The good old MT days ... what I miss most - Snow Bunny

Quality, Turnaround, and Price ... pick two!!!

what I miss the most - sm

Being treated as a human (not a machine), praise call from the boss, RAISES, having primary account!

Flexibility, good pay, local/regional offices...sm - oldtimer

24/7 QA help via phone, internet paid for, reference books supplied, real incentive pay/rewards.

The good old days for me was just 3 years - ago working for SM

MDI in Maryland. Great line rate, good primary account, left alone to do my work. Now, I am sick with worry every single day about having phone, electric turned off, feeding the animals, etc. My problem is the VR pay. Anyone who is honest and tracked this in any company would come to the conclusion that the hype about doubling productivity is absolutely not true. Knowing how greedy some in this country have become, I would never expect anyone in any authority to correct this scam on the MTs. I have come to accept the fact that integrity has no place at any MTSO, much less any corporation in this country.

What I miss most about the old days was not having - to worry about money every freaking minute

of every freaking day. Tallying up my bills for the month: Rent, utilities, car insurance, gasoline, and realizing the total is almost twice what I'm likely to make transcribing this month.

I miss most... - ah

paid holidays, paid vacation and medical insurance!!

What I miss most is being treated with respect. I miss being the phone calls, being the "go-to" person to make a new facility look good with a fast turnaround and professional looking reports. I miss not worrying of my invoice was going to get paid or my paycheck was going to bounce. And what I miss the most is the amount of pride I had in what I did, knowing I was an integral part of the patient care process.

Miss The Good Old Days Of Medical Transcription
Mar 27, 2014

I miss the lively atmosphere of a transcription room filled with other transcriptionists, with doctors strolling in and out, joking, grabbing from the tray of homemade goodies someone had brought in to share.  I miss the laughing and sharing of stories or the mutual griping about the doctors' dictations.  I miss the holiday pot luck dinners and decorations and bonuses.  I miss the formal dictating style that doctors used to go by.  I miss having a job that was in demand ...

Miss The Old Days When There Were Bonuses!
Nov 27, 2013

Miss the old days when there were bonuses! 16 years ago old boss who had her own Transcription company hired someone to delivery Christmas tray with Santa in middle, surrounded by Christmas candy, with a bonus check for $50 on the tray. Those days are LOOOONNNNNNG GONE. Let's put our Pollyanna glasses on for a minute and pretend our 37 million dollar CEO is going to give up one of his millions and divide it amongst us. Miracles happen, right? ...

Good Ol' Days
Oct 29, 2009

Remember the good old days, when we worked either in a transcription pool, the medical records department or at a doctor's office?  I was trying to figure out what a doctor was saying in a report and dreading leaving a QA marker for fear of "points"... I remember going to hunt down the doctors in the old days, sitting down to have conversations with them. They would help us fill in the blanks and mostly apologize for not speaking clearly (at least they did at the hospital where I ...

Good Old Days
Jun 17, 2010

I long for the days when you just typed the report and maybe had to watch for 1 or 2 things regarding the patient.  Now, well you know, change work type for this hospital, not for that hospital, use patient name, don't use patient name, check QA, don't check QA, if a doctor spells a name you have to look it up anyway (they have absolutely no responsibility for what comes out of their mouths--its our responsibility), follow BoB, follow client profile, and if they con ...

Oh For The Good Ole Days
Apr 30, 2015

I fondly remember when I started with this company (actually have gone thru too numerous to count buyouts).  I actually enjoyed coming to work and being rewarded with typing more than the required. Now almost every day, I dread coming to work.  I know that the majority of my work wiill have deplorable audio quality.  Investing in "good, quality" headphones and Boostaroo is/'was of absolutely no help whatsoever.  Quit wondering why they won't fix it and have resigne ...

Awww, The Good Ole Days
Feb 17, 2015

Remember when we had primaries and secondaries?  Accounts we knew the client profile.  NOT this constant changing from one hospital to another to another and having to look up the client profile each and every time.  Don't even get me started on the stupid question marks on the ADT/demographics.  Why must I enter this when the persion initially entering it is incompetent? I have had 2 days now of garbage.  ESL's who can't be bothered to slow down and ope ...

MT Week - Remember The Good Ol' Days?
May 25, 2013

I remember looking forward to MT Week with my old favorite employers YOG and Encompass.  I'd go to the mailbox and actually get little gifts from them. Imagine that! With YOG I actually got more than one!  I still have that letter opener that is the bomb! No sarcasm. I really liked that. Little things mean a lot. Much better than a lecture from the rich powers that be, or an "opportunity" to maybe, just maybe, win a prize after gushing about how great your job has b ...

Miss QTL
Jan 21, 2010

I think that is what they were called.  The person who assisted our sup.  Anyway, I really like my sup.  But I never hear back from her when I email, I make edits in Teamwork and it still hasn't been done.  I requested time off in Feb and it is still in request status.  I have no hours listed for when I am supposed to work. I miss having someone who sends out a backlog and responds to my emails within a day, sooner most of the time. I feel like I am swinging out o ...

I Miss MT!
Feb 15, 2014

I work full-time in a clerical position.  I don't really enjoy it but I make a decent living.  I thought I would love typing for a living so I took the MT training from one of the best schools (expensive and labor intensive, as you all know), and got a p/t weekend job working for a MTSO.  I quickly became jaded for the many reasons already discussed on this forum.  I wasn't even making a babysitter's wage.  I knew there was no way I could afford to quit my ...

Don't Miss Dep
Aug 22, 2014

I've never understood what dep was.  I started with this company 3 years ago (then Medquest), and was told to put dep after my ID number to access something which I never understood.  It always rejected my login under dep, and I was embarrassed at that time to contact Support, so I just never used it, whatever its purpose was.   So, now that we apparently can't access it, I don't miss it. ...

Do Any At Home MTs Miss This...
Feb 09, 2010

I totally miss getting a huge snowstorm (like today in my area, 10 to 14 inches) and being able to call in to work to say "I can't make it in today... the roads are horrible" I am trying hard to concentrate on work today, but all I want to do is call in to work, go outside and build a huge snowman, then shovel a little, and come in and make a huge mug of hot chocolate and watch it snow.   LET IT SNOW!!!! ...

I Really Miss Straight Transcribing - Hate VR
Jan 28, 2011

I have my first job ever with VR and absolutely hate it; I hardly make any money at it; get tired of constantly changing he to she, adding commas where the machine left them out; I feel like my talent of being a fast typist is being wasted.  I might type 2-3 reports a night and of course they are always the shortest reports of the night! I am so glad I was in transcription at its heyday but those days are long gone as is my love and enthusiasm for this career that I have dedicated 38 years ...

2014 - Not A Good Year For This MT — But I Found A Good Fit (finally)
Jan 12, 2015

Rarely do I start discussion on mtstars - however, 2014 was a particularly challenging year for myself - an experienced MT/Editor (15+ years). However, I realize that many other MTs may be in the same position, i.e., having many years devoted to working at the Big MTSOs including “the M,” and “the N” and (now to be included) “the T” following close behind in total numbers of MT/Editors on staff. (Hint: Sure most of you know the M, the N and the T - and the names have been int ...

Yes I Miss "old Google"
Oct 16, 2010

I was telling my husband just yesterday that I can't find anything on Google any more.  The search is so broad that no matter how I try to tighten up the search parameters, the list is all over the place and makes it exceedingly hard to find what I am looking for.  I thought I was going crazy.  Glad to know it is Google and not me.  ...
