Help!!! Current employer - no work versus Transcend promising work. - decisions

Posted: Mar 07, 2011

Okay, Transcenders/Ex-Transcenders.  I have not done VRE before - just straight transcription.  If it were down to not enough work to pay the bills and taking an offer from Transcend....you would or wouldn't and why???  Please???!!!!!

Help!! - mouse

My current employer has very little work but I would not take a job with Transcend. I know too many of the players to want to get into that game. Am searching for something to augment our dwindling work where I am. I hope you find what you are looking for. Good luck from the Midwest!

Thank you, Mouse - decisions

I have heard good and bad, and had pretty much decided to keep looking, but reinforcement of that decision helps. I have already been working for a second MTSO PT evenings to supplement but now need to replace first shift or get out of the game completely. Good luck to you too!

I second that emotion - don't take a job with Transcend. - Been there, done that

For a mouse, you sure do have a big mouth - I think you protest too much - could it be your experience is not up to par. Oh well, best of luck to you mouse - so sad to see you protest so much.

Transcend promises a lot but has trouble keeping those promises. When I was there I did not have enough work and worked multiple accounts. It was not the same for everybody there, but why take the chance of you getting in that mess as well. Good Luck to you.

Transcend promising work will leave you in the same - situation.

They are hiring and promising constantly. The reason? They overhire to meet their ridiculous TAT. They do not care how many people are on an account. They only care that the TAT is met. I really believe that they feel keeping the MLS's hungry for work is a means to that end.

Transcend promising work - difference of opinion - No brainer

And where would this poor girl be if she doesn't try. No work versus promising work - pls people use some common sense.

To Help - Can't you see it's the same old bullies here that will bring you down. You can go to the poor house with them or be smart. You won't know until you try.

Where will she be??? - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
Hopefully hired with a company that will supply her work instead of waiting for work with Transcend as another few weeks go by and she has to start the application process all over again.

I am not in the poor house, nor am I a bully. I am relating my experience with Transcend that happened not once, but TWICE. I would hope that the OP would take the advice to stay away from Transcend to heart and focus her energies on finding a job that WILL offer her work.

Promising work means absolutely nothing when the ones promising have a very well known history of being less than trustworthy. So no work versus promising work with Transcend is still NO work.
No work - No brainer

Says you - obviously not the expert on anyone's company. You don't think the odds are pretty good - all I see here is everyone out of work at their MTSOs -what differenc does it make to try.
It dpends on how far in the hole she is financially. - situation

Okay...since you decided to get downright rude and be the bully you claim I am, your moniker describes you to a T, and I guess I'll have to spell it out for you.

I may not be an "expert" on anyone's company, but I have worked for Transcend for a total of about 9 years in the two different times I worked for them with probably a total of 15 different accounts over the years. That's probably more than you've ever worked for Transcend. It doesn't make me an expert, but it does make me VERY qualified to state my experience with them.

Both times was the exact same situation on all accounts I worked with them. Transcend overhires consistently to meet their TAT agreements. There may be the occasions like the poster below when so many people have jumped ship at the same time (that should say something right there) or when a new account comes on board where in the beginning there are a lot of jobs out of TAT. But, after a while that all changes.

If the OP is already struggling, the difference it would make in just "trying" is that it could put her weeks, if not months, behind financially. If she gets on one of those accounts that are behind at this point, she might be able to keep her head above water for a short period of time, but it WILL NOT stay that way. If she gets put on an account that is't so far behind, she is likely to start experiencing a lot sooner what she is already dealing with...having no work and no money.

If she can get hired at a company that has work consistently (and yes, they ARE out there - but you wouldn't know because you're stuck at Transcend) then she doesn't have to worry about having to switch jobs again a month or two down the road. You're so defensive about your company that you're willing to give out bad advice and end up hurting her in the long run. Who's really the bully??

What part of that don't you get, no brainer??

I'm sitting here at Transcend for many, many days in a row - with red as far as the eye can see

[ In Reply To ..]
Meaning my account is constantly out of TAT because we don't have enough people working on it.

C'mon over and help me out! I'm drowning in a sea of red here!

"I am thankful so many people jumped ship" - That post says it all.

The fact that "so many people jumped ship" should raise a huuuuge red flag to job seekers.

I would stay away from Transcend - PAC

I was a victim of a merger last year. After we went to VR, work pools were opened and closed without notice for whatever reasons. I have found a new job and love it and have plenty of work. I know MTs who are still at Transcend and are hanging on by the skin of their teeth with work. They know it is a matter of time before work totally disappears and will either retire or look for another job. Some MTs have already been forced to part-time status due to lack of work.
plenty of work on the evening shift - mtmom
[ In Reply To ..]
I never run out of work on evening shift (2nd shift till about 11pm). I know there is absolutely no work during the daytime because they have too many people working days. It's all VR too, so be ready for making only edit rate. Lots of ESL as well.

Current 9 Year Transcend MLS. I Notice Nuance Hiring Ads
Sep 24, 2012

Is this common (the 1 yr exp only requirement).  Transcend has always required at least 3 years.  One has to wonder if the 1 year exp is an easy ploy to offer lower pay.  I worry about this since from what we can summize we will be moved to be in line with Nuance payscale at some point shortly.  Is anyone else make this 1 yr experience connection?  ...

MT Schools Promising Big Bucks
Feb 25, 2012

First, don't get me wrong; I'm not trying to be negative about this in any way and wish any new MT success. However, with this profession dying like it is and even very experienced MTs just trying to eke out even $10 an hour . . . It really aggravates me all of these MT schools and courses trying to suck innocent people in with their high tuition costs, etc. The fact is that nowadays it is akin to going and paying x amount of money to go work for $10 or less an hour. These schools/c ...

Just Curious, Which Kind Of TATs Are The MTSOs Promising
Feb 07, 2010

I remember in the late 90s, an op report at my company was 12 hours, a discharge summary was 48 hours.  I think H&Ps were even 8-12 hours; if there was one that was truly stat the hospital would call and it would be done sooner.  We were told the TATs and we watched out for them as a team (back when "team" really meant a respectful working relationship between the MTSO and the company).   ...

End Point Versus Endpoint And Hand Grip Versus Handgrip
Mar 13, 2012

Two words that come up often for questioning.  These are strictly used in an orthopedic setting.  Stedman's and Dorland's list end point and hand grip HOWEVER the office transcription manager,  girl is asking for me to correct this to endpoint and handgrip. She is only basing this on what an old medical transcription company she used to work for had her typing. I would rather base it on the  medical reference. The doctors are not even aware this has come up. She is ...

Tell The Potential 2nd Employer About The 1st?
Sep 20, 2011

Took me quite awhile to figure this out. You need 2 MT jobs because they all overhire to keep many more employees less busy to pay less. In my day, you kept your 2nd job quiet, but what is the way to do it now? Is it good or bad to be looking for a 2nd part-time job, do you tell them. Is there anyone who left the first job to go full time with the 2nd one or switched them? And is it better to go IC in the 2nd job because of flexibility? I sound pretty dumb! ...

Contacting Former Employer

This story has been popping up in the news lately, and I find it very distressing!  How low will a company stoop to find a way to practice hiring discrimination?  Imagine yourself interviewing in an office or on the phone, and they ask if you use Facebook, Twitter, etc., and request you to hand over your password!  Would you do it?  I sure hope not!  Most likely I would lose my cool and laugh in their faces, but still no way would I ever do that.  WHAT an invasion ...
