Do any at home MTs miss this... - snowedin

Posted: Feb 09, 2010

I totally miss getting a huge snowstorm (like today in my area, 10 to 14 inches) and being able to call in to work to say "I can't make it in today... the roads are horrible"

I am trying hard to concentrate on work today, but all I want to do is call in to work, go outside and build a huge snowman, then shovel a little, and come in and make a huge mug of hot chocolate and watch it snow.

LET IT SNOW!!!!

I live in Indiana, calling for 5-7 inches, nothing near as bad as NE. nm - eary bird

We have gotten maybe 3-4 inches so far, supposedly more to come. We already had 5 inches on the ground to start with.

I live in Bluffton, just south of Ft. Wayne. Where are you?

Not too far from you, it's starting to come down heavily again, sm - early bird

Tomorrow we are going to have high winds so this stuff is going to blow all over.

I'm between Fort Wayne and Warsaw.

I do miss being able to call in but at the same time, I'm thankful to be able to still make a dollar when the weather is bad. I'm originally from So. Cal and now living in the south so seeing snow outside my door is still new to me. I'd probably lose my job...

We're getting more snow than usual thanks to Nor'easters and I hate it. I'm glad I don't have to go out in it but have concern for other family members who have to drive a distance to get to work as they're just not able to "call in." They've got to get in to work however they can. We're due for another one tonight into tomorrow and I'm dreading it.

sorry, just trying to have fun with it, not trying to offend anyone - snowedin

I love the snow and enjoy all kinds of winter sports, snowboarding, skiing, snowmobiling, and of course sledding!

I do realize that people have to work, my husband is diesel mechanic and he has to fix semi trucks on the side of the freeway when they break down, in this awful weather. Today he will probably work 14 to 15 hours.

I was just trying to lighten the mood.

It's no fun sitting here watching a heavy snowfall knowing you have to work when you could be out playing in it with the pooch because you can't get out.

I live on a steep hill and have a very long driveway. It was always a good excuse but lately, our township does our road first, like 3-4 a.m. but the driveway doesn't get done that early.

Our last heavy snowfall was '96 when we got 3 feet in 2 days. I have a feeling today's is going to be one of those. I listened to 3 TV stations and they all have different totals, anywhere from 6-18" and the weather channel says 5-8" tonight and another 5-8" tomorrow. When all the weather stations are different, we usually get clobbered.

I think that is what they were called.  The person who assisted our sup.  Anyway, I really like my sup.  But I never hear back from her when I email, I make edits in Teamwork and it still hasn't been done.  I requested time off in Feb and it is still in request status.  I have no hours listed for when I am supposed to work. I miss having someone who sends out a backlog and responds to my emails within a day, sooner most of the time. I feel like I am swinging out o ...

I Miss MT!
Feb 15, 2014

I work full-time in a clerical position.  I don't really enjoy it but I make a decent living.  I thought I would love typing for a living so I took the MT training from one of the best schools (expensive and labor intensive, as you all know), and got a p/t weekend job working for a MTSO.  I quickly became jaded for the many reasons already discussed on this forum.  I wasn't even making a babysitter's wage.  I knew there was no way I could afford to quit my ...

Don't Miss Dep
Aug 22, 2014

I've never understood what dep was.  I started with this company 3 years ago (then Medquest), and was told to put dep after my ID number to access something which I never understood.  It always rejected my login under dep, and I was embarrassed at that time to contact Support, so I just never used it, whatever its purpose was.   So, now that we apparently can't access it, I don't miss it. ...

Miss The Old Days When There Were Bonuses!
Nov 27, 2013

Miss the old days when there were bonuses! 16 years ago old boss who had her own Transcription company hired someone to delivery Christmas tray with Santa in middle, surrounded by Christmas candy, with a bonus check for $50 on the tray. I Really Miss Straight Transcribing - Hate VR
Jan 28, 2011

I have my first job ever with VR and absolutely hate it; I hardly make any money at it; get tired of constantly changing he to she, adding commas where the machine left them out; I feel like my talent of being a fast typist is being wasted.  I might type 2-3 reports a night and of course they are always the shortest reports of the night! I am so glad I was in transcription at its heyday but those days are long gone as is my love and enthusiasm for this career that I have dedicated 38 years ...

Miss The Good Old Days Of Medical Transcription
Mar 27, 2014

I miss the lively atmosphere of a transcription room filled with other transcriptionists, with doctors strolling in and out, joking, grabbing from the tray of homemade goodies someone had brought in to share.  I miss the laughing and sharing of stories or the mutual griping about the doctors' dictations.  I miss the holiday pot luck dinners and decorations and bonuses.  I miss the formal dictating style that doctors used to go by.  I miss having a job that was in demand ...

At Home MTs -
Feb 09, 2012

What do your QA people actually do?  I have two jobs, as I've said before.  Both outsource pieces of their work and at both I wonder just what it is that the QA people do?  At both I really wonder how the MT even got their job at all but I really wonder what the QA people do! At the hospital, we send the op reports out, probably 60 a day.  They get done by a company owned by the former Q but they claim they're done in America.  Every day we come in to 50 of t ...

Anything Else To Do From Home?

Something We Workers-at-home Need To Consider...
Jan 21, 2010

when I started telecommuting full time.It finally penetrated my consciousness a couple of weeks ago that every year, when it came time to renew my auto insurance policy, I used to get a call from a local agent, and we'd go over the policy, making sure there were no changes. One of the questions was always how many miles did I drive to and from work each day, along with the current odometer reading, and the estimated number of miles driven each year.I haven't gotten one of those calls i ...

What I Don't Like About Working At Home Right
Mar 02, 2010

now is that I would really love to tell somebody off!! Yes, I know that may sound childish, but this company has put my stress level through the roof, my blood pressure through the roof, and their BS has me so pissed off, if I were in an office where they were I would find great satisfaction in letting them have it verbally, not in writing.  Yes, I would be fired on the spot, but it would be so worth it.  It's just not the same when they don't have to face someone in person.& ...

Working At Home
Mar 09, 2010

Everyone says "I would love to work from home".  Working from home has been having negative effects on me.  I've been doing this for 12 years.  I never used to have anxiety or depression.  Now, I do.  This job is so isolating.  I'm sick and tired of staying home in my PJs.  I try to get out of the house as much as possible, but little trips to the grocery store is not cutting it.  I get depressed staying home all the time.  I lack a social l ...
