M*Modal and wireless - Girl4givn

Posted: Mar 24, 2012

Just out of curiosity, has anyone worked for M*Modal using wireless (I have Verizon) with THEIR equipment?  I also have a Verizon air card, but would LOVE to cancel that payment if I could get everything on wireless.

What do you mean by "wireless"? I have what is - called a "dry loop" connection..sm

and I have a wireless modem so anyone who comes to my house with a laptop can get on the internet. Is that what you mean?

I work for M*Modal.

I have never heard that term, dry loop, before. But, I think you're on the same kind of thing I am. I have such a hard time calling it a wireless modem because I'm old and modems used to be big!!! But yes, it's about cellphone size, sits on the desk independently of a computer, and kids and I can connect any of our devices to the internet via that device. But I was wondering about M*Modal's computer - if it will work with wireless. I never was able to get my hospital computer to work with it (VPN).

I use this to connect to my - sm

I tried using wireless with my spheris computer, using a USB wireless adapter, but it wouldn't allow it. Therefore I'm hooked by a very long cable. Lol

Call their 1-800 number, IT dept to be sure. - Also, if they offered you

equipment i.e. their computer then I highly recommend you take it. That way you dont have to worry about installing anything to your own or running into any problems with not having enough memory.

If you get their computer, it comes all set and ready to go with everything you need installed. All you have to do is plug it up and log in, every icon you will use will be on the desktop.

Another thing, you will probably only have 1 to 2 weeks of straight typing before your VR training. Once you have your VR training you will start to recieve work right away from voice recognition. Dont freak out because you will be shocked at first when you go to calculate your pay at the end of the day, as it will drop.

It takes time to get use to VR it took me a couple months before I saw the necessary speed needed to make a good paycheck, but lucky for me I had a lot of money in the bank from my PTO cash out from previous employer and I even borrowed a couple thousand from my retirement account for extra cushion.

And know that 4cpl is not the bottom line, you can get a raise contrary to what you will read on these boards. I got one.

Thanks! - Girl4givn

Thank you for your encouraging words. I'm struggling to find people who are happy with M-Modal just so I can resign myself to taking the plunge (not like I have too much of a choice - ha!). They did promise 2 months of straight typing at 10 cents a line and 6 cents per line after we go to VR which I'm already familiar with in DQS. So, fingers crossed.....what do I have to lose?

Most of the people on this board are unhappy - but dont let it discourage you - see msg

Learn from your own experience. Had I based my opinoin on everything I read here, I probably wouldn't be at M*Modal today.

Lucky for me I have a mind of my own and I am not easily swayed by others. Sounds like you are off to a good start with 10cpl a line for 2 months, and 6cpl in my opinion is not bad for VR, as most companies only pay 4 and I have heard of others paying less than that.

Dont get de-railed by what you read here.
Yes, if you are looking for happiness you wont - find it on this board.

I came to this board and another one years ago (probably 2001?) looking for advice when our company was bought by Medquist. OMG the horror stories. But then I realized most people who are happy with their jobs are probably happy with a lot of things and don't take the time to go online to praise it daily.

I decided because of industry changes to take 2 years off in the mid 2000s and am glad I did. It made me realize I prefer working from home and not being micromanaged (although stupid me went with a small MTSO and did end up being micromanaged for awhile LOL).

My opinion is part of the problem with industry is these "work from home" schools cycled out so many "typists" (when I went to school you interned and it was considered a profession) that they have watered down the industry and the companies know they can hire someone who has never been treated respectfully in a professional setting as a medical transcriptionist to work for less. Unfortunately, I fear those kinds of typists outnumber the professionals and I don't foresee that changing in the future.

Does anyone have or know of where to get wireless headphones.  My cat has chewed through the wires of 3 sets of headphones (at $18 each its getting expensive).  After the first 2 sets I have been putting them in a drawer when not in use, but the cord sticks out of the drawer attached to the computer and she found her way around the box while I was watching TV and now my third set is gone.  Within seconds she chews right through the cord.  So, since there are wireless keyboard ...

Wireless Mouse
Dec 01, 2011

I am just wondering if any of you are using a wireless mouse and how they are working for you?  I currently use a wired mouse and have for centuries.  Since I use mine more than most people, it seems, they do not last.  I am having difficulty finding wired mouse any longer due to being outdated.  I am hesitant in getting a wireless because wireless tends to slow me down with a second of lag.  Those seconds add up and I am just wondering how beneficial they are.  Any ...

I have had HughesNet satellite for the last 2 years.  This has been extremely slow and lots of down time with weather.  So I was told that Verizon would be much better.  Now that it is installed, I am disappointed to see how slow this is.  My download time is so bad, I doubt any company would hire me or maybe they would, but with all the waiting for downloading of files, I could never get a good line count.   Supposedly Verizon says they are putting up more po ...

I thought they were 2 different services.  Everyone is buying out everyone, so who knows.  All the small companies have been merged I guess.  I thought Nuance was out of New York and were the primary with VR.  Maybe one has to keep up with the changes and be a member and pay the dues and go to the meetings with AAMT and be a CMT to keep up with the changes, even though you still get 4 cents. ...

Sprint "unlimited" High-speed Wireless Internet

M*Modal VR
Sep 25, 2010

I have another question.  When one does a draft in VR, does MT get paid for all lines in the draft or would an MT get paid if it has to be edited.  I will be trying to learn this in the next few weeks and I am scared to death I will not catch on and then I might be without a job.   I have a feeling I might not get paid for the whole draft report.  Then again it may depend on the company.  Any opinions please.   Thanks  ...
