Republic Wireless - CuriousMT

Posted: Mar 23, 2014

I was looking into wireless service and came across a company called "Republic Wireless."  Does anyone use this?  If so, how do you like it?  Just curious.  Thanks!

My daughter started with them in college when they first came around, she had to be on a waiting list at the time and she loves them once she finally got it, never has connection problems and her bill is something like $20 a month, the only bad part was she had to buy their phone (they require that I think) and it was pretty expensive but they have a pretty good trade-in plan when you want to upgrade a phone later with them.

Does your daughter still use them? I am thinking about getting them, but sort of scared just in case it doesn't work, but what I have read, it mostly works off of WiFi and then cellular when WiFi is not available. Is this right?

Yes she does and yes that is how it works, I think it on the Sprint network but not 100% sure. We live in a rural area and she never has any trouble. I would get it but I cannot afford the phone up front. She has had it for probably 3 years or so now.

We live in a rural area too. We can get ATT, but only like 1 or 2 towers on my phone. I will have to look into it. Oh, I also emailed you. I hear they are going to be offering a cheaper phone in April. That might be an incentive of getting one for yourself!

Are you looking for wireless internet for work purposes - nn

Just curious, are you looking into a "cell phone type thing to use as a modem" for work? Your post was rather unclear, but that's what I was sort of figuring out. If you are, another alternative may be Clear wireless internet. Their service is not available everywhere, but it works rather well, and I believe that they just became "partnered" with Sprint, so use their towers, etc. It "lags" when downloading things such as movies, etc, but when I used my friend's connection for work, it seemed to be okay. Again, maybe another possibility to look into.

No, not for work - CuriousMT

No, I am not looking to get it to work with. I wanted it for personal. I currently have ATT and pay out the ying-yang! LOL! I just was looking for something that will work for calls and text while home (as I am on the internet for my job all day) and then possibly when I am out and about, the internet. I currently have an antique phone so don't have a smartphone or even internet on my cell phone :)

Wireless Headphones

Does anyone have or know of where to get wireless headphones.  My cat has chewed through the wires of 3 sets of headphones (at $18 each its getting expensive).  After the first 2 sets I have been putting them in a drawer when not in use, but the cord sticks out of the drawer attached to the computer and she found her way around the box while I was watching TV and now my third set is gone.  Within seconds she chews right through the cord.  So, since there are wireless keyboard ...

Wireless Mouse
Dec 01, 2011

I am just wondering if any of you are using a wireless mouse and how they are working for you?  I currently use a wired mouse and have for centuries.  Since I use mine more than most people, it seems, they do not last.  I am having difficulty finding wired mouse any longer due to being outdated.  I am hesitant in getting a wireless because wireless tends to slow me down with a second of lag.  Those seconds add up and I am just wondering how beneficial they are.  Any ...

I have had HughesNet satellite for the last 2 years.  This has been extremely slow and lots of down time with weather.  So I was told that Verizon would be much better.  Now that it is installed, I am disappointed to see how slow this is.  My download time is so bad, I doubt any company would hire me or maybe they would, but with all the waiting for downloading of files, I could never get a good line count.   Supposedly Verizon says they are putting up more po ...

Sprint "unlimited" High-speed Wireless Internet
Sep 10, 2010

FYI for all.  I have had an "unlimited" Sprint Internet plan for a number of years working at home without any problems.  Sprint has apparently decided to put a cap on the plan, of which I am shortly to exceed it without any prior notice.  I am told my only resort is to pay for the overage or cancel my services, which I just renewed contract on conveniently enough for Sprint.  I'm still working on my "issue" but thought I'd give others a headsup.  If you have S ...
