Professional/Social MT/Editor Groups In New York City - FourGalore

Posted: Dec 20, 2010

Hello, I am a medical transcriptionist and, lately, a medical editor who lives in New York City. I would like to meet fellow MTs/editors in my area for professional and social purposes. I am having a bit of trouble finding data on the Internet that points out MT groups (or even just individuals) in the NYC metro area. I was wondering if anyone had any information about such groups in NYC. Please let me know. Or, if you are an individual MT/editor who just wants to reach out and say "hello", please do so. THANKS and happy holidays to you and yours!

I do not live in your area, but your job sounds interesting. You don't transcribe anymore? Do you do strictly medical editing work? What exactly are you editing, and how did you get into that field of work? I live in North Carolina on the East Coast. It is nice to meet you! I like perusing this board and reading what people have to say about different things.

MT/MLS Advocacy Groups?
Jan 18, 2013

Does anyone know if there are any advocacy groups or something for us out there? I've been seriously screwed over by Nuance in such a huge way that I can't even describe it in the word count most places allow. I was hoping that there was someone, some group, anybody out there that we can go to in our profession for help or advice or whatever. Any help would really be great. Thanks. ...

Maybe Just A Plan To Recycle Groups Of 60 To
Mar 11, 2014

they can't pass the QA of the apprenticeship and conveniently there are no more MT positions to move to. Would definitely save them money than having a mass layoff and their unemployment account rated accordingly. You never know. The whole timing of this new "program" just seems so suspect. I really hope this isn't the case and those applying and hoping to get in do find it a positive experience, but I think there are too many red flags and the whole timing is suspect, as if it wer ...

Online Support Groups For MTs
May 08, 2014

Reading this site has confirmed what I already knew--that medical transcriptionists everywhere are being squeezed, cut, marginalized, denigrated, demoralized by the current trends in our industry.   This has taken a major toll on my emotional, as well as financial health, as it has for many of you.  The lack of control we now experience in our work lives exacts a high price from us.   With that said though, discussing all the minutia of what's wrong with our employer, dicta ...

Good Source Of Labs For H&Ps That Are Grouped In Proper Groups
May 24, 2013

Does anyone have a good source of labs for H&Ps that are grouped in proper groups so I can quickly look and know when to put the period and start another group?  I'm looking for a quick reference sheet or something that I can refer to without having to go look up the things that I don't remember. I'm trying to learn them all but there are just so many that it's overwhelming at times.  I'd even take a Word document if you have created your own references.    ...

Partial Unemployment In New York State?
Sep 06, 2012

Has anyone ever applied for and received partial unemployment in New York state? I looked at their unemployment benefits website and it looks like if you work at all in a day you are considered to have worked that day and you can only get partial unemployment if you work less than 4 days a week? I have been struggling with very low work or no work for weeks now. I was hoping that I could apply for partial unemployment, but I'm not sure how I would qualify. TIA! ...

Social Security Taxes
Jan 11, 2011

This is my first year to work solely as an IC.  I have been sending quarterly taxes in to the IRS using the form 1040 payment vouchers they supplied.  It has just occurred to me that I don't know if any of the money I am sending in is going to Social Security tax.  I am not sure how it is allocated.  I send in 25-30% of my earnings.  Can anyone with more knowledge about this help me understand?  Thanks so much!  ...

I have grown tired of looking for a job, and it just so happens I turn 62 next month, so I'm out of the MT market.  Goodbye to you MTSOs who play games with hard working people trying to put food on the table.  It's gonna catch up with you and as they say, "Jimmy Crack Corn and....."  I pray you MTs who are younger will find jobs or get out of this dying field.  It has really changed in the last 15 years, but radically changed in the last 2.  Goodbye.&nbs ...

Social Security. HaHa! Tried To Apply-absolutely Frustrated
Dec 03, 2009

First, they took almost $300 off me back in the '90s because I didn't pay for a year.Does wages of $37 and payment of $2 to SS count? The following year, it shows no income. Okay, maybe I didn't work that year but I still had 40 credits then. Now, I tried to apply and they want my W2 for 2008 according to the online applications. SS called me today. They show no wages for me in 2005. Send a W2, but they do have 2008 and  i don't have to send that. They show les ...
