Offered a job away from Synernet, but not sure if I am jumping out of the pan sm - Unhappy SMT

Posted: Aug 25, 2014

into the fire. From what I read here on the boards, most of the companies have something awful about them (or multiple things), so even though this company sounds a lot better (and it is also in Maine), I am at the same time excited as well as scared. When I hired on to Synernet I was ecstatic. The pay was low, but the benefits were great and it sounded like the people cared, plus "no VR in sight." Fast forward ....... VR, bad communication, soul-sucking notes from QA and management, paycheck constantly going down, and I hate signing on to work. Not sure what my question is ... maybe, is there life after Synernet?

I sure hope so!!

They remind me of Softscript now -- take any crappy account with no regard sm - Another unhappy SMT

as to whether any MT can make money or keep his/her sanity while doing it. Anything to line their pockets and to heck with the MT. I am looking too. My plan is to work both jobs and see how things are, but really, no one should have to go to work, dreading what new crap will be handed to them. JMO

I am jealous. I want away from the God awful place too - another unhappy Synmt

I am happy for you. I am currently looking, too. It is so scary when you know you have to have a job and looking in such a drab profession as this is getting to be. I wish you well my fellow MT. I hope soon I can come back and say the same. Please come and let us know how things are for you if you decide to go. Best of luck. :)

Does the other company in Maine start with A? - wondering

[ In Reply To ..]
Because if it does I worked for them and they were great when I was there about a year ago. Hopefully things haven't changed...

If it starts with an M, do not go there! I was there for 2 years - sm

and given a load of BS about how they were going bankrupt (LIE) so I would not want to work for a group of liars.

I meant to add mine was in Maine, too. - sm

to the poster above, would you mind emailing me the name of the company? I googled and got lists, but none included a company that started with A in Maine (they might be gone now:(((). Thank you!

Yes, and thanks. That is encouraging. They seem small enough sm - Unhappy SMT

to care, yet big enough to offer decent benefits, and the pay is better. I got a good feeling talking with one of the owners, but then again I felt good when I interviewed with Synernet back at the beginning. I guess sometimes we just have to take a leap of faith (or be so miserable that it just does not matter - anywhere would be better).

I work for A and have for 3 years.

My experience has been absolutely nothing but positive.

It's great place to work, great owners, great QA, pretty much the most positive remote MT position I've ever had.

I think you'll love it.

Good luck!

With Everybody Jumping Ship From These Companies--
Mar 07, 2014

and everybody sending resumes to the few remaining companies that are left, this is going to cause a big glut of hungry MTs looking for jobs, so guess what?  The MTSOs are going to start lowering their line rates, upping their requirements for equipment, internet, etc., and the MTs are going to be the ones losing even more in the end.  Then with shipping the remaining work to India and the EHR, it is DEFINITELY time to get out of MT!  The ones who can't see this and are hangi ...

Jumping Off The MTSO Merry Go Round (sm)
May 11, 2010

A couple of months back I posted my opinion about how things started going south for MTs when we no longer worked directly for the hospitals.  I decided to put my paycheck where my mouth is and started looking.  Lo and behold, practically in my own backyard I found a large hospital group who had been outsourcing everything, but then took it back in house because of poor quality and TAT.  My new job starts in a few weeks.  Great benefits, more leave time than I curre ...

Wow!! I Was Just Offered 2 Cpl To QA!!
Jan 20, 2010

Why dont they just start asking us to work for free!  At that rate I dont even think you make minimum wage!  This is obviously not even because of outsourcing.  I think what has happened is that a lot of work has gone overseas, but the remaining work that the transcription companies are getting is still paying a half-ways decent rate but they have taken a small cut to keep them.  Then they turn around and pay NOTHING to get it transcribed so the people running the companies a ...

Offered A Job By VMR-Transfer

I am one of the people who received a contract and was offered a job by VMR-Transfer, but when I called and emailed about hrs/lines/days required, my messages were never returned. Would Any Of You Take A Buyout From MQ If Offered?
Jun 20, 2010

In past months I have read on this board, with dismay, so many posts about long-time MQ MTs/MEs failing consecutive audits, and eventually being discharged. I think it is a major coincidence that so many employees are suddenly and consistently failing to meet the same quality standards they always met. I think it’s a flimsy contrivance to get rid of the more highly paid employees and replace them with cheaper newbies while avoiding an age discrimination actions because those higher-paid pe ...

Jan 27, 2015

We were out of TAT once last week and since then if there are more than 2 (well maybe I am exaggerating here) jobs in the pools they open up OT.  Everyone needs to make money, so of course many of us come in and work.  Understandable.  But TSMs need to cut it off at some point so we don't wind up with nothing in the morning and slow, slow, slow to build up during the day once it is cleaned out at night.  They want you to come back in early afternoon and make up ...

Employee Offered Insurance... Not Really Better Than My Own??
Jun 03, 2010

I am new to the MTSO thing.  IC for 10 years and bought my own health insurance.  It was $242.00 a month, and I let it go a few months ago after losing my job.  Now I am being offered by my employer an HSA plan for around the same amount or a PPO plan for around $300.00.  (this is them paying 60% and me paying 40% and that is what it equals??) This seems OUTRAGEOUS.  Am I crazy?  I am single, no children, spouse... under 30.... What is some opinions on going with ...

Offered VBC Line Rate
