Some employers are absolutely hateful! - sm

Posted: Dec 22, 2011

It was not bad enough for them to let me go without any kind of notice, but now they will not tell DHS how long I worked for them so I can get food stamps!!  Thanks DSG!!!

Dont you have pay stubs that can give them that info? - nm

and the employer will not fill it out, then the caseworker will have to take your word for it and process the case.

Gave notice, let go.. - Susie

I worked for this company quite a lot of years. Gave notice and they let me go that day, might as well fired me. Yay right before Xmas. You work you butt off and they always turned around and screw you. BUT Im a lot happier now that Im gone, except for being broke!

Weren't you leaving anyway? - Anonymous

[ In Reply To ..]
If they let you go, you can draw unemployment. If you get any unpaid PTO, enjoy the holidays before you start another job.

You gavie notice even tho you were broke? - Not understanding. nm

The statement above-Im happy that I am no longer with the company except for being broke part and yes sometimes you have to leave when being in a bad situation and too much conflict with the company..... Merry Xmas!!
Sorry, I just dont understand the bitterness if you were - leaving anyway. nm

Yes I was wanting the 2 week paycheck and in fact I really didnt give my notice so to say.. I just asked if I should since there was so much conflict with them - they came back as take you leave as of today, so I didnt really ask and they knew I needed to continue to work for my medical.. they only look out for their managers... anways... hope everyone has a good New Year!
Gave notice, didnt really give notice, huh? 2 sides to - every story. would like to know MTSO side. nm

why I dont come to this board.. always somebody being hateful or a smart aleck. It would seem like you would have better things to do than mock me. Im off of here.. not for me.. been a MT for 20 years, no 2 sides..

I'm not being hateful or sarcastic, but asking your employer if you should quit was probably not the wisest thing any person could do. My manager would have handled it the same way, and my situation is quite a bit different than yours. I'm sure you'll be happier anyway, good luck.
You are right, Susie. - sm

Nothing at all confusing, especially in today's economy, about needing to work the final 2 weeks after giving notice. What hypocrisy--The MT chastised as ''unprofessional'' if she leaves without notice but acceptable for the MTSO to just let her go on the spot when she does. Why is not the MTSO unprofessional for not letting Susie work her final 2 weeks? Disgusting double standard and shameful that a fellow MT would actually ''want to hear the MTSO's side of the story''. Amazing.
MT side of the story, MTSO side of the story and the - truth lies in the middle of those. nm

Yeah, something isnt adding up here - Glad its not just me
[ In Reply To ..]
If you have 2 kids to feed, why on earth would you just arbitrarily practically offer to quit on the spot? I can't tell by the OPs posts if she has another job lined up or not. I sure as heck hope she did.

Also, MTSOs are NOTORIOUS (as are a lot of hospitals) for letting an MTs final day be the day he/she gave notice. I've been on the manager side, and it's for a plethora of reasons, not the least of which being an unhappy employee isn't usually productive and there are security (HIPAA) issues to take into consideration. I've worked at places where as soon as MT gives notice, she is escorted to her desk to clean it out and escorted by security to her vehicle, after revoking her security pass and name tag. I've seen more than a few posts on these boards inquiring if they are thinking about giving notice if anyone knows if they will be let go on the spot. It's just one of a multitude of things to consider when giving notice...

Which brings me back to the fact that it doesn't appear, from her posts, that the OP gave notice. I could be totally off base, but reading between the lines (and granted I need some more caffeine to be fully coherent), it sounds as if she had a disagreement with her supervisor or manager and practically volunteered to quit. Having been a manager and faced with that attitude, unless it was an exemplary employee I desperately wanted to keep, I'd have let her walk, too. As I said, unhappy employees understandably are not necessarily productive employees and, if she's unhappy, these days MTSOs have files FULL of resumes from other MTs desperate for a job who would be more than happy to fill a vacated spot.

Quitting is tricky...One has to considerable all the possibilities, especially when one has others depending on your income.

I prefer to err on the side of caution and on the rare occasions I've changed jobs, I've cleared with the new employer that I can start sooner if available "just in case."

The turn of events the OP is describing sound like perhaps a disciplinary issue gone awry and thus her offer to quit was accepted effective immediately; this is NOT the same as being terminated.
It's not just you - Old Pro
[ In Reply To ..]
It's me, too. I think there is more to this story than meets the eye or ear. While I wish the OP all the good luck in the world, I also think this is cautionary tale about thinking things through and having a plan in mind. Good luck to all concerned.
One more thing - Susie

i just want to clear up this issue, which keeps going on and on.. I was just expressing my thoughts on here, didnt want any negative remarks from it.. Along with a lot of things happening, I had been having problems with my logging on for a LONG time, which they spent hours and hours and didnt and couldnt fix. When the CEO told me to contact them again, I said no, because they couldnt fix it last time, same issue and spent hours in doing so. I said "maybe it would be better if I just quit". They I got back we accept your resigning, but I didnt resign. So thats that, simple. Not hiding anything.. end of story... (Getting a job and then losing them and having to log on and off would make anybody a wreck and losing pay by this)..I had never planned on quitting this job.... so now onto better things!
That is definitely typical of them. I am going to warn - sm

