Low Expectations - Meh Posted: Oct 8th, 2015 - 3:25 pm
Some MTs have mentioned low self-esteem working here. I happen to have low self-esteem all my life. I was crippled by uninvolved parents who took care of me with basic needs but never taught me anything, didn't ask about school, suggest I get a job, nothing. They think I had it easy because I never had to work. Then I got SSI. Got off SSI a few years ago and got into this. My mother, who never asked me before what my hopes and dreams are until AFTER I got a job asked me how much I make a month. I said, "Not much, about $1000." She didn't hear me and said "$500?" I said, "$1000." She said, "Not bad." Low expectations and invalidation. So I don't complain about this job giving me low self-esteem, I've had it my whole life. This job at least gives me self-discipline (which my parents didn't instill in me) so I can do bright things in the future (even though I'm now middle-aged). Just wanted to share (gripe) my story.
