How do you go about asking for a pay raise - ce

Posted: Jun 27, 2012

How do you go about asking for a raise and who do you ask?  thanks

Pay raise? Oh now that's funny right there - anon

As far as I know, the only raises that come from this company are in the form of ASR and upgraded email software.

Other than that, good luck. MModal/Medquist doesn't do raises - it's been AT LEAST 10 years since I've had one and I'm at the top of my career game.

Ho, ho, ho - old and burned out

[ In Reply To ..]
Keep dreaming. I am expecting them to lower the rates to 4 cpl for editing and 7 cpl for transcription some time this summer, telling us they need to do this to stay competitive.

you take that back - dont jinx us

[ In Reply To ..]
OMG... that would be another HUGE cut in pay. Might as well rob a bank and get put in jail at that point, at least then I would get 3 squares a day and free haircuts. Also, free attorneys so I would file suits against everyone and everything just for something to do.

Just asking. I have applications all over to get out of this field, but would have considered staying if I thought I could get an increase in VR pay somehow.
goodness gracious - no raise since 2000
[ In Reply To ..]
Supposedly at max since 2000. That was my last raise. I have had 3 paycuts since, however.

I hate my life.

Get your resumes together and start looking for another job. The only way they will go out of business is when good people quit. Not that I want to see a company fold, but I feel this company is greedy. you all are working for slave wages with virtually crappy benefits. I know it is hard. Have done this for over 26 years...but I just could not take it anymore..the feeling of you were a faceless person...a machine. no life. work work work while this company is making money for the 10 CEOs they have and all the schizter marketing personal..acting like they care...Sorry. just have had a very bad experience...so when you get burned...you pick yourself up, dust yourself off and move on!
how do I make my resume look better - no raise since 2000
[ In Reply To ..]
I went to school for MT, worked in an office for 2 years, spent the rest of my time with the Q (15 years), and there is nothing else. I have applied for medical secretary jobs, scribe jobs, patient scheduling, and cannot even get an interview. I think they see MT and throw me in the garbage. I have no customer service skills, I dont know how to use office equipment, and I really only know how to "sit a good chair and type."

I know I could use the help of a profession to revamp my resume, but I cannot afford it.

My friend lent me a book about resumes for 2012. I read it...looked at teh samples and combined my skills, changed key words, etc. You have to do a little "work" to your resume to get noticed. Then pray! I prayed a lot for God to give me guidance and patience.
thanks. - no raise since 2000
[ In Reply To ..]
I will do that. I just cannot take it anymore. I drew the line in 2006 with all the changes, and have walked 6 years past that line now. Enough is enough.
I'm at that point now too ... - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
I've had lots of opportunities to get out of this field over the last 2-3 years but each time I've said "Maybe it will change and become bearable again" and I've stayed. I'm not doing that anymore.

I just recently posted a thread here about going back to school in the fall. Because my income has decreased to minimum wage level I qualify for FULL financial aid with a Pell Grant. I've chosen my local college's Culinary Arts program to become a personal chef and my Pell Grant means I won't pay a PENNY for my classes. Lots of other people posted after me that they've done the same thing and qualified for the same financial aid based on their low wages from MModal/Medquist. Most of us were in our mid to late 40s, one lady was 50 when she decided to go back to school.

If we can do it, you can too. WE ALL CAN, especially since we're earning so little right now. Work your income to your benefit and go back to school for something that will take you far away from this field. What once was a dream for me is becoming a reality and it can for you too. Good luck!
food stamps - curious george
[ In Reply To ..]
I remember reading your post about you were eligible for receiving food stamps. I am thinking about applying to see if I am eligible for food stamps. If we work on production how does that fit in with receiving food stamps? I hate doing this but I figure it may help until I find something else.
I worried about that too... - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
But it really wasn't a problem. They will ask you to bring your last 6 weeks' worth of pay stubs to your meeting, along with a few other pieces of information (they send you a letter in the mail before your appointment telling you what to bring). For your income, they average out your pay stubs to figure out what you earn per hour - it doesn't seem to matter that we are paid on production.

