Suits Are Good! - Suit And Proud of It

Posted: Sep 12, 2010

Suits are just everyday people that have taken their careers toward management, usually just by accident. There are good suits and bad suits. We aren't all the same. Sometimes we suits become non-suits again or move back and forth. This "suit" talk is silly. We're all just people who are doing the best we can. It's even harder these days with a horrible economy, but we all do our best. Management is not the enemy.

Good for you! Stay proud. - Suits are people too!

You said it yourself. There are good ones AND bad ones. - more of you, fewer of them

Unfortunately, the bad ones are the "limiting factor," if you will, who determine just how bad things can get and are getting. The more of the black hats there are and the worse they get, the worse things become for us peons.

There are multiple articles about the wage gap in the U.S. and how it is at its very worst in years. So, it's not paranoia. The rich -are- getting richer and the poor poorer.

As a non-suit-turned-suit-turned-non-suit, I'm still the ME I was no matter what hat I was wearing.

There were times when wearing my "suit" hat that I needed to make difficult decisions that my MTs were not always happy about. But there were also times when I was able to make sure they were very well taken care of - my philosophy being a happy camper stays camping!

As a non-suit now, it's annoying to see the number of posts shut down by someone quick to quip- "Suit" as if that now negates any opinion I may have and invalidates my experience.

Who knows, I wear the "suit" hat again one day, but until then, I appreciate those "suits" who now work just as hard as I do making sure I have work, am well paid, and happy camping in their park!

I'm another who wore a little suit (literally as well as figuratively) - Poppy

and am always sort of nonplussed by the extreme "class division" fussing by some here. It just doesn't ping. We're not factory workers, or moms sweating behind some counter so the children will have shoes when school starts.

When I entered this field, it really struck me that anyone who could do a good job at it was overqualified for the work. And, in fact, a lot of us have 4-year, and even some postgrad degrees, a bunch more at least part of the college that leaps people over the great divide from factory workers. Many, like me, moved from skilled professions requiring suits, or scrubs, and here and there is a genuine management or executive-level person who chose a different path. And at meetings of MTs, I've only met nicely-dressed others with the unmistakable dignity of people who can support themselves in a manner they're satisfied to feel accustomed to.

In stark contrast is a vocal subgroup on this board who just don't fit into that picture. For those, whose critical level of literacy is proven, I wish economic mobility instead of class resentment. This field makes that very possible for those who have the other factors it takes and, of course, whose personal circumstances allow them to take advantage of the opportunity.

Suits are the enemy. Management at most MTSOs do not know how to ultimately utilize the skills of their MTs. They don't know how to manage work flow. Most of management nowadays are people who never transcribed, so they really don't know what they're doing and it shows in how their service operates. I have worked at places where "suits" got their jobs because they were dating the CEO, or they were a neighbor or relative of someone in upper management, they had typed in high school but done hairstyling since, but what the heck, MTs are just typists, so what's the big deal? It isn't just MT's who are hurt by poor management/supervision - it's the clients as well. In my opinion, it's why there is so much dissatisfaction with MTSOs at so many clinics and hospitals. Management always blames it on "lazy MTs," but they never look at their culpability.

No, all management is not evil just the same as all MTs are/are not good at their jobs - No different than anything else

There are good/bad MTs, managers, Q/A, MTSOs, etc. The best thing in the world for our industry would be if we could lose about half of the MTs who do a really bad job and make the rest of us look bad with their unprofessional attitudes and work ethics. Does that mean that all MTs are bad? No, but some are, just as some Q/A people should be fired and some MTSOs should be run out of business. It's the same with any industry. It's just business.

Do we really need all these upper management people?  We get an introduction email at least once a month......I feel another pay cut coming on or at least changes to DQS that will put more money in their pocket.  What are we getting paid for now that they can somehow manage not to pay us for?   ...

Why dont ya just open up all the regions into one clump and let us have a giant cesspool?  Then every report that pops up will get assigned out immediately and there will be instant TAT!  If you do it quick enough, you can beat all the other MTSOs to it and be the leader of the pack!  I mean, seriously, jumping from the 15 to 20 now is such a piece of cake, and you really dont want me thinking I have the upper hand here, do you? ...

First off, because I am polite, I would like to wish you a Merry Christmas. Now, I must ask, have you any idea as to the degree of financial devastation and destruction you have caused your MLSs? Are you aware that some have lost their homes and others are in the process of same due to a paycheck that is up to 50% less than what it used to be? Do you know or care that a lot of MLSs cannot afford to buy Christmas presents or even send out Christmas cards? To think that you hold us in such contemp ...

To The LOST SUITS Or SLAVES
Sep 17, 2010

Regarding the English slang for Management being termed as a "SUIT." On a forum/bbs/chat board it is not uncommon to find shortened variations of words in slang terminology being used.  There seems to be 2 classifications of work force/individuals on this forum and one would NOT need a certification in education to realize them to be Production and Management classifications.   The general consensus of "Production Workers" seems to have been approp ...

A Round Of Applause For The Nuance Suits
Aug 17, 2013

Hundreds of jobs out of TAT this morning across the board.  Betcha the clients are getting a little bit cranky.  While you are holding your employees to unobtainable standards of perfection to perfect your VR so you can get rid of us and send the meager rest to India, you will have run this company into the ground first.  Don't the clients penalize you when reports are late?  Make sure you pass that loss on to us, the MTs.  Don't dare take respon ...

Class Action Suits. All The Comments Below That Nothing

can be done. That is SO NOT true, and I hate to state the obvious, the elephant in OUR room here, that its likely management trolls.  The law firm listed below is fantastic.  And class actions work where 1 or 2 Plaintiffs step up and its converted to a class action for all employees. That's where ya sit back, don't have to do squat, the pros go over payroll and you get compensated if wages are calculated to be do you. Its simple, NOT some big drama fest.  This IS America ...

Hey Suits And Others Reading This...Do The Hospitals Know Their Work Is Being Sent Offshore?
Jun 03, 2013

Are we taking for granted the "clients" hospitals know where the work goes, but DO THEY really? Wonder. Even if they DO know, bet most patients/people don't.  Wish there was a way to spread the word around.  Bet most people would be outraged.  It also seems like not such a good idea for national security, or just for privacy sake, to send medical records, information, all over they world (yeah, yeah, I know, not ALL over the word...not yet).  GREED is such an awful thing ...

2014 - Not A Good Year For This MT — But I Found A Good Fit (finally)
Jan 12, 2015

Rarely do I start discussion on mtstars - however, 2014 was a particularly challenging year for myself - an experienced MT/Editor (15+ years). However, I realize that many other MTs may be in the same position, i.e., having many years devoted to working at the Big MTSOs including “the M,” and “the N” and (now to be included) “the T” following close behind in total numbers of MT/Editors on staff. (Hint: Sure most of you know the M, the N and the T - and the names have been int ...

Who Is MQ ASR Good For?
Jul 01, 2010

Makes no difference that I know of to the dictator.  Doesn't save him or her any money. Probably a negative for the patient, as I sincerely believe there is a bigger chance of their medical record being less than accurate. Sure is not a plus for us MT/ME's, except those extremely few who seem to have the right account, I would venture a guess of about 5% of us.  The only positive I see is to the client.  They are getting lied to, that if they go with ASR, it is such a g ...
