Can you work from home on wireless? Every company I have spoken with has told me no.

No. Wireless connection isn't secure. - nm

Wireless through an aircard is very secure. - Some say even more so than cable.

I had wireless EVDO through Sprint and it was very secure as all transmissions were encrypted before being sent.

I don't know why companies won't consider this as my wireless internet was also much more reliable than my cable with less outages. If it did go out, which was rare, it was only for 5 minutes or so, unlike my cable which is going out at least once a week for an hour or more. Wish I could get wireless here as I would switch back in a heartbeat. Luckily my companies allow wireless aircards.

I have been staying at my mom's on the weekend while she is in the hospital and can not get into her network. She's elderly and has kept poor notes. I need to work while I'm up there but haven't been able to, and it looks like I'll be up there every weekend for the foreseeable future. My husband suggested an aircard but I haven't looked into it yet.

I live in a rural area and its either that or satellite. I have a modem I use for my home computer which doesn't have WiFi setup. It runs $60 a month for 5 G. I also have MiFi secure WiFi I can use for either laptop or desktop that runs $50 a month for 5 G. I can also use the modem for the laptop. I had to get 2 because I kept running over because I use it for a lot of other things besides work.
I used Sprint and aircard was free and it was $60 a month for unlimited data. - nm

YES, you set up a private secure passworded connection. All my - companies have allowed this. They do it too.

That's for working at home with a router. For being on the road - a wireless card, as the other poster stated, is exclusive and private as well.

They told me that the headache going wireless would be more hassle than the benefit. I have a laptop and I do have a wireless modem for that and the PS3's that we have, but as for the home tower and computer tower, they are plugged into the modem.

Thanks for all the info. Now that I know some companies will allow it, I can try harder to find one of them.

We have cable modem but a wireless network in our house - for all the computers (7)

Our wireless system is encrypted, passworded, and very secure, though I have my computer hard-wired into the computer so I don't have to compete for bandwidth with the other computers.

Wireless Headphones
Sep 04, 2011

Does anyone have or know of where to get wireless headphones.  My cat has chewed through the wires of 3 sets of headphones (at $18 each its getting expensive).  After the first 2 sets I have been putting them in a drawer when not in use, but the cord sticks out of the drawer attached to the computer and she found her way around the box while I was watching TV and now my third set is gone.  Within seconds she chews right through the cord.  So, since there are wireless keyboard ...

Wireless Mouse
Dec 01, 2011

I am just wondering if any of you are using a wireless mouse and how they are working for you?  I currently use a wired mouse and have for centuries.  Since I use mine more than most people, it seems, they do not last.  I am having difficulty finding wired mouse any longer due to being outdated.  I am hesitant in getting a wireless because wireless tends to slow me down with a second of lag.  Those seconds add up and I am just wondering how beneficial they are.  Any ...

Switched Over To Verizon Wireless.
Jul 12, 2012

I have had HughesNet satellite for the last 2 years.  This has been extremely slow and lots of down time with weather.  So I was told that Verizon would be much better.  Now that it is installed, I am disappointed to see how slow this is.  My download time is so bad, I doubt any company would hire me or maybe they would, but with all the waiting for downloading of files, I could never get a good line count.   Supposedly Verizon says they are putting up more po ...

Sprint "unlimited" High-speed Wireless Internet
Sep 10, 2010

FYI for all.  I have had an "unlimited" Sprint Internet plan for a number of years working at home without any problems.  Sprint has apparently decided to put a cap on the plan, of which I am shortly to exceed it without any prior notice.  I am told my only resort is to pay for the overage or cancel my services, which I just renewed contract on conveniently enough for Sprint.  I'm still working on my "issue" but thought I'd give others a headsup.  If you have S ...

I just did a report that outlined, in great detail, something that my dad went through several years ago.  He died last year and I guess with father's day coming up I am just missing him a lot.  I think that was the hardest report I have ever done!  I stopped in the middle of it and just lifted that patient up in prayer and asked that his family not have to go through what mine did.  I miss my dad!!!!
