Nuance QC versus QA - Curious

Posted: Aug 13, 2012

By reading some of the posts on here, it looks like QC position is lower than QA position and even possibly lower than a Team Lead position.  Could someone clarify this?

Also, does anyone know what hourly rate may be like for the QC position?

Thanks so much,

Transcender being assimilated.

QC versus QA - There Is A Difference

[ In Reply To ..]
Yes, QC is lower than QA, and QA is lower than TL ( or maybe kinda equal). QC is the level where blanks in reports gets sent. QC Specialists get paid by the line (or did while I was there) and do a full listen to fix blanks in reports. QA specialists are the folks who check after MTs and QCs for quality and score them accordingly. TLs are the ones who are over QCs and MTs. The line rate for QCs during my tenure was 8cpl. QAs were hourly pay - somewhere between $15 and $17 perhour. TLs I'm not sure of the pay. Hope this helps.

OMG! No wonder MTs are paid so little. - sm

When I worked in-house, the chain of command was MT, then mananger (no MT supv), then the CFO of the hospital. We were paid a fair rate because there weren't so many middlemen.

No wonder MT is being sent to India. That's the only way they can afford to pay the QC, QA, TL/supv, manager, then the CFO/CEO.

And this is supposed to SAVE money?! - T. J.

And with all these cooks stirring the broth, clinics and hospitals actually think that VR or sending work overseas is going to SAVE them money?!! Unbelievable.

Yep. You got it. As a QC you are nothing more - than a glorified MLS. Things probably

will not really start to change for Transcend QC until after the new year, but it's coming, you can bet on it.

Actually sounds like it will be changing by October 1st. - anon

Based on the conference call they sent to our email today they want the "reorganization" done by October 1st because then they are rolling out some sort of changes in the VR, though they did not go into any detail regarding those changes.

If QC wasn't beneath Team Lead before, they sure as heck will be now. Hopefully it makes a difference in the inconsistent and moronic changes, but I doubt it will.

Where did you get that QC was beneath TL? - Curious

The hand over to new management on the client level will be done by 10/1/12. The management changes within Nuance will be done by September 4. Did you not see the flow chart?

It is COM, then Transcription service manager-MLS who is over 50 MLS, next to that is Transcription Service Manager-QC who is over Transcription Lead and QC. Transcription Leads and QC are lateral to each other, not one over the other at all - they work together.

There is one place where it says that the Transcription lead with tutor the MLS and QC, but that is in the case of sharing information with each other for the benefit of quality and helping and mentoring the MLS.

Also, I never saw or heard in one place where there were going to be a rolling of changes in the VR. That may come in time, but Nuance owns eScription, so it is possible more or all of the accounts will go to that.

you are right, my bad. I think the wording of it before the flow chart mixed me up.

On one of the screens there was something about AVR and then Robin said something about technical changes, maybe something specifically about platforms (not worth it to me to listen again) changing, but they wanted to do this "reorganization" stuff first so as not to throw to much at us and the customer at one time. Probably just talking about switching Transcend platforms.

Anyway it was really just a lot of blah, blah, blah that is meaningless to the MT.

As to QC/QA I guess I was just wishful thinking. I truley DESPISE Nuance QA/QC, it is the worst of any company I have been with (and that includes my years with Transcend many moons ago -- I loved Transcend's QA).

MT Pay Versus What Nuance Charges Per Line For Hospital Reports
Jun 07, 2014

Does anyone know or maybe even make an educated guess...how much a hospital might pay per line to have Nuance do their reports?  We are guessing somewhere .12 to .15 upwards to .20/line.   Of course they are claiming that this will save them all sorts of money and we'd like to know if they are really going to save as much as they think they are.  Oh...and did I mention that Nuance said they wouldn't be sending anything to anyone who didn't speak English ou ...

Nuance: Speech Recognition Versus Transcription Line Counts
May 13, 2012

As I was working today I thought about speech versus transcription, and it occurred to me that I was transcribing a good deal in each speech report I "edited." Why is transcription done for a full report paid any differently than transcription done in a speech report? In other words, why don't I get paid my transcription line count for the characters I am transcribing in a speech report, particularly since a great deal of these speech reports require almost re-transcribing completely due to ...

End Point Versus Endpoint And Hand Grip Versus Handgrip

Two words that come up often for questioning.  These are strictly used in an orthopedic setting.  Stedman's and Dorland's list end point and hand grip HOWEVER the office transcription manager,  girl is asking for me to correct this to endpoint and handgrip. According to a poster below which has apparently already attended one of the payroll meetings (as the poster posted) for nuance they have decided to keep the incentive part of all of our pay going with an exception that now you have to have over the industry standard of 98% to get a production based incentive. In addition (if this poster is accurate) they have again cut the overall pay from 8 and 4 to 3 3/4 AND 7 1/2. This is nothing but a bunch of crapploa...an MT who is now getting ...

VR Versus SR
Feb 20, 2010

I am not familiar with VR and have never used it, but I understand that there is a difference between voice recognition (VR) and speech recognition (SR). I am told the difference is that with VR the program has to be trained because it goes by voice only, sort of like us getting used to different dictators when we start a new account.  SR is supposedly different in that it goes by speech alone, meaning I guess, just the actual words dictated and is not affected by voice differences. Does ...

ER Versus ED
