00 mark. I work for a national company also and it is really sad what they have to offer. Actually your insurance is better than mine. Does it covery medicine. Its a little cheaper, not by much but nowadays every penny counts.

High Deductible - yoma

[ In Reply To ..]
Do you have an HSA (health savings account) attached to that? Usually with the high deduc. plans there is one. They are quite nice in that the $ you put in the savings account rolls over each year--you don't loose it like with a FSA. We've been on one for 3 going on 4 years now, it's worked out well for us.

They didn't offer one. Is that something you can - wdwnwf

insurance costs - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
I already looked into insurance for myself before WMX became Nuance, and I have similar expenses to what is being offered by Nuance; NO actually it is a little bit CHEAPER on my OWN and not with a huge group like Nuance, that SHOULD be able to get us better rates, and pay at least a LITTLE bit of our premium considering the sweat shop pay they are giving us! Oh, and you all better check your status when you sign in, I was marked as ENTRY LEVEL MT, HOURLY rate, wonder how they are going to screw up my pay now??? I have 30 years experience and also have a college degree. Really Nuance?? And, I used their support button, and the mail was returned undeliverable. Time to bail!!
Entry level info - me
[ In Reply To ..]
If you look closely at everything they really don't have any of these sections updated with any information so I am most definitely sure the entry level MT status will definitely change.

CRAPPY BENEFITS EVERYWHERE - NY MT

[ In Reply To ..]
I hate to tell you but this is the way every company is going. My husband works for a Fortune 500 company and ours are $1250/$2400 (I know lower than yours but still not anything like the benefits we used to get) and if I don't find a real job with real benefits after I graduate in December when my husband retires or gets laid off (real possibility here as company is having trouble) our insurance will cost us half his pension.

Not this bad - Webber

[ In Reply To ..]
My husband works as a contract employee, and his premiums are much cheaper than what we will be paying now through Nuance. He pays $85 per week for our family plan. We have a deductible of $2000. With the new insurance through Nuance, the family plan will be $485 per pay period (every 2 weeks), the cheapest option, with a $5,000 deductible. That is almost 3 times what my husband pays, and I am pretty sure that Nuance has more employees than his contract company does. It's not as bad everywhere as it is in MT! I don't know how they expect us to pay for this insurance on the wages that we are making.

Wow - I don't even make $485 per pay period! - So what am I supposed to do? Just die?

[ In Reply To ..]
Hmm. Maybe. After all, I'm an American MT, and it's been quite obvious for years that MTSOs want us all to just GO AWAY, so they can continue on running their sleazy businesses with their cheap, happy little Indian slaves.

I totally agree with you! - me

[ In Reply To ..]
My mom works for a trucking company and when I compared benefits with her and even read to her the vision plan, she flat out said that she totally wishes she had our benefits versus hers that she has currently and she the TOP NOTCH plan through her company and she is paying DOUBLE what we will be paying for our benefits!

It's all a scam, and we're the fools paying for it. - There must be SOME way to cut off the $$ flow...

but, all in good time, I guess. Tomorrow is a good day to start with the big banks. Open a credit union account, and close the rip-off bank account.

I rarely (if ever) visit a doctor for the same reason: - cant afford deductibles & copayments. (sm)

This is one thing (among many) that the Occupy movement wants to change. It isn't just about Wall Street. It's about all of the greedy giants - banks, insurance companies, employers, and HEALTHCARE - sucking every last drop of blood out of Middle Class America - the very people who make their existence possible.

Good example of how stockholders demanding - profits ruin companies. And the economy.

Nuance job - hulagirl

[ In Reply To ..]
Just wondering...we are going to be outsourced to Nuance next month and they (Nuance) are offering us a position there to do the same hospital account. Any opinions on the company--pay, bennies? We are paid hourly here and not sure about this getting paid by the line thing.

Move from hourly pay to Nuance pay/bennies - Run for the hills!

[ In Reply To ..]
Unfortunately you are in worse shape than those of us who have worked for MTSOs for a while. Nuance is the lowest of the low, even for MTSOs, and there's no comparison between what you're making hourly now and what you can expect with Nuance. Oh, they'll keep you around for a while to train the speech engine or they get the account rolling, but after that you'll be another one of their sweatshop workers. I'd RUN to the nearest hospital job you can find and decline the Nuance position!

Nuance job - hulagirl

[ In Reply To ..]
WE have actually trained the new VR system for THEM to use, and we are going to be put back on the same hospital account we are currently doing. I currently work for this hospital here doing VR. We are already 98% voice recognized with our doctors. Nuance has been contracted to take over our department as we, according to the board, are costing them too much money and Nuance is cheaper. Just urks me to put in this many years with a facility to just be thrown to the side like this. Only thing with working for them is I will already be familiar with the programs we use and our docs here. What to do, what to do??!!
just be careful - oldMT
[ In Reply To ..]
they tell you that now, that you will stay on that hospital, but it will only remain that way until they decide otherwise. do you have that IN WRITING? bet you don't and you won't get it either. as soon as they "buy you," all bets are off. just be careful.
Can you work at a higher rate as an IC? - alana

I was in the same situation last year and did that with WMX because they desperately needed people who knew the acct.

The way the insurance works is... - see message

[ In Reply To ..]
The new insurance company looks at the previous company's (Webmedx) insurance claims for the previous year. They see $ of claims the Webmedx employees submitted. If it was a significant amount, then the cost of premiums is driven up when the new insurance company takes on insuring the new employees. I'm passing no blame on anyone or any company, just saying that's how it works.

I have a sibling in the insurance industry and he sells benefits to corporations.

If the Webmedx MTs had a significant amount in claims it would drive up the premium cost for everyone.

The whole insurance industry is screwed up becasue the cost of medical procesures and prescription drugs is exhorbitant in the U.S.

My child uses a topical medication for acne. Without insurance, a one-month supply would have been nearly $450. That's ridiculous. And that cost gets passed along to the insurance company after I pay my copay, and it drives up premiums.

Part of the cost also depends on - Webber

how much your employer contributes. I'm guessing that Nuance isn't contributing much, if anything, for their employees.

I worked for an MTSO in the office and was part of the insurance conversations when looking for better insurance. It is nearly impossible to find a company that will insure a large MTSO and when someone will, it's expensive. Why? Because the makeup is 90% female, it is an aging labor pool, a large percentage of transcriptionists have a high number of health issues including obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes, more than you would see in another industry that has more men. Statistics show that women tend to go to the doctor more than men, at least once a year for a Pap and mammogram, more often if they get sick.

The insurance companies also want to see 50% or more of eligible employees taking the insurance, and this is not an easy number for MTSOs to hit because a lot of employees are either covered under their spouse's insurance or think that they cannot afford the insurance.

All of these factors contribute to high premiums, which leads to less people taking them, which leads to insurance companies either dropping the company for poor participation or raising the rates even higher. It's a vicious circle.

Excellent post. Thanks. - nm

why should nuance take all the flack, company is worse - cindy

[ In Reply To ..]
I'm not going to mention the name, but there is a national company charging almost 700.00 a month for family and it has a 3,000.00 deductible. Don't we all just have that laying around since we make so much at these cheap companies.

Nuance is worse - Webber

[ In Reply To ..]
Under the new rates at Nuance, the cheapest family plan is $458 per pay period (every 2 weeks). That's more than $900 per month.

What is it for just one person? Wow, that is high. nm - Shopping for Insurance

Crappy Holidays To Us All
