Transcend versus Nuance - unsure

I am thinking about both Nuance and Transcend. Does anyone like working for Nuance? Does anyone have any advice? Left MQ - looking for something better.

I hope I don't get slammed for my opinion on here. I've been with Nuance for over 3 years. You won't become a millionaire, but it has been okay for me. My team lead is fantastic to work for, they are very flexible with appts, etc., and their insurance for 1 person is okay. That being said, insurance for a family is outrageous, the deductible on any policy is very high ($2500), and they pay the middle of the road 8 cpl for transcribing and 4 cpl for editing. There is a lot of speech rec and ESLs. I know nothing about Transcend, but am fairly happy with Nuance. As with any job now in MT, you might think about going with one for FT work and the other for PT work, just to cover yourself financially if one runs low on work. JMO.

Nuance, at least the Webmedx acquisition, will work you into the ground with no communication from your supervisor, no feedback from QA unless you do something outrageously horrendous, and the tech department will blame every glitch on something you did or not even address your complaint.

The trainers actually will spend a considerable amount of time extolling the benefits of PDF versus printed references and train you to find a term in a PDF document (ctrl+F, like in every single other program and app in the universe) like they invented the concept. On top of that, they only document about 1/3 of the features and steps needed to navigate the transcription platform. Add to that that half of those features may or may not work depending on the programmers whims, and most of the documented features can't be used on ANY of the accounts (centering, italics, underline, right justify, autonumber lists, etc) because it crashes the client computers.

I don't know anything about Transcend but at this point even Medquist is starting to look appealing.

Transcend is very good to work for IMO. Very flexable with your schedule and going rate on pay these days. Teamleads are very helpful.

I have worked for both and I would choose Nuance hands down anyday. I make more money at Nuance then I ever made anywhere. Transcend did not have an incentive program and Nuance does. I make above 8 and 4 as my base rate. My accounts are great, my supervisor is great and they are very flexible.

The insurance is crazy for a family but the benefits from Nuance are still less out of my paycheck than when I was with Transcend.

Overall I really like Nuance and plan on staying.

didnt work for them directly but their product is very good. The VR is excellent compared to transcend.

I have only been with Nuance a short time, but my supervisor and schedule are pretty flexible, and the work load is just right for me. They have a site you can go to check your QA throughout the day, and I use it constantly. I find it's usually updated with an hour. The pay rate could be higher--I make 8 cents for transcription and 4 cents for editing--but I am used to independent contractor rates of 13 to 14 cents. I don't know about the benefits, as I have coverage through my fiance's company.

Does anyone know or maybe even make an educated guess...how much a hospital might pay per line to have Nuance do their reports? We are guessing somewhere .12 to .15 upwards to .20/line. As I was working today I thought about speech versus transcription, and it occurred to me that I was transcribing a good deal in each speech report I "edited." Why is transcription done for a full report paid any differently than transcription done in a speech report? In other words, why don't I get paid my transcription line count for the characters I am transcribing in a speech report, particularly since a great deal of these speech reports require almost re-transcribing completely due to ...

to actually make a living. Before Nuance bought Transcend I almost always had PLENTY of work. For the last month or so, work has been very, very, very scarce on a once very busy account.
