Failed the test for SGS?? - rukidding

So, I go through the grammar portion of the test, use a ton of reference materials when I needed to and I failed the test? Huh???!!! There wasn't even a place that told me what my score was! I have 10+ years in this field and can't see how I failed the test and it's just not sour grapes on my part.

This kind of shakes me to the core and makes me not want to apply anywhere else!

Anyone else have this happen?

Which portion of the test did you fail with your references? The grammar part? If so, I guess you need to brush up.

If it was the transcription portion, not sure what happens sometimes. I failed a transcription test once and the gosh darn transcription was easier than anything I've ever done in my life. I've heard this before.

FYI: How many years in the field has nothing to do with experience, unless you break it down. Let's say you've been doing just neurology clinic for 10 years, that doesn't help with cardiology clinic. If you've done multiple specialties in just clinic, that doesn't go far with multi speciality hospital dictation. If you've done a lot of hospital dictation but no surgeries, you don't have surgery experience. The list goes on...

It doesn't tell you where you messed up. I took the same exact test with another company shortly after and passed it. I guess I'm really curious how I could fail the test with one company yet pass it with flying colors for another?

Thank you for your advice, but really the tests are pretty easy and I'm pretty sure whatever you said really wasn't very helpful, but sort of backhanded advice.

I was just trying to get a picture of where the problem might be. Nothing backhanded.

Most places, if you don't pass the grammar part, you don't get to do the transcription part, so that was part of my question. If it was all lumped in, they should have at least told you which section you need to work on (grammar or transcription).

I am re-iterating what I said and what another poster said. Ten years "experience" is only as good as what type of experience. You aren't wanting to answer that part of the question, so it's hard to be helpful.

Honestly, if you have acute care (which would include ESL's) plus surgeries in all the specialities and have received good quality reviews in your 10 years, there is no reason you should have failed that test, so I would guess it's a test glitch. I'm saying this, because it happened to me and others I know.

I think I was a little hasty and didn't read your original reply closely enough and for that I apologize.

Rukidding - Another test taker

I read posts from people who have issues with the test sites all the time. I've been successful at passing many of the tests, but I think different companies have different pass/fail rates. For instance, 95% might be passing at one company, 100% might be passing at another. I've never tested with SGS so I'm not familiar with their testing process. I have 35 years in this field in all specialty areas, so 10 years does not seem like much to me. Some people seem to equate years as an MT with skill, and seem insulted because they have X number of years of experience and don't pass a test. I'm not saying it is you, but I know many MTs with years and years of experience who do crap work; I QA the work of others now and I've seen it all. Where has your work experience been? (acute care, clinic, doctor's office, number of specialties). I'm sorry you had a bad testing experience, but don't give up. By the way, there never is a place that shows you what your score was, the tests are graded after the fact. I think some of the tests are graded by computer, so that may have come into play on why you didn't pass. Sometimes the recruiters will share test scores afterwards, but not always. If you think there was a problem in your situation, you could contact SGS and speak with them, perhaps they would permit you to repeat the test or answer your questions in detail.

If it is one of the fill in the blank type questions, it counts the answer as wrong for the above reasons. The testing site has some serious quirks.

If a word is supposed to be capped, of course you should do it, but some of those fill in the blanks are in the middle of a sentence.

I'm not QA by the way, but have filled in blanks helping others on many occasions.

I think it is a computer glitch that counts it wrong, humans only correct transcription test. NM - anon

So, I failed another "audit". I have to bounce back and forth between at least 10 accounts, therefore 10 different client profiles AND have to keep up with the ever changing QA preference of the day! i'm just curious. most of the time i pass my audits with a 99.7. but there have been a few times i have gotten emails telling me my score was below 99.6 and showing me the error of my ways. but i have never seen the word FAIL nor has it even been a big deal, i just get the email letting me know and thats that. does something different happen to some of you or is this what you are calling 'failing an audit' ? because i've never found it to ...

Yep, that's my 4th within a week. Yep, just as I noted a couple weeks ago, 2 "punctuation" errors and you fail. One spelling error that I have no idea how that could make it through spell check. And a full point for not cc'ing a dictating physician who said to send him a copy - because the CP did not say not to??????? I thought it was policy not to cc the dictator even if they requested such. I cannot even remember any client profile stating not to send a cc to the dictating physi ...
