I recently read a job posting that required 150 lph for straight type and 225 for VR -
Does this make sense ? These companies are using the excuse that we should be able to produce "twice as many lines" with VR - thus - HALF the pay. If that is truly the case, then why in the world would the line requirement not reflect that as well. Obviously, these companies know VR is not nearly as productive for the MT as they claim; however, I would venture to guess with the MT making half the money, the companies are making TWICE the money going with VR.
It's not natural to type using only ctrl keys, it's not paid fairly, and the software does not "learn" like they say.
In my opinion, it's a dangerous way to go as MTs feel they have to fly through reports because they are making so much less money, and VR makes some pretty serious mistakes.
I have yet to work in a platform where I have met, let alone, exceeded what I was making doing straight transcription.
If there are straight typing jobs out there, they are very few. I actually just saw an job post for a copy where the are charging the MT $150 for installing their software on the MT's computer!?! I know that it has been complained about several times, but I too feel very frustrated. I remember a time when I said I would not work for less than 12 cents a line. Now I work for much less and use my own equipment. I feel like pretty soon I will be paying the company to work for them.
