When did we stop getting credit for standards? - sm - Confuzzled

Last night I did two fairly long duplex studies where the doctor says "use my standard" with a lot of "move this, take that out, insert this..." Not difficult, but time consuming. When I went in to look at my line count after my shift, I got a total of 20 lines for the two reports, or 16.48 cents!

What gives with this? Did I miss the memo, or did they just not tell us? Next week they'll be asking us to pay them when we actually get work. :o(

Are you kidding me? I would call your CCM right away and ask her. I don't get a lot of standards, but I would really like to know when this changed. Please let us know if you find something out.

I haven't heard anything back yet. I don't get a lot of standards either, as a matter of fact this was an account in another BOB altogether, but I've always gotten credit for them.

I'll let you know if/when I find anything out.

This is unbelievable! If they changed thaat, nobody mentioned it to me. This company will rob us ov every penny then can get away with. What a greedy bunch of SOBs.

This post is interesting and shocking. For all the MTs that have been annoyed with the ones complaining about MQ's practices, this should get them in the gut. This should be a real kicker for those bragging about how they use standards, and cut and paste, and can make over $50,000 a year using standards. Yet, some don't understand why other MTs at MQ are complaining about low wages after being forced to MME and to go 90% VR/10% straight typing/99% ESL. Well, if Q did do away with the standards, this is going to drop salaries considerably -- for those who haven't already had the unpleasant experience. I hope MQ did not do away with the standard, but perhaps they saw all the people bragging with posts about making over $50,000 a year because they are able to use standards. MQ, though, doesn't need an excuse such as reading a post on this site to be ruthless thieves.

It seems since MQ basically got away with stealing MT line counts and padding client accounts, Q has upped the ante on what they are willing to do to MT/MMEs and without any legal ramifications. If the standards are gone, don't be shocked. Many of us minimum wage folks saw it coming (although we too weren't always minimum wage and once made a decent salary). Even a teenager can't live off what most of us are earning now. Yes, I'm a complainer and MQ sucks still in 2010 and is getting worse.

A few weeks ago when we still had a CTL one of the MTs in our bob found she hadn't been credited with lines from a standard on a report that was reserved to her. The question accelerated to our area director (South) who said MTs don't get paid for standard lines. Never heard another word about it from CCM or anybody, but wanted to share this.

with errors (spelling, numbers, question marks where apostrophe's should be, etc.) and need a lot of corrections. How can they do this and have it be legal?

they tell you in training. I went through training almost 3 months ago and we were told that standards are paid for.

Had an excellent job until hospital outsourced 5 years ago, downhill from there. Paycheck for the last 2 weeks was $88. I bet over in India they made more than me even with 35 years exp. I have to file bankruptcy in the next month or so. There's no way around that. I am also going to be starting a coding program. A lot of coding employers do a credit check. Does anyone seem to be missing credit for straight transcription typing. I keep meaning to keep track of the straight transcription reports I type compared to ASR even though they are very few and far between, but I swear, every time I do get them, when I review my counts, it seems like some of them are missing. This is just my observation. I am presently working on VR and have been for about 1-1/2 months. On my straight typing accounts, we followed the Book of Style and typed verbatim. VR is a whole different world. Where as we had to spell out abbreviations in the impression, plan, preoperative diagnoses, etc., with straight typing, on VR we are told to not expand abbreviations. Thanks for all your comments about inserting standards but I am not concerned about mistakes in them at audits. I am at the point where I don't care if I am fired. The point I wanted to make is that the quality of the standard from the hospital was horrendous yet obviously acceptable because it comes from them yet we are expected to be 99% accurate under the worst possible circumstances. My hospital is transitioning into SR using APEX. We're being told that they want to base our expect standards on VBC (visual black characters), saying this is "the industry standard". Are the rest of you on SR/VR paid by VBC, lines, or minutes? What were the justifications given? We've been paid for the last 10 years by minutes so aren't thinking this is a good change. When a report requires a standard be used and it is an ASR report, if the MT knows what the standard headings are, isn't it acceptable to just type in the headings in the appropriate places within the ASR, rather than pulling in the standard by Ctrl S? ...

Our facilities have many docs who say "insert my standard." Yesterday I got a new one which was beyond belief. The format was wrong; the PE was double spaced instead of single. Some of the headings were capitalized and some were not. There were spelling errors. No Murmurs, Rubs or Gallops appeared like so, etc., etc. Someone somewhere had to produce this PE and this is what the hospital is using as their standard. Anyone else get really annoyed when a doctor says "use my standard" and then proceeds to make half a dozen changes to it? What they would like us to do is remove part of the dictation, go down to the bottom, get the appropriate text, copy, delete, move it back to the correct place in the report and then, of course, edit it. Doing this multiple times is not only excessively time consuming but makes it very easy to accidentally delete text. Just curious if you are all doing this. ...
