It was recently suggested to me that I get Dragon Medical practice Edition, Version 2 for use on transcription, coding, billing and editing. As someone who works from home, I am hoping to investigate the pros and cons of investing in this program and whether its worth it ($1,399.00!!) It seems to me since the red box has been taken away that the speech recognition engine has gotten worse...meaning that while I am editing, some words are just totally left blank on the screen. Then there are some words and phrases that are not even close to what the speaker is saying. I know speech rec was not that good anyway but it just seems to me that it has gotten worse in the past several weeks. Anyone else notice this? ...

I edit the report and then re-read to proof it. I don't find it redundant because I do find errors that I've missed. I just wonder if I'm an exceptionally slow editor. I was a fast transcriptionist, but this is a completely different job. I use Shorthand as an expander, but my speed just doesn't increase much. Can anyone help me out with editing costs. I want to know if anyone knows a rate to charge by the minute for voice dictation. I am advertising for editing services and I want the voice dictations to come along with the reports. But if you get a rotten dictation that takes up a lot of your time to listen to it, I don't want the cost per line charge. What would be a competitive rate to charge per minute? ...

Providers editing their own reports, yea. Go back through and look at your old reports and see if the blanks are filled in. About 85% are not filled in. Many providers are salaried employees of the institution. When they stop seeing 1-2 patients per day to edit and/or type their reports, it will take awhile 2-3 years I suspect at the least, for the bean counters to figure out why their salaried employees are seeing fewer patients, generating less income. It all started approximately a month ago with a note from CCM saying she was going on vacation. Not a word from her since then. Letter from corporate saying I had a new CCM. Wrote that person and got a reply that she would like to help me but I wasn't hers! Been well over two weeks since any word from QATL. I was on lockdown, now I'm not. I just put some things together that are enlightening. MQ/Spheris has 12,000 MT's in the U.S., not counting those overseas. Transcend has 5,000 MT's in the U.S. and another 1500 in India. Webmedx has 1200 MT's. KeyStrokes has 600 MT's. TT has 200 MT's. Softscript has 200 MTs. NEMT has 200 MT's. Transolutions, or whatever they are called now, has 300 MT's. How can we edit/transcribe if the volume is highest on the computer, ear phone amplifiers are on, and we STILL CANNOT HEAR! There are a couple of dictators whose grammar, pronunciation, and enunciation is so poor, you wonder if they actually need a translator in order to speak to their English-speaking patients. A translator that can translate poor English. That translator would be bilingual, that is, English-speaking and poor-English-speaking. I'm trying to get an answer from my CCM regarding foreign doctor's dictation and this 5% QA submission. I type for two separate teaching hospitals and are constantly getting new foreign doctors, 3/4s of which cannot even speak English. I won't matter if I got copies of every single report they dictate, there would be no way not to send these reports to QA....are we getting any kind of special consideration towards our QA submissions for these doctors? They expect us to understand their Vietnamese, Chinese, Arabic, Indian, Filipino, Hispanic accents when they can't even put a simple English sentence together! The hospitalists are the worst. Just got Dragon 10. Install and setup went smoothly (although tedious) and was using it without a problem for almost a week. Then one day it just stopped working. The program won't even start. I work for a hospital doing acute care/clinic work. We have a handful of docs using Dragon, and the plans for the future are to implement "Dynamic Dictation" for all clinic providers.
