giving 2-week notice? - MaMT

Posted: Oct 14, 2014

Is Nuance still in the habit of cutting you off right away if you wish to give notice of leaving?

I am nervous about taking the leap back into IC but need the flexibility, but what if it doesn't work out....what to do, what to do? I start training this week and want to give 2 weeks notice, just for the fact that I want to keep working around the same time of day that I am scheduled at Nuance - and goodness knows we can't work outside of our schedule  - so can't do both at the same time.

I will print out the last couple of check stubs before I go just in case.  Anything else I should be thinking of?

Do you at some point want to go back? They and many of the other MTSOs will terminate you without notice, QA scores etc or if it is their "whim." Not worth it!

I gave 2 weeks notice and had no problem. I don't think - Lefty

they care enough to go to the trouble to cut you off. I never heard one word from them except a form email asking to participate in a survey on working there and that is the only way I knew they had gotten my resignation notice. I had screen printed my resignation just in case they said they didn't get it, but right before the two weeks were up I got their survey email so I knew they had it. Workers for these places make a mistake, in my opinion, to think they care either to provide decent pay if you work and if you quit, they don't care. We are nothing to them. I think as employees for them, we should always keep that in mind. Expect nothing from them because that is what you are going to get. And get out if you can.

In order to be eligible for rehire, you need to give a 2 weeks notice.

I gave two weeks notice and was cut off - the same day

This was about five months ago. They certainly will go through the trouble.

2week notice - Ex OldMT

I gave 2 weeks notice, Sept 25 was my last day. I worked my 2 weeks with no problems and received direct deposit of my unused PTO pay this past payday without problem. I took early retirement after 42 years, no more MT for me! I'm sewing doing alterations for a bridal shop and LOVING it!!

Giving Notice Vs Being Fired
Dec 23, 2011

I see a lot of confusion here lately.  Let me clear things up.   I know we all think of it as quitting in advance, but that's not the case, even if you tell them "I'm going to quit in 2 weeks."  When you give your notice, whether it's 1 day, 2 weeks, or a month in advance, you're essentially saying "I quit, but if you need time to find a replacement, I'm willing to stay for x amount of time."  This is just a courtesy.  If they decline your offe ...

After You Give 2-week Notice...
Oct 31, 2014

...it is so gloriously hard to give a hoot!!  I used to work QA for M*Modal and whenever someone gave notice, we put them on 100% review.  I never understood that as well as I do now.  I am definitely not being quite as careful as I usually am.  I also am not stressing about my production numbers each day.  I wander around on Facebook, Amazon, and give in to the distractions I used to fight against.  Why not? What are they gonna do? Fire me???? I'd actually be ...
