Professional Transcrptions of NW FL - RLee

Compensation is .05 cents for every 43 black characters.  Who would want this job?  Maybe they will get a lot of applicants from India.    Saw this advertised on an MT related job board.

I saw that too ...sm - sosmt

doesn't sound like you get paid for spaces either... I'm gonna jump on this on! NOT!! >:(

So that would be 10 cents per 86 characters. - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
So that equates to about 8 cpl if it were 65 characters with spaces. Not really off by much offered these days.

Do the math!

Oh no it is not. Did the math. - MTangel

[ In Reply To ..]
No, that would not be. It would be about 23% less. I did the math. I took a document and counted it without the spaces and then with using 43 cpl w/o and 65 with and for the same document I would make $5.91 with the 0.05 per line/43 cpl, and $7.52 at the 0.08/65 cpl. That is significant! I think they do this to trick us.
Dont forget, theyre not paying for spaces. - .05 = 5 cpl x 43 = $5.21.

nm
That is exactly what I said. Look again - MTangel
[ In Reply To ..]
When you compare a document at the 0.05/43 cpl without spaces it comes to $5.91.

When you do the same document counting 0.08 cpl/65 cpl with spaces you get $7.91.

So, same document:

0.05 cpl/43 cpl (no spaces) you get $5.91

0.08 cpl/65 cpl (WITH) spaces you get
$7.52.

See what I mean? This is a major difference! Think about how much you will get ripped off at the end of a workday! That is about 23 percent less.
I just did it. - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
This is a one page document.

1832 w/o spaces divided by 43 x 0.05 = $2.15

2195 w spaces divided by 65 x 0.08 = 2.72

So, a difference of 50 cents.
significant isn't it? - MTangel
[ In Reply To ..]
See, this is what I mean. You will get paid about 23% less with the 0.05/43 cpl (without) spaces then you would if you were getting 0.08 cpl/65 cpl with spaces. This to me is just too much of a difference.
Sciance does this as well!! Run!! - jm0405

The problem with Sciance and these companies not paying for spaces, they won't tell you if the line count you see is accurate or are they still going to deduct #'s from it because most MT platforms cannot ignore spaces when they calculate line counts.

At Sciance, I typed 12 or 13 reports..one of them was 18 min long, 3 pages. I thought my line count would be up there, considering most of the others were at least a full page, some 2 pages...lot of typing. For kicks and grins, how many lines?? A little over 400. I asked the supervisor at Sciance at that point, "Is this 400 line thing what I am getting paid 0.095 for or are you going to subtract more from that number due to this "pay black characters only." HE NEVER ANSWERED ME! I then asked about my paycheck, he said they might send me one in the mail if they feel like it, etc...I quit immediately!!

This "no-spaces" deal is a rip off.

Lack Of Professional Etiquette

No So Professional Regarding Shower Gifts
Feb 28, 2012

I just do not think its professional to send out emails regarding gifts for a baby.  If so many people asked why not just send them an email via their own personal email or a phone call.  Why do we all have to know where we can register for gifts.  They are not so employee friendly with us in other ways.  Think about it.  ...

TTS - Friendly, Polite, Yet Professional
Mar 10, 2012

Earlier this week TTS contacted me asking if I was interested in working with them (I had applied back in 2010 and due to various working conditions offered, I had declined the position). However, this offer, I must say, was most attractive. I read the post below; however, after talking with the recruiter I found: a.  She was most knowledgeable and helpful with my questions, friendly, polite, yet professional. b.  Pay offered was close to 10 cpl (straight text) and close to 5 cpl (VR).  ...

This is some of the worst audio I have EVER heard in my 30+ years in this business.  I have sent emails and IM's but "apparently, the problem is on my end, becuase everything is as clear as a bell."   NOT!  Short, clippy, clinic notes, and QA pickier than all get out.  I notated a tempate where I thought there was an incorrect spelling and was called on the carpet was that -- actually QA was wrong.  With the amount of lines they expect as an IC per day, it is ridiculous and of course, ...

I am greatly disheartened that you still have comments from when an old supervisor was there and that is hurting our company.  We place adds with you all on occasion and would like to know how to reply to some of these nasty comments.  At least give a company a chance to defend themselves from old disgruntled transcribers.  Seems a bit one-sided.  Some of these comments are borderline slanderous. ...

Need Help With Macros/auto Text In Microsoft Office 7 Professional Version
Oct 08, 2010

I will start working from home as an MT next week, however have discovered that the software (Microsoft Office 7, Professional Version) required by the company is quite different from 2003 version.  I have used autotext for years when transcribing by simply highlighting and saving to keyboard strokes easy to remember, but the 07 version has several other names for autotext like building blocks, etc, and will only allow 255 characters.  I have tried setting up a macro, as well with diff ...
