At least getting a small raise, might not be at - MTing but a raise is a raise

Posted: Oct 22, 2014

Noticed that SS receipients are going to be getting a 1.7% increase this coming year. They are saying that will average out to about $20.00 per person extra. I might be getting a little more being as they are saying the average per month is $1,190.00 and mine is more than that monthly. Well, may never see another raise in this job but at least somewhere they are thinking about the cost of living raise.

You paid for it - BTDT

...with all the money you paid in SS taxes over the years, you paid for your raise, they are not "giving" you anything. That doesn't keep up with the cost of living and very few people can live on #1190 per month.

OP- I am just kind of comparing SS with the - MT business now and I bring in more

than the average. With MTing we have no raises for most, much less for the cost of living. I think most here would be delighted to get even $1,000 more per month.

I don't get that much SS. My gosh, this is awful. I think we who don't get that much after paying in all these years and not being paid like a man is should get more than $20.

I still work as an IC and pay all of my SS and Medicare right now. My monthly amount has not gone up and I still earn money each year and have since 2001 when I first started as an IC. I worked before that as well.

Yes. I'm happy for the COLA increase. sm - Part-timerMT

I will be getting almost $22 a month more with COLA increase. Started collecting at age 62 and now work part-time. But, I do have other income. Every little bit helps these days, even though it is nowhere near the actual real cost of living these days.

Since I still work, I'm still contributing.

OP-figured mine and I will be getting - little over $35.00 more a month

That covers my fill-ins and color change for my toenails.

This is wonderful except every single raise, they raise your rent or health insurance or something.

I wish that Congress would tell them to stop stealing our measley little increase.

My mother went through this all her life. She has been gone since 2002.

Rent, health insurance, nothing that relates - to me because

will have my house paid off in 5 years, 15 instead of the normal 30 and my health insurance is what hubby and I both get as freebie with his job, union. We all loved raises when we worked out, well sorta consider this about the same now even if I paid in and still am.

I guess this hurts me that you would brag about your situation as if some of us didn't plan things well.

I live alone so I am my sole support. I don't own a home. I have to rent.

It gets sickening when Comcast, insurance, or rent gets raised simply because some people think they can gouge seniors.

I am happy for you, but you are fortunate for this. What happens if one of you dies. The other won't be getting two SS payments. You'd be surprised how much it costs to maintain a home. Maybe you will become ill or get a disability, i.e. a fall that makes it so that you end up in a nursing facility.

Anyway, this is really not a nice post because it is like you are bragging about your situation, which you should be so grateful for, but not all of us can enjoy.

I would be happy to have a pet, but they always charge rent for them, nonrefundable pet fee for having them in the first place. You see some of us don't get to have company even.

Lots in my housing complex are having to do without more and more with each rent raise and each time Comcast raises their fees.

Enjoy what you have. It could all be taken away some day. I hope not for your sake though and would not wish that on anyone else.

Just saying I dropped cable TV about 4 years ago and have not missed it. Have old fashioned antenna TV and watch some shows over the internet that I have to have for the job.

Right now there is only one SS, mine - Husband is not retired
[ In Reply To ..]
Where did you get we lived on 2 SS incomes? I did not say that. I really never planned in the past, too busy working 2 and more jobs at a time to plan much of anything. Since when stating facts does that make a person bragging? When we bought our home in 2004 my husband double paid on it for several years. I paid a lump sum down a few years later and husband told me to pay that on, I believe principle, interest- not sure which one he said but what happened is hardly any goes to interest anymore. I have had my own insurance in the past, car, life, health before our marriage. I kept my own insurance for several years after our marriage but he said why not be covered by his. One of his perks of his job. I state facts, sorry you feel it is bragging. I had thought about what if I should outlive him. I have a home with actually 4 bedrooms,3 full baths and a half, new home in the early 2000s. I could rent out some rooms perhaps. As far as if I had to go to a nursing home one day, then you just do what you have to do, no sense in worrying about the what ifs.

SS RAISE - MUZZY

Wonderful, $20 raise in SS. My drug plan is going up $14. Don't know yet how much Medicare premiums are going up this year. I fear we will all get a few $ less rather than a $20 increase after expenses are deducted.

Do not have Medicare and do not pay - out of pocket for their care

[ In Reply To ..]
When you get retirement age you do not have to get Medicare with the exception of part B. That is the part to cover any hospital admissions not covered by your own insurance company. If I had a cost say of 5,000 and my personal insurance only paid 4,500 then part B steps in and pays the other 500 left over. There is no cost to me for this and like I said, you have to have it even if not part A, C and D. So glad I don't have Medicare, never wanted it.