I am the sole provider, earn close to minimum wage, and I have one dependent so I qualified for the maximum amount of Food Stamps for my state - $362 a month. The $362 is deposited onto a Food Stamp (EBT) card on the same day every month that I can use at just about any grocery store in existence - even Walmart - to buy food.

In 6 months, they will send a reminder notice to let me know it's time to reapply and I will go through the process again - this time it can be done on the phone.

I hated doing it too - I put it off forEVER - way longer than I should've. When the clerk looked at my pay stubs from MModal, her first question was, "What on earth took you so long?!"

You should definitely go - you will be glad you did. My son and I would literally go hungry if I didn't have the help.
Thank you! SM - Curious George

I have looked in the phone book and cannot locate anything as to where I can go to apply. There is a website to apply, but I thought maybe I should go in person at least for confidentiality. Were you able to locate the appropriate place first to apply or did you do it online? Thank you for your help. I do remember reading your post some time ago about the comment "what took you so long?" That is really something. I took the quick quiz yesterday on the internet and with 1 month's income I was told I may qualify for minimum assistance. I do not have any dependents, but its getting harder and harder as time goes by trying to support myself. Its really wonderful what you are trying to accomplish with going back to school. I think I might even qualify for some assistance by what the quiz told me yesterday. I really think I am tired of doing MT. It seems so stressful anymore. When I first started back in 1997 with an in office position I thought even then I am not sure I want to do this forever. Been here since '99 and wanted to quit soon after 2006 but thought I would hang in there. It is really stressful now.
Just find the number. SM - Curious George

called for information on how to apply. One question though is when they look at the bank statement what are they looking for other than rent payment and utilities? Thanks!

If you are below the maximum for your tier - then you are eligible

[ In Reply To ..]
Maximum Tier 3 is 10 and 6, Tier 2 is 9 and 5 and Tier 1 is 8 and 4. If you are below the maximum of your respective tier you may be eligible for a raise of at most a quarter of a cent, yes 0.025. Just be ready to jump through hoops such as passing an audit and they will scrutinize your variance of DocQscribe time versus time card and it had better be less than 10%. If you are on performance management or making less than minimum wage best not to even ask. Most of the time they like to look for reasons NOT to give you a raise rather than actually give you one.

As for those at the top of our respective tiers (not because we asked for raises but they lowered the maximums) this is as good as it gets until we get another reward disguised as a paycut.

Not sure where you got your information - MMe

[ In Reply To ..]
I'm a tier 3/MME and according to my CCM the "ideal employee" with production and quality. I'm not making what you stated as the "max" for my level of work and I've been told three different times by three different CCMs that I'm maxed out for pay. I earn 8.75 and 5.75 cpl.

I've been told for the past 5 years that Medquist/MM is on a "pay freeze" anyway so they won't even consider giving out raises again until the pay freeze is lifted. We all know what that means.

thats sad, I make more than you and not even - an MME

[ In Reply To ..]
:(

Its especially sad because you only earn what, 3 cpl for listening and fixing the garbage?
Well, technically yes - 3 cpl for MME - MMe
[ In Reply To ..]
But when you consider that you work dozens of different accounts each day and have to adhere to EACH different client profile, the time you spend reading each client profile brings your pay down to about 1.5 cpl.

Some days I do more "reading" than "editing" and as everyone knows, we don't get paid for that.

Email sent out last July - Most got pay cuts

[ In Reply To ..]
Some MTs were grandfathered in from different companies at different rates, some as high as 13 or 14 for typing and then 60% of that for ASR. Last July they sent out an email to those who were above the tier rates I listed letting us know they were cutting our pay to bring us in line with industry standards to the max I listed. Even with CMT or RMT if you are at your tier max they will not pay above that.

