Does Synernet allow wireless? - MT

Posted: Sep 15, 2014

I'm getting fiber optic installed this week and I believe they said it would be a wireless router. Anybody know what this is? I'm so dumb about technical stuff.

Their rickety old computers will not connect via wireless, at least sm - that is what the IT guy told me

Thanks, appreciate the answer. - MT

I called my ISP and they said it is not a wireless router, but just fiber optic cable. Wheew. I didn't think they allowed wireless. Not secure. I'll still have my old router, but hopefully faster.

wireless is a secure connection if you set it up that way. - No one can use it but you. NM

What they provide is called a Thin Client. This isn't an actual computer (no processor, no hard drive). It's used as sort of a portal to access the company's server, through which it derives typical computer functions. It has to be connected to the internet via a hard-wired Ethernet cord. I haven't any problems with it. I also use the Ethernet cord to connect to a wireless router so I can broadcast a signal throughout my house for my 2 wireless personal laptops. I can use all 3 devices simultaneously if I want to, and on occasion I'll keep my laptop on my desk while I work. The Thin Client technology means that you're live on their server, so they can observe you working if they want to, though I don't imagine anyone has the time for this type of surveillance. You do have access to Internet Explorer, Google, etc., through the server, so you can do the necessary research while you work. I think the company uses this technology for the added security it affords.

I find tech stuff confusing at best, but the Thin Client hasn't given me any problems; when I have delays, it's usually an ISP issue.

Wireless Headphones
Sep 04, 2011

Does anyone have or know of where to get wireless headphones.  My cat has chewed through the wires of 3 sets of headphones (at $18 each its getting expensive).  After the first 2 sets I have been putting them in a drawer when not in use, but the cord sticks out of the drawer attached to the computer and she found her way around the box while I was watching TV and now my third set is gone.  Within seconds she chews right through the cord.  So, since there are wireless keyboard ...

Wireless Mouse
Dec 01, 2011

I am just wondering if any of you are using a wireless mouse and how they are working for you?  I currently use a wired mouse and have for centuries.  Since I use mine more than most people, it seems, they do not last.  I am having difficulty finding wired mouse any longer due to being outdated.  I am hesitant in getting a wireless because wireless tends to slow me down with a second of lag.  Those seconds add up and I am just wondering how beneficial they are.  Any ...

I have a wireless router that I hooked up when I had my old computer.  I have since bought a new computer and trying to set up my router with it and get all the through the set up process, except at the end it tells me "Let support know you are setting up a router, were asked to manually input your internet account info, but your ISP did not accept that info" Now I did call tech support (Belkin) and I had a really hard time understanding them.  I ended up just hanging up.  She h ...

Switched Over To Verizon Wireless.
Jul 12, 2012

I have had HughesNet satellite for the last 2 years.  This has been extremely slow and lots of down time with weather.  So I was told that Verizon would be much better.  Now that it is installed, I am disappointed to see how slow this is.  My download time is so bad, I doubt any company would hire me or maybe they would, but with all the waiting for downloading of files, I could never get a good line count.   Supposedly Verizon says they are putting up more po ...

Sprint "unlimited" High-speed Wireless Internet
Sep 10, 2010

FYI for all.  I have had an "unlimited" Sprint Internet plan for a number of years working at home without any problems.  Sprint has apparently decided to put a cap on the plan, of which I am shortly to exceed it without any prior notice.  I am told my only resort is to pay for the overage or cancel my services, which I just renewed contract on conveniently enough for Sprint.  I'm still working on my "issue" but thought I'd give others a headsup.  If you have S ...

Synernet???

I have an interview with them coming up. They seem like they have a good reputation and the benefits look really good. One thing I am wondering about them is just how flexible are the schedules? For example, right now I am able to work a regular 2nd shift position with no problem (I currently work 2nd shift and prefer it to other shifts), but when school starts my kids will have sports and Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts and I have to take them to their meetings. The place I currently work at, they ...
