Softscript--don't expect a raise....EVER!!! - TickedMT

Posted: May 03, 2011

Over the 6 years I've been with them, have only gotten a half-penny/line raise once!  That was after the first year...never again since and my accuracy has been above the required 98%, usually 100%....GREEDY COMPANY!

Ehh... isn't this the norm across ALL companies?? - has ANYONE ever gotten a raise

Raise - Reality

Yes I have gotten raises before but that was before competition got fierce with offshore workers doing work cheaper. I actually got a raise from MQ before they were bought out.

Reality - Raise???????

Raise? With most companies like Nuance and MQ you get a pay cut. As far as smaller companies, they follow MQ and Nuance lead.

All companies are greedy and all companies are competing against each other for accounts so they drop the line rate or hire offshore workers.

Be happy you have a job but the worst is yet to come for American MTs.

They told me that what kept me from getting a raise was too many reports to QA. Every time I got within striking distance they would change my account. I would pore over reports to cut down on blanks which of course took more time. Then I figured it out. The account-changing was how they kept from giving me a raise, so now I proofread once and send to QA if necessary and actually make more money because I don't go over reports again and again. My account hasn't changed in over 2 years, so I know I was correct in my assumption.

That is - - So true

It is evident that once you start gaining momentum monetarily, they put you on another account to deliberately slow you down.

Snakes, rats, weasels and thieves - Nuance, MQ, etc

Once you (American MT)train the voice recognition they transfer the account offshore. Or if they see you are making more money on the account, it must be easy enough to do by offshore people. I did an account that was shared by India and American MTs. India had a national holiday and we were asked to provide coverage because of the Indian holiday. When I saw the easy work the Indian MTs did as compared to the garbage left behind ordinarily for American MTs I understood the game. There is no way for American MTs to make money doing MT work. Not when there are snakes, rats, weasels and thieves running MT companies with no regard for anything but their bottom line.

why would they slow you down when the less you make the less THEY make? - but, then, I do not work there.

[ In Reply To ..]
That's not so. They wouldn't make less because I'm making less. The accounts are covered by other MTs and the turn-around-times would not change.
Nuance, MQ, etc - Slowed down and switched

The less production an MT has means nothing to the companies. They don't have to pay the bonuses if an MT doesn't produce and they do have coverage - more than enough - so the companies aren't affected by MTs struggling through ESL dictators or unfamiliar accounts and formats.

SS did this to me also - slowed me down

[ In Reply To ..]
Not once, not twice, but THREE times they did this to me. And after that third time, I said enough is enough and I quit.

I think the reason they do this is so hopefully fewer MTs will qualify for the benefits.

Not only have I not gotten a raise in what 5 years now? I got a cut in my line rate-- after being told I was the fastest and best MT. Some gratitude!

I don't know where this got to be the management strategy - but doesn't it seem like, they all got together and decided, hey, you know what, why even BOTHER giving workers raises? Raises are a thing of the past. Outmoded like...well, I won't say, but think of all the things that are considered outmoded in today's business environment.

Yep, they love to give THEMSELVES raises, but not the workers. What's up with that? I mean seriously.

In 3 years I've gotten 2 raises, the last one in March. I know - me

raises are rare, but they do happen. I work for a small MTSO (about 55 MTs).

Sooo glad.... - rainbow

I am so glad to be working in-house after doing at home transcription for several years. I have a life and a great job. It is nice to not have to be married to my job and still get a decent pay check with benefits.

Is It Reasonable To Expect A Raise After 4 Years?
Sep 13, 2011

I have worked for the same service for over 4 years.  I am an IC MT.  I feel I deserve an increase.  I asked for one at the end of my first year and was told the economy was bad....blah, blah.  Ok, I understood that but now I feel I have earned an increase.  Yes, I realize that many feel an IC should just inform the service of their increase.  I know that would not fly with this service.  They could care less if you work for them or not.  Theyhave a "we wi ...

I Think We Can Expect To See A Lot More

very long reports coming in about 10 minutes before we are about to finish for the day, which will force us to either do, causing us to stay over, or opt out of, which will leave time which we then will have to make up at their approval.  There's always torture involved with just doing our job.  It's like industrial terrorism.   ...

MTSO's - Is This The Best I Can Expect?
Apr 05, 2011

After 20 years of hospital-based HIM transcription, they gave us away to Medquist.  I feel set up for failure by not getting consistent hospital accounts and never having a chance to learn a specific account.  Communication with management is - absent - unless they want something from you.  I also find the pay and line count methodology to be deplorable, to say the least.  I have VR experience, but find that Medquist just turns on literally EVERYTHING to VR, and most of it re ...

These Companies Just Expect TOO MUCH!
Aug 22, 2013

These MTSOs just expect way too much out of someone just APPLYING for a job these days that it has caused me to not even apply anymore.  I need work, but I suppose I don't need it enough to be willing to jump through all of the hoops that they require.  The MT testing site has been aggravating enough, to take so much time on a test, not even knowing if you will get a call back, even if you DO pass.  Lately, like the past 3 jobs I have looked into, their testing process was IN ...

In-house Job Prospect, What To Expect?
Sep 01, 2011

I just set up an interview for an in-house job.  Problem is, I've only worked from home, so I'm really not sure what to expect.  It is for a rural hospital district.  My experience is with medium to large multispecialty clinic accounts.  The HM manager said it was transcription, including radiology, as well as acting as assistant to her, which makes me think it might be more clerk work than transcription. I'm wondering if there are any questions I should ask m ...

How Much Raise To Ask For?
Dec 02, 2012

After being with my company for a year, I would like to ask for a raise (haha). How much would you ask for and hopefully receive? 1/4 cent? 1/2 cent? A full cent? I think I do excellent work. I monitor the accounts even on the weekends and jump on when it's getting close to being out of turnaround, unasked. My supervisor does not have to worry about these accounts as I have proven time and again that I am "on it". Taking some stress away from her deems to be a legitimate reason ...
