Please!!!! Can you idiots learn to speak the language??? - Ticked

Posted: Apr 14, 2015

How is it that they expect such a high level of skill but want to pay us as unskilled labor?  I am so ticked listening to this one foreign idiot - I am typing it just like she says it!  I dare them to confront me about it?  You want it cleaned up - pay for it!!!  You want it to sound intelligent?  Pay me more than a high school student!

I hear ya. I type AS IS, as that is what I was asked to do... - reason being if you try

to clean it up, the VR won't learn. Stupid.

I have this one Russian dictator who cannot form a coherent sentence to say his life, and I transcribe AS dictated.

An example of what he might say: "Da patient coming in for the hospital place for reason of unforeseen problems in health....blah blah....drives me nuts but I am not allowed to "fix it" so I don't.

*SAVE* his life LOL - ..n/m

It makes me feel that the doctors really do not care about their patients. - sm

And, of course, our employer does not care about us. It seems we're the only ones who care.

They don't care! - Ticked

They don't care. And it's infuriating because when it's wrong they act like it's all our fault!

I don't recall a doctor ever complaining about being "cleaned up." - HangingInThere

If physicians were asked if they would like their dictation to be "cleaned up" for proper grammar and for more easy reading, I don't believe they would say no. Doctors do not want to look stupid or unintelligent. For decades, we were allowed to clean up physician reports and I don't recall hearing complaints about that. It produces a more professional message.

Gee, if we were permitted to "clean up" the garbled reports being dictated, - Nuance would lose a tool with which to downsize

... (eliminate) all of us acquired MTs they don't really want. Gasp, we might have to actually add in a comma or remove a redundant phrase!

Idiots Doing QA
Apr 08, 2011

How I am supposed to respect an institution whose QAer:  * Doesn't know that the correct plural of addenum is addenda, not "addendums"  * Thinks that "PICC line" is correct, when it is in fact redundant since the final C in PICC stands for catheter. I could go on and on, but you get the drift.  The person doing the QA on MTs frequently doesn't even have the knowledge to be in that position and flags things "incorrect" when in fact they are CORRECT; they are just too i ...

Need To Learn New Accounts Or Learn DEP
May 26, 2011

Just got an e-mail today that we have to learn new accounts with new account specifics, in addition to working on our present account. They are sending our present account to India, but still keeping some of it. I don't know which would be easier - volunteering for a new account or learning DEP. I was told that if we start to type on DEP, they will have to send us a new computer with new programs, because we can't have Cornerstone and DEP on the same computer (probably).  I did a ...

ASR And The English Language
Jul 22, 2011

Okay.....  anyone else having trouble with ASR translating the English language tonight?  For the most part I have pretty good dictators, but for some reason ASR is having trouble recognizing the English language tonight...  I (or anyone for that matter) should not have this much editing on clearly speaking English dictators!!!!!  BUT, on the flip side of that rant....  ASR did actually recognize gabepentin and Ativan in the same document...  I feel like Alice in W ...

Language Transcription
May 19, 2014

My son is interested in doing translation from Russian to English, or vice versa, from home.  He still has one semester to finish in college, but is fluent.  I know the medical field but not this one.  Is anyone familiar with legitimate websites for this type of work?  There is just too much out there to sort out, and I don't know the critique sites that would be helpful.  I appreciate any information you can give.  Thanks! ...

SR/VR - The Demise Of The English Language
Nov 10, 2012

Once facilities start using VR/SR or having a physician use Dragon/canned reports, they should realize that as long as a report is "medically correct" (i.e., the correct spelling of a medical word) that is as good as the report should be.  Does anybody really think Dr. Jones is going to make a complete coherent sentence as he is dictating; or, Dr. Shaleplcakeeoa (made up name) is going to make a sentence that makes sense in English versus his own interpretation of the English language?  ...

