Volunteer at a school or library or something you might be interested in. You might be first in line if a job opens up.
Check your library or WorkSource (whatever your state calls it) for classes for the mature worker--how to tailor your resume and cover letter, how to apply, setting up a LinkedIn account, interviewing.
Make sure you get out in the real world and network. I recently joined a crafters group that meets twice a month and everyone there knows I am looking for a job. Quite a few in the group already work in craft stores and said they will let me know if something becomes available. This step is also helping me regain my socialization skills.
