No matter what your experience, Nuance will NOT pay more than - 8/4???

Posted: Jul 24, 2012

would like to make a lateral move away from Mmodal and their Big Brother schedule and time clock, but I make 9 cpl and would at least like to keep that with 40% less for VR.  Anybody been successful in negotiating a lateral move with same pay?

Nope. - anon

I have 15+ years experience, most of that in acute care and 8/4 was the final offer. I did get a super good schedule though.

I am pretty sure you stay at 8/4 forever, and ever and ever also.

No - anon

You can bribe, scream, threaten to quit, and you can't get money out of them. Blood from a turnip. Trust me, I'm very experienced and "valued" but not enough to pay more money. Run away.

We were just given another MT survey to complete, LOL as if they actually take into consideration what any of us think. In this survey and the last I stated that MTs with years of experience should be paid more than a newbie just coming out of school and I think those of us who work on ESL dominant accounts should also be paid more to work on those accounts. Do you think they will actually listen to us and raise our pay, NOPE. I mentioned that we are probably the only people working in the healthcare field that DO NOT get a raise, unless we can type faster. Ha try that one out on doctors that have so much disregard for the MTs with crappy dictations, having to be perfect, which mind you the doctors are not, and having to do more to the headers and the cc's fields than the actual dictation...or try this on for size, have back to back edits that need to be retyped and only getting paid for an edit b/c when you bring that to the attention of the TL's, they do not change your pay rate for those dictation. Its a wash, stressful, unappreciated...by the way, QA is my best friend as well. HA HA HA....only we get along on nothing. In the past few days I was marked off for putting in the wrong date, when I wasn't the one to put in the date at all, in fact I pended it for date verification b/c the dr never gave the date. In the past few days it has also been brought to my attention that I am doing other things wrong, per QA, yet I am following the account specifics. I just can't win, making crappy pay for more anguish. It didn't use to be this bad!!! Now every day I sit here to work and think why am I doing this to myself, pending more than anything just b/c I get marked off for anything if I would even use my own judgement.

Yup, me too. - anon

Years as an MT, get paid same as someone pounding out easy clinic notes while I do everything and mostly ESL.

QA has gotten worse, not better, in the past few months, being marked off for very petty things (subjectively placed commas for one) and yes, being marked off for things that are contradictory to account specs. I had always been over 99% but now just barely under.

It is very bizarre. Nuance seems to have no desire to make the MT feel as if they are a vaulable member of their business. I suppose that is because they don't think we are.

know how you feel - cassie

Yep, my account is basically ESL of crap. I do like doing the ESL accounts, but really. I made a remark to my QA over a week ago for clarification, she stated that, of course, QA was correct, however, I replied back with then why doesn't it state as such in the account specs? Of course no response back. What do you do. The past few weeks instead of being ready to work, its more like ugh why, I don't feel like it. Only b/c I know that no matter what i do and what crappy dr I have, i'm going to get nailed for something. Yep I was taken 25 points off on 1 dictation for USING COMMAS IN LABS instead of making EACH lab a separate sentence...um since when do we do that....on an all verbat account, suddenly this isn't verbat, that isn't verbat and nope that isn't either...ok so then what is??? No response there either.

another thought... - cassie

You know just thinking most companies state that wages are down b/c of the recession, trying to save money, but here's a thought...Nuance really doesn't have overhead to cover. Meaning they aren't paying for a facility for us to work in and all that goes with that, we pay our own net, electric, etc and whatever supplies we need to work, we pay for that too...so really what is their excuse for no wage increase. Insane!!! After a while you get sick of having years of experience and STILL making the same pay wage.

It takes money to expand their Indian operation. - anon

and we don't make the SAME pay, we make LESS pay. When I started out on VR it was 6 cpl and straight was 10 cpl.

i started at... - cassie

[ In Reply To ..]
I started at 5 for VR and 9 for straight type. As of now, the dictations are that horrible half the time that I can do an all type quicker than an edit. Aren't edits supposed to be a quick run through, ha I laugh at that notion. Months back we were sent out an email about our account asking us where we are the best at, as far as work types and specialty. Funny after I responded back to that email, my Q is now filled with all the specialties that are not my "best" that I can be at production. My production has gone down, my checks have drastically went down. I could cry when thinking just a few years ago working for another company I was actually making good money, now not so much. I am embarrassed to even look at my paycheck.
Oh my gosh, me too. - anon

I remember that e-mail and the same thing happened to me. I ended up with all the work types I said I liked the least and was weakest at.

I won't be paranoid and say they are doing it on purpose, maybe they are just completely incompetent.

LOL I think we might be on the same account from well....

