Indian dictators - They can barely speak English - Elssa

About half of the dictators from my new account are Indian, most of them mumblers, so I'm going crazy. They can barely speak English. Wondering why there are so many Indian dictators here?

It's that way everywhere and has been for a long time. Some try hard and are considerate, but it seems to me that the mumblers are very arrogant and couldn't care less about anything.

Yes, Indian dictators certainly are not the only mumblers - have all kinds, for sure. And they all sound arrogant, as you say, American, Indian, whatever.. They don't care what they sound like. They talk like they write - scribble. Hope they get ill someday, like I've been, multiple surgeries, etc. Then they can know how it feels.

Just wondering why half the doctors in this account are Indians. Not enough Americans available, or do they accept less money?

If dictators are easier for VR to interpret, those reports likely go to India. - (no message)

Indian dictators - MT

I'm pretty good at acccents and ESLs. I've even been assigned some doctors that others have a hard time with such as Russian, Australian, Middle Eastern, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Irish, etc. but IMO Indian dictators are the worst because of the speed. I've never had an Indian doctor dictate at a normal pace. I guess it's inherent, but they dictate so fast with the accent, and then, on top of that, my worst one yawns at least once in every single document (seriously) while still speaking at the speed of light. How does someone, not even a dictating physician, not know how rude that is?

For me, Spanish/Mexican ESLs are the toughest. - sm

They mix Spanish and English, speed dictate, and mumble to the point that VR can't even hear them. The words just aren't there.

Yes, some are so soft and fluid, without those nice - crisp Indian clicks and separate syllables. :)

IMHO, they all lack consideration for us. This same trait is the reason that I always choose American-born doctors to treat me.

Well, I think so many are rude/arrogant sounding, including a good portion of American-born dictators. One American actually ate what sounded like a whole bag of potato chips while dictating. "The patient, crunch, crunch, crunch - large swallowing sound - was admitted for crunch, crunch, crunch.." I think they're very childish and are saying they are so short of time and stressed out that they have to eat while dictating.. Give me a break! Bunch of prima donnas. :p They should practice in any other industrialized nation where they're not treated like gods.

I agree with whoever said Indian-born dictators usually speak very fast.. and they often only say half of each word because they're going at such high speed. Still have to give them the prize for being worst dictators. The ones born here seem fine.

I try to avoid all doctors now. Have an osteopath that I see now and then if I have any problem. Regular doctors almost killed me a few years back when I had tumors.

I'm trying to get an answer from my CCM regarding foreign doctor's dictation and this 5% QA submission. I type for two separate teaching hospitals and are constantly getting new foreign doctors, 3/4s of which cannot even speak English. I won't matter if I got copies of every single report they dictate, there would be no way not to send these reports to QA....are we getting any kind of special consideration towards our QA submissions for these doctors? They expect us to understand their Vietnamese, Chinese, Arabic, Indian, Filipino, Hispanic accents when they can't even put a simple English sentence together! The hospitalists are the worst. I think they hire them right off the boat from their overseas countries and put them to work in the hospitals-- probably as cheap as they can get them, and then put them on VR. My MTSO increased their line requirements for this year and with over 30 years' experience, I struggle ...

Let me tell you what happened to me the other day. I am traveling next week to Houston. I called a hotel there to make reservations. I said my name and then since it is sort of a long one, said let me spell that for you. I just put some things together that are enlightening. MQ/Spheris has 12,000 MT's in the U.S., not counting those overseas. Transcend has 5,000 MT's in the U.S. and another 1500 in India. Webmedx has 1200 MT's. KeyStrokes has 600 MT's. TT has 200 MT's. Softscript has 200 MTs. NEMT has 200 MT's. Transolutions, or whatever they are called now, has 300 MT's. How can we edit/transcribe if the volume is highest on the computer, ear phone amplifiers are on, and we STILL CANNOT HEAR! Once facilities start using VR/SR or having a physician use Dragon/canned reports, they should realize that as long as a report is "medically correct" (i.e., the correct spelling of a medical word) that is as good as the report should be. Does anybody really think Dr. Jones is going to make a complete coherent sentence as he is dictating; or, Dr. Shaleplcakeeoa (made up name) is going to make a sentence that makes sense in English versus his own interpretation of the English language? ...

I mean seriously this catering to their stupidy is starting to get old. Granted they aren't major errors. But, my theory is if they cannot give me the courtesy of even remotely completing a sentence, much less a paragraph here lately, I am sending it through. For the last several weeks I have been sending reports for a particular MD to QA with lots of blanks. No problems with other MDs or PAs, just that one. Found out a couple of days ago that I'm not the only one sending lots of blanks back for the same MD.
