Anyone Else Experience This Recently? - Is It Me?

Posted: Aug 31, 2012

For the past month, I've applied for an MT position with almost every MTSO who posts a job.  I've tested with all of them, and I don't get a call back.

This is a new thing for me.  I've been in the industry over 20 years, have done every specialty plus QA.

In the past when I've looked for a job I've found one in only one day.  What's up?

is it me - mymind

Im in the same boat you are in, have over 20 years experience, applied to so many, testing, Ive about had it. Had some call backs but they dont want to be flexible on the hours. Hmmmm, wonder if alot of years of experience is not a good thing?

Or maybe insisting on no work schedule is not a good thing. - Ya think?

No I wasnt saying NO work scheduled, just a little more lee way. Maybe its because according to the IRS, you cant do this if you hire a IC!

I dont think + years experience has anything to do w/ it. Pay is - same newbie or oldie. nm

I haven't had any offers at all - sm

And I haven't requested any specific hours, pay, part-time or full-time. I'm willing to take what I can get at this point. I'm a great MT with good references. This is the first time I've not been able to find anything in this industry. I'm puzzled about it.
I think industry is shifting, Those who can adapt will come out at - the end, those that cant will be gone. nm

What more is there left to "adapt" to? Less than 3cpl? - Working 24/7 as work dribbles in?
[ In Reply To ..]
Adjust to doing without healthcare? Doing without basic needs, like housing or food?

I think the American business world needs to adapt to an older workforce that still wants, and NEEDS, to work.

I've had several interviews and am considering a couple of offers, I am on a waiting list at one company. I'm in my late 50s and have never fudged on my age or dates of employment as some people have been advisd to do, and I have a ton of experience. My suggestion would be to follow through with the places that didn't get back to you and let them know you still need a job, revamp your resume if you haven't done that in a while. Apply everywhre, not just to the companies who post on this job board. It's a lot of work to find anything but unfortunately the days of waiting for them to seek us out are over. I was pretty panicky when I found out I was going to be laid off, now not so much so. Hopefully after Labor Day there will be more openings. Good luck and hang in there.
i just got an unsolicited email - from Nuance saying

I should sign on with them. Would probably be just another side of the garbage dump for me, as I already work for the other place, but you might check them out. Good luck.
I received it also - mttoolong

Said I had applied in the past with them (have never applied there) and I should consider coming to work for them now. No thank you, I have decided not to work for any of the big companies anymore, pay is not good, benefits are useless, sticking with my nice small company.

Nuance was one of the places I applied and tested. I didn't have a good feeling about them (based on the comments here and my basic instinct), they are a last resort. Yesterday, I got one of those e-mails too. I'm sure you can draw your own conclusions if we all got one, something's wrong with that picture. I'm holding out in hopes that one of the smaller places I applied to will find a spot for me. I also interviewed for a non-MT clerical job and am waiting to hear on that. There's so much competition these days, it's scary. Good luck to everyone.

Same thing is happening to me, only I'm applying - at every inhouse job. (sm)

"Back in the day", I got every single job I ever applied for. Now, mostly I don't get callbacks. When I do get an interview, no matter how well I thought it went, they always choose someone else. Obviously, whatever it is they DO want, it's not a 35-year MT veteran.

I signed up to substitute teach - - sm

At one of the local school districts here. I live in a major city and there are lots and lots of districts nearby. If I can work a couple of days a week subbing that would help.

I do work part-time for the big service - - sm

I stripped all my education off my resume and instead of putting my 32 years of experience I put 10. I took off all MT managerial experience and the fact that I owned an MTSO for a decade. Let's see if that helps. I'll let you know.

I have. I do not have 20 years of exp, but very close (18) - sm

and I wonder why some cannot even give me the courtesy of letting me know why I was not chosen when I asked.

Just a thought, but - MtMountain

During my unemployment orientation, I have learned many new things (I supposed because of being in MT some 20 years and not out in the 'real world') - Did you know many online applications are timed, even the actual applications not only tests? They are then automatically declined if you take more than the time allowed. Probably just complete them as quickly as you can, especially tests even if they say they are not timed.

