pay them minimum wage, which is now 11/hr and will to 15/hr within a few years. If they fired all CA MTs and gave them a (small) severance just to not have to pay them much, there is NO way in H$ll they'd be accepting paying someone "18-22/hr."

I bust my ARSE on fairly easy accounts, line counts high, but they are ALWAYS able to find some TINY, INSIGNIFICANT error to knock my pay right back down. I graduated this month and as soon as I find something in my new field, I AM OUT of this place.