Maybe that's an *industry* max but certainly not MModal - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
Never heard of anyone at this company making those wages on ANY one of those three tiers in my entire 16 years of employment here.

I make max - on tier 3

[ In Reply To ..]
What do you mean you never heard of anyone making those wages? I have been at the max for 10 years.

My CCM said when I asked - Ninner

[ In Reply To ..]
for a pay raise that the only way I could get an increase was to move up a tier but that there were no openings. I'm already a Tier 3...isn't THAT the top?! Are there different levels in the different tiers? If that is the top, I am only making 4.5 cpl for SR and 7.5 cpl for straight. What tier 3 MT is making 6 and 10???? She also said I could get certified (I'm not) or that I could apply to be a MME, which to me doesn't seem much better, or that I could work the night shift and get the differential. Those were my options for a pay increase! Sorry to say the outlook's not so good here!

MME is NOT a pay increase at 3 cpl - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
It was put to me as a "promotion" by "opening up a new avenue of income for me" but what they DIDN'T tell me is that soon after my "promotion" 99% of the work I would be doing all day was at the 3 cpl pay scale and all my ASR and straight typing would be a thing of the past. These days, if I earn what I used to as an MT I would have to edit 3000+ lines per day which is a complete impossibility ... so what USED to be a $100+ per day job for me is now a $60 per day job. I used to be able to support myself and my son on my MT wages but now as an MME I've had no choice but to go on Food Stamps and I'm regularly behind in my rent.

DON'T DO IT. It's another MModal scam to make you think you're moving up ... when really you're moving down.

I made 10 and 6 the whole time I worked there. - anon

Regarding Asking For A Raise...
Jan 02, 2012

So I've been working for a fantastic transciption company for over a year now.  My turnaround times are always excellent (they acknowledge this to us in weekly emails), and I haven't had any complaints about my work.  I'm a certified MT with four years experience, and I'm thinking about asking for a raise.  They hired me at $0.08 per line.  What should I ask for?  And is it okay to ask after 15 months?  I know all they can say is no, but I'v ...

How Much Raise To Ask For?
Dec 02, 2012

After being with my company for a year, I would like to ask for a raise (haha). How much would you ask for and hopefully receive? 1/4 cent? 1/2 cent? A full cent? I think I do excellent work. I monitor the accounts even on the weekends and jump on when it's getting close to being out of turnaround, unasked. My supervisor does not have to worry about these accounts as I have proven time and again that I am "on it". Taking some stress away from her deems to be a legitimate reason ...

To The 35% Who Think They're Getting A 13% Raise.
Dec 18, 2014

Could it be that the "13% increase" equals the amount of the quarterly bonus you were receiving? That's what mine equals out to be. I'm in that 35% and I am not getting a raise when I figure in the weekly and quarterly bonuses I previously received. I am sure some are getting an increase, but I would bet it's more likely to be 5% or less. Dear MModal, These cumbersome features are going to slow us down. There's no way around it.  Age and gender checks for example.  So when the dictator mentions the patient's wife and says "she," I'm going to get an alert for each of those because the patient is a male. The extra keystrokes, shift+alt, multiple times for multiple jobs.  It all slows us down, and then you will complain about the backlog, and we are complaining about our dwindling paychecks.  Talk ...

Anyone Have Any Advice On How To Get A Raise

Have Not Had A Raise In 5 Years.
Jul 25, 2011

I am tier III and I still am not at top pay. Today I asked my CCM for a raise and she said she will put in the paperwork. Why do I feel I still will be denied even though I have met all the requirements. More than likely I will be denied because they do not want any MT to make above minimum wage. Also I really feel bad for the MTs who had their pay cut. That is just not right. I notice when I ask why the pay cut the answer is always to level the playing field and to make it fair to the other MT ...

No Chance Of A Raise

As an MT, there's no chance of getting a raise or promotion, and so there's little incentive or motivation, especially being paid pennies per line.
