Professional Dictation Associates - really getting fed up

Posted: Aug 19, 2012

This is some of the worst audio I have EVER heard in my 30+ years in this business.  I have sent emails and IM's but "apparently, the problem is on my end, becuase everything is as clear as a bell."   NOT!  Short, clippy, clinic notes, and QA pickier than all get out.  I notated a tempate where I thought there was an incorrect spelling and was called on the carpet was that -- actually QA was wrong.  With the amount of lines they expect as an IC per day, it is ridiculous and of course, no one available via IM.  This is all for a whopping 7 cents per line and right now, working on a massive headache.  Vent over

Why do you keep sabotaging yourself? If you - ?

need a job so bad you need to do whatever it takes. They aren't going to accommodate you, you have to accommodate them or find a new job, or just wait until the terminate you.

sabotage self? - Really???

In this day when we are expected to type dictations verbatim, unless of course the dictators keep repeating, repeating, repeating, we leave THAT out even though truly verbatim everything they say would be typed, then for all our efforts we are treated like verbal janitor and paid less every day, not to mention blamed for anything and everything even when it's not our fault. THAT is what you call self-sabotage? I think we DO go above and beyond, everyone needs to vent sometimes.

Same boat with audio, so it's not on your end. I find there are files I just cannot hear at all, so I exit, and go back later. Frustrating to say the least. I had actually posted on this, see below and there are others with the audio issue as well. Someone had suggested a program to improve audio, looked into it, but I don't think it would work. Have no clue what to do.

I have the same problem with PDA - the sound is so muffled all the time - it sounds like the old days of tapes when they were being used over and over. what audio program was suggested? I have tried a few, but really nothing helps with this acct.

Someone suggested GearPlayer. I've heard it's pretty good. On another board I saw Transcribe! mentioned.

I don't know. I hate to quit after just starting, but it's pretty discouraging.

Gameplayer was what was suggested. I did google it and read about it, but it sounds to me more like a transcription platform than something to boost sound. I also googled "how to boost sound in Emdat/Inscribe" and didn't really find anything. If anyone comes up with a solution, please feel free to share.

Oops. Gearplayer. I work nights, totally exhausted. My apologies.

There is a program/device called Turtle Beach that - me

I found helpful when I worked for a company with bad audio. I think they have 3 different levels. I bought it at Best Buy for about $30. There were all kinds of things to play with to improve the sound, but generally a USB headset bypassses the sound card of your computer and will give you better quality sound. I bought some at Radio Shack for about $25 that really made a difference and they also had an in-line volume control so I got extra volume.

Having said all that, you can only do so much with poor sound quality. It sounds like the company may be rerecording the dictation from the client, which in itself will give you poor quality.

It is also possible that they are using tapes as someone suggested and then rerecording them so that than can be uploaded digitally.

TransAm Associates, Valrico, FL
Aug 23, 2013

Does anybody know anything about TransAm Associates in Valrico, FL.  I've heard many different things, good and bad, but have found out after working for them that they simply do not have enough work to go around.  Sometimes I will have a lot of work and actually make a good buck, but then the rest of the month (yep paid once a month) - is so bleak and in "feast or famine" mode, may only see two to four jobs per day, thus negating all the earnings I made earlier in the month!  ...

TTS - Friendly, Polite, Yet Professional
Mar 10, 2012

Earlier this week TTS contacted me asking if I was interested in working with them (I had applied back in 2010 and due to various working conditions offered, I had declined the position). However, this offer, I must say, was most attractive. I read the post below; however, after talking with the recruiter I found: a.  She was most knowledgeable and helpful with my questions, friendly, polite, yet professional. b.  Pay offered was close to 10 cpl (straight text) and close to 5 cpl (VR).  ...