I thought it was just me ending up with everything I was weakest at or didn't like to do as well. You would think on an account that they beg you to work more, why when we are just slammed even harder and claim to offer OT, although I never get OT pay so i don't work it anymore...why not give us what we are strongest at to get the dictations out the door faster. LOL you see we fell for the trap in actually thinking they cared about our end of the deal. This way they can knock us down even more and make us feel stupid. Gotta say, love the comments we are given. So glad I don't work in an office building with some of these people b/c it sure wouldn't be pretty.

My Nuance Experience
Jul 04, 2013

Happy 4th! I too am OOW, although I expected it to be that way. I took a PT position at Nuance back in February after we sold our home, got a rental, then bought a short sale. Having a fixer-upper, a mortgage and a rent payment, I needed some supplemental income. I've been an MT since 1996. Jumped in, no school, no certification. Bought an Olympus transcriber (cassette) and a Taber's. My first client was a general who saw 60+ patients a day. Paid me 8 cpl and trained me. Mov ...

Working For Nuance: A Truly Kafkaesque Experience!
May 06, 2015

If you doubt me, see the "Urban Dictionary" definition.  It's about as good as any that I have seen:   http://tinyurl.com/28rqen4 After working for far too long for a smaller MTSO, which was aquired by Nuance and which also treated its workers like dirt, and coming to this company, I begin to wonder if this is just the state of affairs in Health Information Services or just employment in the United States generally.  Trying to get and keep a decently paying job just seems l ...

Advice-Mixed Reviews On Transcend And Nuance, Anyone Care To Share Their Experience??

I am looking for a FT job with benefits and steady work.  I am considering applying to these 2 companies so I am hoping some will share their experiences good and bad so I can have something to compare to.  I currently am working on eScription through a local hospital as an IC so I wanted to apply at companies that I knew had eScription as I feel I am most productive on this platform. ...

Getting Out Of MT -- No Matter WHAT!
Feb 26, 2012

My 2-1/2-decade MT career is coming to an end. When I think back on how *HAPPY* I was back in the good ole days (late 80s into late 90s) as an MT and then contrast that with the picture now, it makes me want to cry.  We made GOOD money for someone without a degree, had GOOD benefits, and were at least somewhat appreciated back then.  In retrospect (hindsight is always 20/20), working conditions began going downhill when we became isolated from the physicians (as if we w ...

Is This A Legal Matter?
Dec 26, 2009

I was hired full-time by a small company 3 months ago, offered 15.00 hr, just recently demoted because of a complaint of quality (which was very questionable), told they would pay me 5 cpl (woohoo) for production.  Now they are not supplying me with any work, let alone full-time work!  Dont they have an obligation to fire me, lay me off or supply me with work?  How can they do this?  I cant get unemployment if I'm employed, but my employer isnt supplying me with any work ...

No Matter How Hard I Try, I Just Cannot Keep My Lph Up.
Jan 30, 2015

I'm surprised I haven't received performance management yet. I just cannot keep my line count up high enough since going to Fluency 7.6. This is too frustrating. Maybe I should copy a job into Word and see if the line count matches. Although, it could be because the ASR output has been so horrible and I am stopping 3x more to make corrections. I don't get why ASR outputs synonyms of what was said and alternative ways to phrase what was said, not to mention the downright w ...

A Matter Of National Security?
Sep 28, 2012

With the nature of world affairs and US relations such as they are, I can't help but think how wrong it is for companies in general, but specifically MTSOs, to be sending highly sensitive information overseas the way they do. It scares me to think about my social security number, date of birth, address, etc. being handled by someone who doesn't necessarily feel the sense that they must protect that information. Maybe instead of complaining about how much work is being offshored, we s ...

Why Does Upload Speed Matter?

I don't get it. Suddenly companies are asking about download & upload speed of my computer. My computer has worked just fine for MT work for over 9 years now. Does Company Feedback Really Matter In This Industry?
Jun 22, 2011

I read in my textbooks that an MT should not be heard and that complaining about the way in which doctors and PAs, etc dictate is not relevant in this industry.  They don't want to hear it. It has always been my belief that it takes two to tango, especially if you want to produce anything of quality. I was recently pondering if it will do any good to tell this company what I believe I am seeing.  This is probably suicide but I don't like to take the blame for something I am n ...

May 18, 2012

If you don't have any work available.  Whether it is due to improvement in ASR, etc. etc., (song and dance here), there are too many fingers in the pie. I don't see how any company can hold employees hostage to get 40 hours when the employees have scheduled work times and there is nothing for them to do in their *scheduled* hours...they are told to *flex*, then they *flex* to other days and there is still no work.
