Is anyone here an RHIT? Wondering how difficult the test is compared to CCS test - nm

The exams cover different material. The RHIT is an entry-level credential in all topics it covers, only a part of which is coding. The CCS is a mastery-level credential in coding itself. The pass rate for both is very low.

One main difference is that you can only qualify to take the RHIT by completing an AHIMA-accredited college health information technology program for an associate degree. The coding material in those programs is exactly the same as their certificate programs in coding.

They tend to skimp on coding, so an RHIT needs to find something that doesn't require a CCS. My friends with RHIT tell me that they frankly just didn't get enough coding to get a job doing it. What can they do? The ones I know are doing medical transcription.

I am a RHIT and I started out as an outpatient coder at a clinic. I then went on to be a health data integrity specialist, and now I am an HIM manager. So, your post isn't entirely correct. RHIT leads to many opportunities. Also, according to AHIMA, from 2009-2011 the pass rate for RHIT exam is 71.3%, while pass rate for CCS is 47.8%. The RHIT leads to more jobs other than coding, while CCS is mostly just for coding.

I have looked online a bit and the applications usually say something about submitting 2 pay stubs. Since I am an IC, I do not get a pay stub, and a couple of articles I have read said it is more difficult to get a loan when you are an independent contractor, particularly if your credit score is not outstanding.