How To Deal With A Hateful TL
Apr 17, 2015

I have worked at the same company for over 5 years.  I have been switched from account to account and team leader to team leader and am now currently under a team leader who I absolutely loathe.  This woman is so hateful.....I hate her.  Nothing I do is good enough for her.  I can never seem to get my work done quick enough for her.  It seems it is all about quantity, not quality.  I pride myself in my work, hardly ever leave blanks, never have any complaints on my ...

I've been looking for weeks.  The hospital I've been IC with for years is getting rid of all ICs - going totally VR and keeping only their existing employees.  I've tried to be very selective, looking for that great little company somewhere that would treat me with a little respect and value my years of experience.  Well, now I'm to the point that I need to start bringing in a paycheck ASAP.  I've been offered both M-Modal and Nuance - which were my v ...

Where Have All The Employers Gone?
Jan 21, 2011

Even though I just let my AHDI membership expire, I was still due one more issue of their journal, Plexus, which I received today. This newest issue, however, lists only seven. Perhaps the rest went overseas? ...

Absolutely No Motivation For This Job Anymore.
Mar 20, 2015

After 21 years of doing transcription, yes starting with a typewriter, I have no will left to do this job. After searching other companies, it seems the industry is in the toilet. We are at the mercy of companies like Nuance because in-house transcription is a thing of the past. I woke up this morning and realized in the last 16 years I have come full circle, 7 cpl when starting at home, and now most likely back to 7 cpl with this new grid. I don't even see the point in arguing over the QC% ...

2 Jobs At Once 2 Employers

Rude Employers

Are the rest of you as disgusted as I am with not hearing back after sending an application?  Are all these ads for work just made up to look like there are jobs when in reality the ads are fakes?  I hear from so many other MTs/editors that they apply for jobs but never hear back, even after receiving permisson to do testing.  Maybe we should all stop applying and let them sit and spin! ...

Employers' Platforms
May 14, 2011

Has anyone here turned down a job with an MTSO because their platform is crappy? My employer's platform is TERRIBLE!!  You have go through 15 mouse commands (no hot keys!) to perform the simplest function such as signing off a job.  I have never seen more inefficient software in my life!!  Of course, since they own it now they claim it's the greatest thing since sliced bread.... Would love to hear your platform stories!! ...

I Leave MModal With Absolutely No Regrets!
Apr 05, 2013

I didn't get let go, fired, or whatever they spin it to be.  On Monday, I got a phone call from a place I was trying to get hired on with.  They had an opening, asked me if I was interested in doing transcribing.  I told them, not really.  But, after she told me that they have brought all transcription back in house, I had to come to the interview, if not for any other reason than that, curiousity.  It seems they tried "everyone" out there in terms of tran ...

Absolutely These Posts Are Monitored, But Who Cares?

"They" would be foolish not to read these posts.  What a great way to see what their employees are truly feeling...not that that changes anything or that they care.  As to the people who always jump on the people who "complain" (I call it venting), they are just arrogant, aggressive types who love to argue.  The one way below who was outraged that someone can't believe someone would be happy with their job, to her I say, good for you.  You're happy?  Well, you ...

Started New VR Job Today On Escription & ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT
Nov 15, 2010

I am so excited!  I started a new job today and I absolutely love my account and editing VR on this platform.  I made pretty good lines in just a couple hours using none of the VR key combinations because I haven't started utilizing them yet (figure it will take time to learn them) but I don't think avg. 300 lph is too bad on first day huh?  I was worried and now I can't imagine going back to transcribing, seriously.  I hope tomorrow and each day after is as go ...

I Absolutely Hate The New Group I Was Recently Transferred To.
Dec 30, 2013

I was transferred only about about a month ago (stolen according to my last TSM). This is a new account. Every single week it is something. I was moved to this group " because I had no production problems and no quality problems" according to my previous TSM. Thus far, I have failed 1 audit by 0.15 points, followed by passing an audit, and I have had, according to the email subject, targeted audits 3 out of 4 weeks. I got an email stating I had failed my targeted audit (1 error - date), and ...

Potential Employers Interview Process

Are The Remaining In-house Employers Discriminating
Jul 22, 2011

at home for MTSOs?  Some ads seem to want X-number of years of RECENT on-site MT experience.  Others don't say that, but with so many failed job applications this past year, even for areas that I've specialized in for 20 years, I'm getting no interest, and often no replies at all.  In addition to having more than 20 years' experience, do you think these employers have a problem with work-at-home MTs?  Like maybe they see us as undisciplined, poorly trained ...

Getting Response Back From Prospective Employers
