What's the deal with Focus? I have applied twice and still cannot - Oldie But Goodie

even get a response. I have had almost 20 years of MT experience and I can only assume, based on what I read on here, that they don't want me because I am too experienced and they only want newbies who they can pay 6 or 7 cpl. Has anyone else had this experience with them?

Your experience has nothing to do with their pay scale. With most pay scales actually.

Their pay is relatively low. You're an IC status. You have to submit a schedule of when you will work. You have to sign a contract committing to a particular number of lines and if you don't meet the lines, there is a financial penalty (so it's sort of true IC status I suppose).

They use eScription and DocuScribe. Most of the work is VR.

I had plenty of work available when I was there, just frustrating to not make any money for doing it.

that I have applied to don't even bother to respond at all. Not even with a form letter type email. I have many years of experience, too, and definitely know that I would be qualified for a position. I am not sure what to make of all of this, but it is completely frustrating. I think it makes the pains in my hand hurt even more.

I, too, got an e mail from a recruiter and went ahead and went through the testing. I did talk to a recruiter and apparently they are waiting for a shift to open on a specific account that fits my skill set before offering a job.

Focus only hires employees, as far as I know. They are very up front about their rates. They pay 8 cpl for typing and 4 cpl for VR and have a 2 cpl increase for anyone working the overnight shift. The recruiter told me it's about a 50/50 mix of typing and VR, but that can always vary by account. They do have a good benefit program, though, so if the account that one is assigned to is halfway decent you could make a relatively good wage after learning the platform.

It was also my understanding that Focus only hired employees. They were up front with me about the line rates before they had me test. I did the testing but I would have needed to purchase a new computer as I don't want to load their software on the computer I have for my personal use. I still have a job but if/when I do need to find MT work I may try them again.

I don't know when you worked for them, but they hire employee status now. The pay is average now, 8 cpl for straight/4 cpl for VR. They have benefits as well. They are using Escription and Dictaphone now.

Wondering if anyone has applied recently to Focus. A couple of months ago I had tested and went through that whole process successfully when the recruiter sent me an email with the minimum computer requirements; operating system 32 bit, XP or VISTA, 1 GB RAM, 1 GHZ processor, etc. It was the 32-bit system that was the killer (mine was larger). Okay, guess I will show how dumb I am. I am an MT in a in-house office for a urologist. he dictates, I listen and transcribe. i get on here and read everyone fussing about VR. I get that VR is voice recognition...but what is your job? If you are an MT, you have VR, I realize it gets it wrong sometimes but what do you do? A little over a month ago my old PC finally crashed after 10 good years. I replaced it and had to put antivirus on it (of course). I ended up taking my son to the ER and can't afford insurance, so I ended up paying out of pocket for his antibiotics. A couple of days ago I took my mom to the ER because of sudden back pain. We live in a town of ~20,000 and have a 100-bed hospital with a fully staffed ER. We were the ONLY ones in the waiting room. It took 1-1/2 hours to be seen by a triage nurse, 1 hour to be escorted to an ER room, 1 hour to be seen by a nurse (never seen by an MD), and 2 hours for a different nurse to wander distractedly into the room with discharge/followup instructions. Urinalysis has been obtained today suggesting 50 to 100 WBCs, RBCs, many bacteria, with a WBC of 6.9, hemoglobin 14.3, positive nitrites and moderate leukoesterase in his urine. First, I cannot find leukoesterase in any dictionary and believe he must mean leukocyte esterase. Can I change it? Maybe this is just my OCD tendencies speaking, but it really irritates me how the blue bar and the green bar do not line up. Anybody else get annoyed at docs who put every job they dictate in as a priority? I mean, everything they dictate, from a 2-month-old death summary to a 3-week-old T&A. I really hate the ones that are so old that the billing numbers have been erased from system. I'm guessing they were threatened with their license being pulled to get their work caught up. That's more important than H&Ps that need to be transferred with a dying patient right?? ...