Small-bowel Versus Small Bowel
Jun 08, 2015

I've always just used "small bowel," but then noticed most put "small-bowel," I assume to differentiate it as being part of the intestine as opposed to a small, or little bowel.  Okay, that makes sense, so I stated hyphenating small-bowel.  However, I just got marked off by QA for putting in a hyphen!  No matter what you do or don't do, you're screwed!  I do believe they just look for ways to antagonize so you'll never feel appreciated.  ...

When Is It Appropriate To Ask For A Raise?
Nov 27, 2010

I am a newbie who has had a job for 3 months now. I really like the company I am working for, and I love the account I am on. Problem is, there is not very much work, the work I do get is not consistent, and I am not getting paid very much either. I have requested more work in the past and was told I would get some then didn't, then given another account for a few days and haven't had it since. I think I was just getting overflow that day. Regarding Asking For A Raise...
Jan 02, 2012

So I've been working for a fantastic transciption company for over a year now.  My turnaround times are always excellent (they acknowledge this to us in weekly emails), and I haven't had any complaints about my work.  I'm a certified MT with four years experience, and I'm thinking about asking for a raise.  They hired me at $0.08 per line.  What should I ask for?  And is it okay to ask after 15 months?  I know all they can say is no, but I'v ...

How Much Raise To Ask For?
Dec 02, 2012

After being with my company for a year, I would like to ask for a raise (haha). How much would you ask for and hopefully receive? 1/4 cent? 1/2 cent? A full cent? I think I do excellent work. I monitor the accounts even on the weekends and jump on when it's getting close to being out of turnaround, unasked. My supervisor does not have to worry about these accounts as I have proven time and again that I am "on it". Taking some stress away from her deems to be a legitimate reason ...

To The 35% Who Think They're Getting A 13% Raise.
Dec 18, 2014

Could it be that the "13% increase" equals the amount of the quarterly bonus you were receiving? That's what mine equals out to be. I'm in that 35% and I am not getting a raise when I figure in the weekly and quarterly bonuses I previously received. I am sure some are getting an increase, but I would bet it's more likely to be 5% or less. The extra keystrokes, shift+alt, multiple times for multiple jobs.  It all slows us down, and then you will complain about the backlog, and we are complaining about our dwindling paychecks.  Talk ...

Anyone Have Any Advice On How To Get A Raise
Jan 28, 2010

from MQ.  I haven't had a raise in 5 years, am a tier 3 and only make 0.775/line.  I get the worst of the worst and would like a raise.  I asked for one a few years ago but was denied because of too many QA marker submissions - and I don't think my submission rate has improved at all because of the garbage I get.  Any suggestions besides finding another job?  Thanks for any help. ...

Have Not Had A Raise In 5 Years.
Jul 25, 2011

I am tier III and I still am not at top pay. Today I asked my CCM for a raise and she said she will put in the paperwork. Why do I feel I still will be denied even though I have met all the requirements. More than likely I will be denied because they do not want any MT to make above minimum wage. Also I really feel bad for the MTs who had their pay cut. That is just not right. I notice when I ask why the pay cut the answer is always to level the playing field and to make it fair to the other MT ...

No Raise In 11 Years

I am an independent contractor with 30 plus years experience, and have worked for the same hospital for 11 years, still at the same rate as when I started.  At the time it was a good rate, now not so much--outside typing service does the overflow easy stuff , we IC's are left with the ESL's, static and more difficult reports.  Know things have changed dramatically in just 11 years.  Also know the onsite transcriptionists (employees)  get a 4% raise most years.  ...

So I'm farily new-ish to MM and MT in general. MM hired me as a complete newbie about 9 months ago, and I accepted the rates they gave me (0.04 VR and 0.05 TR) because I was desparate for a job. Based soley on my memory, the person who offered me the job stated that there would be a consideration for a raise after 90 days. Okay, fine, whatever, I just want a job. Well, 9 months later I am still making the same rate. I haven't brought up the issue because I like to fly under the radar. ...

No Chance Of A Raise
Oct 27, 2013

As an MT, there's no chance of getting a raise or promotion, and so there's little incentive or motivation, especially being paid pennies per line. Yet, they expect you to participate in continuing education, which takes additional time and perhaps even money. What a joke. They don't expect crew members at McDonald's to take extra time off work hours, and they get paid the same amount. No point in complaining, I know, but it's so ridiculous. ...

How To Raise Rates
