I Absolutely Refuse - Tabytha

Posted: May 09, 2015

I absolutely Refuse to do any more VR for less than what straight typing pays.

Find another Sucker to fix your jacked up reports.

This is not worth my time, I am an Educated Professional.  Do not take advantage of me, I will Not sell myself short!

Note to transcription companies:  Speech recognition is Not ready for medical or legal reports. It is more suited for personal or small business use at this point. Continue to push this VR crap and you will lose the good scribes.  What you will be left with is a bunch of problems, deaths and lawsuits.

Note to transcriptionists:  Don't do it.  Take a stand for your profession.  Stop letting someone else dictate your worth.

ha! good luck with that - its 99.9% VR now

that's a fine looking high horse you got there.

I prefer VR. I make more money with it because I speed read. Make the most of where you are and you will be happier.

Is a good one, he helps me keep my standards.

Unfortunately, you are likely right in what you say. I am old school.

I do not make more money hunting and pecking to correct Tons of mistakes. Once in a while you get a report that makes the pay okay, but most of the time the reports are So jacked up that it is quicker for me to type it myself. That being said, taking half the pay for a report is just silliness.

I know that VR is being pushed. I know that it is only a matter of time before it takes over.

There should be more of a standard then if that is the case, dictators should qualify for the use - if they cannot speak where the recognition can type, they cannot rely on it. Also, in the beginning, while VR is 'learning' their speech and things are all wrong, they pay for straight typing until the VR has a minimum, x-amount of corrections.

Just Who is setting the standards for what is expected over VR editing?

That's all well and good that you like it. I don't - like OR dislike the VR itself

the problem is that the MTSOs STILL CHARGE THE CLIENT THE SAME THEY ALWAYS HAVE, reduce the MTs pay, and keep the HUGE PROFIT.

Not true. They charge a lot less. I am a small MTSO and can no longer compete. sm - MTSO

I used to be able to get accounts on my own and pay my employees a decent rate but not anymore. 75% of my accounts have gone with bigger services that can provide VR and cut the rates almost in half, sometimes to less than I pay my employees. Although my accounts are happy with my service, they are forced to make budget cuts, and they have to go with a big service. The remaining 25% is going to follow soon, and I will be out of business. I'm not boo-hoo'ing, just realistic. I worked hard to build my business and do not have it in me to go do it every day just to have it taken without notice. Oh, I have contracts, but contracts can be canceled, and what can a small business owner do? Nothing.

speed reading - sm

Good luck with your speed reading when the dictator may say not hypertensive and VR says "hypertensive", says diabetic and VR says NOT diabetic, leaves out entire sentences, does not go back and erase what a dictator says go back and erase, changes left to right, and the deadliest of all-changes medications clearly dictated to something not even close! I see a firing in your future for "critical errors."

you would absolutely refuse to do any more VR? What gives....

I am - Tabytha

[ In Reply To ..]
I am upset and utterly frustrated with it. I am just Not making any money anymore with this stuff. I am only making half of what I made before VR.

You ever get frustrated with anything?

If there is a Good way to do this, and make it work, I am all ears...

Here's the thing....
If we are all eventually transitioning to VR in the near future, then we need to all come to an agreement (we scribes and the employers).

If we continue to just accept what is offered by the employers, then we fail - we sell ourselves short. We will not make a living by doing this anymore and we all may as well find another career and blow off all the years invested in this one.

As far as what the scribe companies charge for VR...is this true and how do we know that?
Perhaps they are not scribes themselves or have never done VR, so they are uneducated on what they should be charging. WE need to be the ones to dictate what OUR fees are for correcting (some Majorly) jacked up reports.
The way I see it is - If you try to DIY your own home improvements and you jack it up - the contractor charges you More for the repairs Plus the actual improvement you wanted.
We need to make the transcription companies understand this by refusing to take low pay. No pay, no work. Period.

From a doctor's standpoint, I am sure they will pay whatever they need to to make sure they not only have excellent and thorough documentation that could be used in court for any number of reasons...as well as accurate reports for accurate medical care. They need to be aware of what is going on with us and VR as well.

On a side note - Speed reading is NOT the way to transcribe. Accuracy comes FIRST. I will Not be rushed through typing out medical and legal documets. They are SO very important, for the doctor And the patient. Would you want someone speed reading through Your medical report - and possible making a Fatal mistake or having your favorite physician's license revoked due to a malpractice suit?

I am currently working for a company that is doing straight transcription, but I have been warned that VR is approaching. If we do something now - we won't be forced out of work. C'mon guys, let's DO SOMETHING.

Refusal - VR

I agree 100%. I work PT and refuse to do voice recognition, period. All it will cause down the road is carpal tunnel for one thing; also I never planned on being a "robot for life" in doing medical transcription - forget thinking any more ... be a robot.

I don't even think... - Tabytha

[ In Reply To ..]
If I felt like just a robot - I'm a little more okay with that.

But what I feel more like is the one Cleaning Up After The Robots, who aren't even finished learning what they are supposed to be doing. To me, that's lower than being the robot.

I REFUSE TO ACCEPT 7 TO 8 CPL WITH 20 YEARS EXPERIENCE-IT IS AN INSULT TO ME
Aug 11, 2010

I have been testing all week. Some companies will not even discuss pay until you take their tests. Then, I waste my time taking these tests only to be offered 7 and 8 cpl. It is absolutely offensive to me to offer me that low pay. You want all of my years of experience, but only want to pay "newbie" rates. I am completely and wholeheartedly giving up on this profession. ...

Absolutely No Motivation For This Job Anymore.
Mar 20, 2015

After 21 years of doing transcription, yes starting with a typewriter, I have no will left to do this job. After searching other companies, it seems the industry is in the toilet. We are at the mercy of companies like Nuance because in-house transcription is a thing of the past.
