BK pros and cons - Been there

Posted: Oct 7th, 2016 - 10:36 am In Reply to: I had a bankruptcy just about 10 years ago. It is just - now coming off my credit report,

I've never filed but I dug myself out of debt, didn't have the money to file or pay and attorney. I got messed up with payday loans in addition to doing what you are doing, living off my credit cards. You may be able to get credit but your interest rates will be horrendous, it may affect tour ability to rent an apartment, and some employers won't hire someone with a bankruptcy on their record. Don't let anyone tell you that bankruptcy has no consequences because it does. I don't know how many credit cards you are working with but keep the one with the lowest interest and get rid of the rest, start paying down your debt, it will probably take years. See a credit counselor, you might be surprised. Something that people overlook, but personal bankruptcies affect all of us, your debt gets passed along to banks and credit unions and everyone has to pick up the tab.
