Are there any happy M-Modal MTs out there? - Meridian MT. sm

I don't understand. I see nothing but negative posts about this company, yet they employ so very many MTs....why is that? Also, why is it if you are making so little and have so little work, why are you still here? I am coming from Meridian, and we are used to a high volume of work and very good pay. Are there any MTs at MModal who are happy and make good pay? How can a place keep that many unhappy and low-paid MTs?

I cant wait to get my hands on your accounts! I have been running out of work for 2 months now. Just waiting for your accounts, and my work load will increase and yours will decrease. Oh, and after they decrease your work volume, they will decrease your pay. Will you stay here then? Probably because there is no where else to go.

I have seen posts from happy M*Modal MTs but they get called trolls or suits and decide the aggravation isn't worth it.

This seems to be a venting board and if you don't wish to join in the bash, you will be berated and possibly even banished if you fight back.

Im happy, but I agree with the above poster that you - wont find happy MTs here because..

they are either busy working or dont have time for the attacks and ridicule that comes with posting on this site. But yes, I am happy with MModal. I have been doing this 12yrs so not a newbie.

and then come at us with how happy you are. 12 years is nothing. We've seen a heck of a lot more than you have within the past 25+ years and this company is hard-nosed and unfortunately the believers are new like yourself. I wouldn't be calling yourself that experienced at only 12 years. Call it an attack or call it the truth. You're free to choose.

MTs were never treated this bad. As a matter of fact, they made a lot more money than the secretaries answering the phones. No longer. Now you can make more as a cashier at Kohl's.

The happy MTs are the ones just glad to be working from home and have no idea what it's like to take a huge cut in pay or be told how stupid you are by a QA person half your age with about one-quarter of your experience. I'm young but I've been at this 25 years and I have seen much, much better than this, so I have reason to be unhappy.

I tried MModal for a little over six months thinking how bad can it be, right? Oh boy, did I get an eye opener. Oh yes, it is bad, very bad and not getting any better! I figured ah, I'll work a schedule, I'll do this VR stuff, make a buncha money double my line count, yada, yada. Wrong, wrong, and wrong. Boy oh boy, was this job ever misleading. I did all of their switching and flopping all around and none of it made me more than minimum wage at best. Pffftt... the majority here are called complainers but the majority here speak facts and speak from their personal experiences and a lot of them have far more than 12 years of experience at MT'ing and do know their stuff.

Most of us who are still left are just putting in our time waiting to be laid off or fired or are looking for other jobs. There may be some happy MTs here...but I cannot imagine how. No work..min wage..unrealistic expectations..and a company who doesn't care about their employees...at least the ones in the United States.

Yeah I can't believe that the happy ones are the - majority any longer.

But I hope I am wrong. I believe the complainers on this board are pretty much the standard now. I was so happy when I found this board and learned that I was NOT alone, and it wasn't me doing something wrong causing me to make less and less money and work harder and harder to get it. This board was a lifesaver for me.

For me anyway, it is not about - hating Mmodal per se...

although they did flat out lie about what was going to happen after the buy out ("nothing will change, blah, blah, blah"), but I'm pretty much over that. A lot of it is my own feeling of being trapped in a dead end, mind numbing, low paid job and realizing that now I'm probably just too old and with no real skills to get a do-over.

I don't run out of work that often, but I find the job so boring that I end up wasting time (like on MT Stars) or even just staring off into space looking out the window at the birds, sitting at home doing menial work in raggedy sweat clothes. I look at my now wrinkled face and ask: "my god, what happened to me!? I used to have so much promise and I threw it all away for this!"

A lot of my problems are my own fault, but some things, like the horrendous quality of the VR and rotten dictators who have no problem treating a faceless person on a phone line like garbage I have zero control over, which is depressing. This makes it very easy to "hate" Mmodal, or actually any of them for that matter.

I don't "hate" M-Modal itself either. I am also just depressed over what this job has become. I used to love it, now I feel like I have wasted my whole life. After over 30 years of this, I am making less than minimum wage and am bored to tears on most days. I feel that everything I have worked for and learned over the years has just been a waste of time. Makes me sad what has happened to what was once a great profession.

Didn't want to get "flamed" for whining, so I found another job in a clinic doing clerical/some transcription making more money and have holidays off and better benefits. I really, really, REALLY tried to keep going at MQ/MM, but when I made less than $30k for a YEAR working harder than I ever had in my entire life, I decided it was the company, not me, and I jumped ship. Now I am not a whiner anymore :)

Good for you! That's ossom. I wish I could find another job in my area. I was looking online the other night at county jobs in my area. A housekeeper in a hospital/office type setting makes more than I do. True story! If that isn't depressing I don't know what is. I have been doing this for over 25 years. My income has gone from $60K a year to $35K a year w/o any benefits to speak of (cannot afford health care.) I'm am going to keep looking and stay positive. I only have 4-1/2 more years until retirement. Anyone out there reading this that is a wannabe, RUN AND DON'T LOOK BACK! This line of work is not what it used to be.

So, honestly how long after the transition will it be until they - take our accounts from us?

I would say within 3 months - you will see a huge difference

Immediately they will put more MTs on the accounts. Then, all of the easy work will be shifted offshore. The only work you will see will be the worst of the worst, and all MTs under your supervisor will have access to the account. At MModal, they believe in 100% TAT, so there is no "primary account," so to speak. MTs roll from account to account all day, keeping every job 100%.

a week before I was thrown into the swamp from an account I had done with DSG for about 5 years and dealt with that mess for about a month. Then I lucked out and was put on a very juicy Editscript account from DSG which lasted for about 6 months; then suddenly, poof, vanished. That turned out to be a bad deal, because I was lulled into thinking I would still be making fairly decent money, as Editscript is far superior to MModal VR and there was lots of OT. A big university hospital with very long reports. Now mostly what I get is tiny boring notes from a bunch of podunk hospitals generated by a lot of mush mouthed foreigners into mangled VR. Yuck.

Also the DSG team leads, managers, etc, started to slough off and finally were completely gone after the Editscript account vanished. Haven't heard a peep from any of them since. Then went through several CCMs (now TSMs) and quality control people. This batch seems fairly stable, but who really knows? They must have had nearly the entire month of Dec off, because I haven't gotten an email, account update or anything since before the holidays.

If I were you, I would really be considering a plan B. I am close to retirement, so am trying to stick it out until I can just do this part time. Good luck!

Meridian was probably one of the last MT companies in the industry with integrity. They had very flexible schedules, above average pay, always plenty of work, wonderful QA, very reasonable expectations, and respect for their employees. I had hoped to retire there. Is this common practice? I've worked for them for 7 years and now they are cutting our pay?
