The doc I work for gave me his 2011 Physicians Desk Reference. Is that something that would be good refereance material for an MT???
before the internet I used it daily - not so much now, but

It did elevate my screen just enought that my neck did not get sore anymore.

I use my Webster's Dictionary for exactly the same thing! :)
I VERY rarely use my drug books or my Stedman's books, thanks to the internet.
Not useful for MT - anon

For medical transcription and/or editing, it isn't especially useful. There are specialty word books that are way less cumbersome, and better yet, the internet (drugs.com, etc).
Apparently this doctor thinks that the new year coming up is 2012. He has dictated in two separate reports that these patients have procedures scheduled for January 2012 and they are in for their preoperative evaluation now. Either that or these patients are getting their preoperative evaluation more than a year in advance. I wish doctors/dictators could be reprimaned for their mistakes. ...
Dear all,
I'm pleased to announce that the 2011 MT Survey is now live. If you remember the 2007 MT Survey, this is a continuation of that (with some changes). In the previous survey, we received 3800 responses, which culminated in the report MTs on the Radar (you can find it at http://ehealthrecords.wordpress.com/publications/). We are hoping for another successful survey. So if you are interested in completing the survey, you can go to http://www.medicaltranscriptio ...
I'm just curious what everyone thinks. If you had asked last year, I would never have guessed MDI-MD or DTS would sell to Transcend, Spheris would go bankrupt and be bought by MQ or Transcend and Zylomed would both sell to a Canadian company. Oh, I forgot OSI being bought by Nuance.
Who's left? Keystrokes? Webmedx? Precyse? Softscript? Futurenet?
Does anyone know who the biggest services are now?
Here's what I know:

I never thought I would see this. How many companies are going to be here in a year? I know that MQ has bought at least 3 this year, Nuance has bought at least 4, Transcend has bought at least 4, Accentus bought 2 and Keystrokes bought 3 or 4. Any I'm missing? Are they all going to buy all the smaller companies or will they start merging with each other. What's next? Inquiring minds want to know! ...
I'm assuming the software vendors talk the clients into how much they'll save by paying editors to fix this crap. There is no way someone would buy into this software if they knew what it really looked like in draft form...omg. It would not surprise me if the software vendor slipped a few Benjamins under the table to a willing doc at the facility and had him "train" the software before the presentation to the client. The doc goes in, reads from a script, and near perf ...
I have misplaced my 2011 payroll schedule. Can somebody tell me if our December pay period ended on 12/28/2010? For some reason, that sticks in my mind. Thanks :) ...
It's very simple and I am very serious:
1. If you are unhappy with how the MT career is changing, unhappy with the new pay (it won't go back up, folks, only down further), unhappy with changes in technolog, etc.: Do something THIS YEAR to get out of MT work completely. Don't feel you can venture too far from it? Do something like coding/billing. Want to stay in the medical world? How about LPN or RN? Dental Hygienist? HR speci ...
Poor Mr. Davenport only earned a little over 3 million. So sad.
I guess my giving up eating was worth it.

I haven't visited MT Stars in quite a while, but I noticed tonight some postings asking whether $10 or $11 per hour for editing VR transcription is reasonable. NO! IT IS NOT REASONABLE! Any seasoned, experienced medical transcriptionist who lowers themselves to edit for half of what they should be making as MTs is insane. We are destroying our own profession by not standing up for ourselves, our expertise, our experience, our professionalism. Not me. I'll ...
So many of us have been "gobbled" up by Nuance in the last few years. So many of us are transcriptionists with specialized, honed skills, and those skills are valuable. Do not be deceived by a company who devalues your worth and causes self-doubt and continues to tout itself as the leader in the industry. I believe there are many facilities, doctors, clinics, etc, who do not want their work run through a computer to be deciphered. It may be time-consuming and seem like a fruitful task, but if yo ...
Hi all,
I recently left Andrews School, I wasn't able to succeed in the course.
I have the books and materials still from the course. What's the best way to go about selling it? Should I use ebay? Or would it be better to find a bookstore locally that buys them? How would I go about finding that?
Any help is appreciated thanks,

IF they have any contracts, we will be due the new federal minimum wage of 10.10 per hour when that goes into effect.
Sadly, I think it is more likely that Nuance will shuck those contracts, if they have them, to avoid this.
Anyone know anything about Nuance and VA contracts?

I have just used the Saunders Pharm Books for years and not the CD. I'd love some feedback if you have used the CD and how you like it or even what is your preference regarding drug books. Thanks! ...

In this document, they do point out there are valid reasons for blanks. So... if MQ is going to adopt this, we should no longer be punished for valid blanks. They also include standards for dictators and recognize that lack of dictator compliance with these standards is a cause for blanks. Plus, IMO, ...
I was trained as a Medical Transcriptionist at a two-year college from 1990 to 1992. I worked at a hospital for a couple of years doing radiology, non-invasive cardiology, and neurology transcription, then I got married and moved. Soon thereafter, I started work at a mental health clinic as a Medical Transcriptionist with 12 other transcriptionists. This was in late 1993 and I am still there as of right now. The 12 transcriptionists have either left or been laid off over ...
New job figures out today: Health care continued to add jobs in December (+23,000); employment in hospitals increased by 10,000. Over the year, health care employment has risen by 315,000.
Any increase in health care employment is good for MTs. ...
I would like to buy a copy of this book if anyone could sell me one for a good price? I can pay through your paypal account. I have seen some on Amazon but they are expensive and I am hoping to find a better deal. I don't care what kind of condition it is in, written in, whatever. Thanks :)

I am one of 20 acute care hospital transcriptionists who have just lost our jobs to Nuance. Boy did they do a sales job on our hospital. Our hospital refused to give us severance pay using the excuse that they were giving us as "a gift" the opportunity to work with Nuance and that in itself canceled out the severance pay. Hah! Most of us have been working for this hospital for 20+ years. We lost it all -- job, health ...
please post how much you got paid per line. I think that really is why you all were let go because you made too much per line. We can narrow it down to that if you would all post how much you made. Thanks ...
