...it is so gloriously hard to give a hoot!!

I used to work QA for M*Modal and whenever someone gave notice, we put them on 100% review. I never understood that as well as I do now. I am definitely not being quite as careful as I usually am. I also am not stressing about my production numbers each day. I wander around on Facebook, Amazon, and give in to the distractions I used to fight against. Why not? What are they gonna do? Fire me???? I'd actually be happy if they did because I'd really rather not have to finish out my last 2 weeks.

This is a momentous quitting because not only am I leaving this job, I am finally and officially leaving this "career" for good. This is the first MT job I've quit with NO plans of looking for another MT job. That ship has sailed.

in my last days :) After 15+ years I am leaving the field for a job with the city, willing to train me in my new endeavor... better pay, more benefits and not having to worry my work will disappear offshore.

Not coming back to MT... that ship sailed for me too.

I also think there's currently nothing more relevant than an ex-MT right now. We're all either there already, or on our way there. Although some people may not be interested in what happens to ex-MTs in the "after-MT life" I for one am very interested to know how they're doing, if they're working, etc. She isn't contradicting herself in the slightest.

Many of the MTs who left come back to visit and share their stories of how they got out. It is a lot like emigrating to a better life while helping family members to follow.

I agree with the poster who said she hates when people make posts like yours. It always sounds bitter and mean-spirited.

I'm on this board to re-affirm that (a) leaving the MT world was a good decision, and (b) continuing to stay away is a good decision.

Just makes me feel good knowing I didn't mess up by leaving MT, LOL.

I think we ex-MTers are also helping newbies to make a decision as to whether they should or shouldn't go into MT. When they see posts where someone was in the biz for 15 years making 42k working from home, then went down to practically minimum wage and had to quit, it might wake them up.

I left for work at home with Hertz Rental Cars, excellent benefits and decent pay. They hired 57 of us and let us work April through September until they trained employees in India..called all 57 of us, laid us off, gave us our severance package of 2 weeks pay and the 1000 dollar sign on bonus they promised us for working 6 months, if we signed a covenant not to sue and told us bye-bye. so I guess I will have to take another MT job while looking for something to get me outta this business. nm

The last 3 jobs I have had, the work would dwindle and dwindle to the point where I was making about $100 bucks a week. I would apply/test and get a new job and never even tell the old company I quit and they never even ask!!