This includes online apps for most any kind of job, probably esp our industry.

We are too old for one thing and secondly we - live in the wrong country.

I think they are doing everything possible to get RID of the rest of the U.S. MTs. I hope I am wrong.

Several Of Us Had Interviews Today Or Recently...How Did You Do? Here's My Experience...
May 30, 2013

I had an overall positive experience; however, I wish I'd said a couple things more smoothly and thought of a couple more questions to ask (I did ask a few).  Still, for my first interview in years, I think it went well, and I sold myself pretty strongly, too.  I thought I'd share the main questions that came up and how I attempted to handle them:  Questions I got were (these aren't in order): Why do you think you'll be a fit?  (I said I was "uni ...

Is InScribe LLC, Kentucky Changing; Anyone Recently Apply Or Been Hired Who Has Years Of Experience;
May 11, 2011

Okay, I know InScribe LLC (Kentucky) has been on the Boards multiple times (at least monthly, if not weekly, it seems), but I just noticed they have a “Premium” ad at the top of the Job Seeker’s Board.  I guess these “Featured Listings” are not free, as the other listings are.  If I remember correctly, most of the posts on the Boards have been by Newbies, because InScribe evidently is one of the few MTSOs that hire new graduates.  However, it appear ...

NJA Recently?
Apr 11, 2014

Just wondering how the NJA problem is since 60 of us have moved on.  We've had 2 new ILP accounts to QA (which are horrible) and 1 group hospitals that have come back from ILP land, but only recieved a small handful of MTs to compensate.  My BOB has been swamped for the past week with late jobs every night.  My TSM says that her manager said that there isn't anybody who can help out.  I was just wondering if he/she is just too lazy to actually look.  I know the ...

To Those Who Have Recently Been Bought By MQ And Still
Dec 07, 2011

working on your accounts from your bought-out company, are you consistently running out of work? We were told things would not change for a while but I'm running out of work all the time.  I tried to apply for SUI this morning online but with this particular situation, I could not answer some questions to complete application so  I have to go down there, which I am getting ready to do.  I don't want to quit but this is getting extremely frustrating punching in and n ...

Patient First Recently
Nov 19, 2013

Hi. I was contacted recently by PF, tested again in person, set up for training (which was later rescheduled but is apparently still on), and told I have the job, but so far I have been utterly unable to get anything like an actual offer letter or anything STATING the terms of employment, like pay, PTO, basic benefit info, etc. (and I have asked and asked). Is this normal for them or a recent development? Everything they have TOLD me in person and on the phone has been just what the PF employees ...

Recently Started On ChartNet
Sep 26, 2010

I have recently started on ChartNet.  I read reviews, which are mostly positive, and my question is why? I find it cumbersome with all the headings you have to make with the control/shift keys and entering, starting new headers, etc.  Not very fluid at all (for me anyway).  Does anyone have advice/tips on how to make this more user-friendly?  Plus I lose reports and have no idea where they go or how to get them back, so I am losing line count as well.  I was happy to read all those positive ...

Who Has Recently Been Hired By Nuance?
Mar 26, 2012

Recently Took The Test For Accentus
Jul 11, 2012

Hi all - I recently took the test for Accentus, which was all editing and no straight transcription and which I didn't know would happen.  Anyway, I was not offered a job.  I thought I did pretty good on the test considering I had no foot pedal and no editing function keys but guess not.  Does anybody pass that test?  They couldn't tell me what was wrong, almost tempted to call them.  Also, need other ideas on where to apply.  Any help is appreciated.  I've got 30+ years ex ...

I Learned A Lesson Recently....
Aug 23, 2013

I'm one of the first people to tell someone else to be careful of the bridges you burn when leaving one company for another.  It's advice that I have tried hard to live by and was working out fairly well until just recently. I have another job with another company now and loving it.  Leaving Nuance and finding out that there still are companies out there that give a hoot has made me feel good. Anyway....I didn't actually burn any bridges with my past employers but I wa ...
