Is Penn Foster MT school Any Good? - Old MT

I started transcription a bazillion years ago before they were even any schools around. My daughter now wants to get into it and is looking at Penn Foster. Is their program any good or is there a better one out there that would help make it easier to find a job when she gets out?

Make sure it is accredited.

There are only 2 really good schools that are recommended. Check the archives on this board. CareerStep I believe is one that is good.

Make sure it is on the list that AHDI approves of. Check the list of accredited schools through them. See a post done further on this page to find out about them, and check their website.

Is she really sure this is absolutely what she wants, based on the pros and cons that the New MTs are giving on this forum?

I did a great deal of research before enrolling in a school and went with Career Step. I have been extremely pleased with them. They even assist in helping you find a job once you have graduated. They don't FIND a job for you, but they are a WEALTH of information in finding the job.

You could choose a much better school, IMHO. How about Andrews? Remember, you get what you pay for.

To take any of the Penn Foster courses all you need to do is have completed 8th grade. That right there says a lot about their program. My then 9th grader son took one of their courses (not MT). The books were poorly written, lots of misinformation, not impressed with them at all. It is hard enough to get a job these days and there have been posts from MTs who have taken the Penn Foster MT course and realized how little they knew when it came to real life MT. It isn't impossible to get a job after taking the course, but personally I believe it a waste of money.
