This analogy - sm

We do not fit in the category of building the entire house. If it were up to us to make those decisions, that would be a different story.

We are a cog in the wheel. Our work makes others rich while they sit behind a computer screen telling us what they are going to pay us to do their contracted work. We are subcontractors and should be paid accordingly for everything.

If you wanted to use your analogy, a contractor would expect to be paid for all the job, not just some of the job, i.e., carbon copies, demographics, reasons for pending, research when something is correct (labor hours). None of this is worked into our contracts. We are strictly paid production in that we are forced to choose what we want to transcribe in order to be productive and make money.

Sure the house builder comes across the buried sewage tank, but then he charges for removal or has to pay someone to do it. Not us, we take of the sewage tank ourselves, then get feedback that we didn't do it correctly because some higher than mighty QA person decides they want to call it just a "tank" and not add the word sewage. You know, because everyone wants job security.

We need more pay for ESLs and more difficult dictators and account specs that are pages and pages of rules. We cannot be productive if we have to keep switching dictators. It is a no-brainer.

It is not about finding a new career in MT. It's all about the corporate greed and greed of the MTSOs to pay us the least possible while they pad their pockets with the profits. Then, they play victim to the MT as if they didn't know when they signed the contract what they were dealing with and most know by now, trust me on that. The problem is they already had the money spent they thought they'd be making off the MT and now MTs are not falling for it any longer.

No raises, no extra from me. You have to give respect to receive it. That's just human nature. You get more bees with honey.

These MTSOs know this is a sinking ship, but they fell for it anyway and now they are forced to be little branches of these larger companies that no longer want to pay benefits or unemployment when things happen to their programs or they run out of work.

It is like some people believe that free installation means, the carpet installer is going to come and tear out the old and move furniture, etc., all for the price quoted. No, not true. Installation means, you should have that room cleaned out, old carpet pulled up and ready for the new product. Also, if supplies or other duties are needed to be performed, the customer is charged for that by the installer.

We get none of these choices, we just get what we get, so cherry pick away. It's the way of this MT field and the way we are treated, so why not?

Honestly, all the dictators I get are lacking in skills or require special attention, so we are always getting the short end of the stick, the mumblers, the fast talkers, the ESLs, the ones who can't make up their minds.

End of rant.