ESL Speaking In English And Native Language???
Jun 10, 2014

For the last several weeks I have been sending reports for a particular MD to QA with lots of blanks.  No problems with other MDs or PAs, just that one.  Found out a couple of days ago that I'm not the only one sending lots of blanks back for the same MD.  Finally got a couple of my QAs back and there was a notation that the facility is working with this MD to take English classes because the blanks have been words/phrases from the native language.  Seriously?!?!  I ...

Spelling/grammatical Mistakes: English First Language
Feb 23, 2013

I have noticed, when interviewing for certain companies, some obvious spelling and grammatical mistakes in the emails I receive from them. While these companies strive for perfection in accuracy (which includes spelling words right and marking possession with an apostrophe, mind you), sometimes it looks like their emails have been written by ESL employees. It's weird that after speaking with some of these people, their writing skills don't match their speaking skills. Maybe I'm j ...

Anyone Else Been Set Adrift So To Speak? - Sm
Jun 14, 2010

It all started approximately a month ago with a note from CCM saying she was going on vacation.  Not a word from her since then. Letter from corporate saying I had a new CCM.  Wrote that person and got a reply that she would like to help me but I wasn't hers! Been well over two weeks since any word from QATL. I was on lockdown, now I'm not. I'm still on the same old accounts for the most part, with the same old CCM listed, but nobody seems to know it.  LOL Anyo ...

Is It Too Much To Ask For The Docs To SPEAK UP
Nov 03, 2012

How can we edit/transcribe if the volume is highest on the computer, ear phone amplifiers are on, and we STILL CANNOT HEAR!  If it comes straight typing and ASR cannot pick it up, why in heaven's earth does the doctor think I CAN HEAR. I cannot!  Are these docs being passive aggressive... Can't Speak Properly
Aug 22, 2014

There are a couple of dictators whose grammar, pronunciation, and enunciation is so poor, you wonder if they actually need a translator in order to speak to their English-speaking patients. A translator that can translate poor English. That translator would be bilingual, that is, English-speaking and poor-English-speaking. Yes, it seems "poor English" is also a language of its own that only those who speak it can understand. ...

I Get Dinged Because A Doctor Can't Speak
May 21, 2013

I mean seriously this catering to their stupidy is starting to get old. Granted they aren't major errors. But, my theory is if they cannot give me the courtesy of even remotely completing a sentence, much less a paragraph here lately, I am sending it through. I know I can look at the repository and figure most of the stuff out, but that is a guess at best and not a chance I am willing to take with patient care. Sick of it!!! What If Doctor Doesn't Speak English??
Mar 09, 2010

I'm trying to get an answer from my CCM regarding foreign doctor's dictation and this 5% QA submission. I type for two separate teaching hospitals and are constantly getting new foreign doctors, 3/4s of which cannot even speak English. I Am So Sick Of Foreigners Who Can't Speak English!
Feb 14, 2011

They expect us to understand their Vietnamese, Chinese, Arabic, Indian, Filipino, Hispanic accents when they can't even put a simple English sentence together!  The hospitalists are the worst.  I think they hire them right off the boat from their overseas countries and put them to work in the hospitals-- probably as cheap as they can get them, and then put them on VR.  My MTSO increased their line requirements for this year and with over 30 years' experience, I struggle ...

Oh "Phil" If Only You Truly Understood The English Language
Jan 29, 2015

So I finally decided to submit a remedy ticket about the months coming through not capitalized (have you all noticed this?). I explained that when a complete date is dictated it seems to do fine, but if the month is just used in a sentence, such as "in September" they are not capatlized.  When is a month not supposed to be capitalized?  These used to be correct but for many months now they haven not been. So I get a call from "Phil" who wants me to explain the problem. He doesn't ...

Another Example Of SR Cannot Learn. In PE,Dr ALWAYS

VP always sticks "lower" onto the abdomen exam. Have to delete it from abdomen and add it to the PE subheading "Lower Extremities."  There is no other way to edit it, everybody has to edit it this way.  But SR keeps getting it wrong.  We all need to have a couple of these examples ready for when Phil the IT guy says it is US editing wrong that causes the program not to learn.  Or if you abbreviation says it is everyone with different editing styles causing the VR fiasco. ...
