My doctor nephew just found out why his reports are full of holes - mte

Posted: Dec 01, 2009

His dictation is going offshore and coming back a mess. He doesn't have time to sit down and edit and there is nobody at the hospital doing any proofing. I know the VA won't allow offshoring but does anyone know who at the VA made that decision and how I can get ahold of them?

Why doesn't nephew speak up - raise a fuss about it himself

I think a doctor complaining would be more credible, and have more of a chance of being listened to and possibly acted upon, than having Auntie MT marching to the principal's office about it.

Hmmm...that's an odd reply - mte

What did my post say? He just found out. As in j-u-s-t found out. I think he will make a fuss. But your snide reply makes me wonder about you.

Call U.S. Dept Of Veterans' Affairs..... google and you - can get info......nm

I agree with the question why doesn't your nephew speak up? I know he just found out but I bet if he talks to the other docs they have seen the same thing, it can't just be his reports unless he is a really lousy dictator. Every place that I have worked that the docs got together and raised H#@@ about not being able to sign their reports because they are so full of holes/blanks/errors they took it right to the top, heads rolled and things changed. Doc's aren't happy: no one is happy. I think the VA is going to wonder why you are calling to find out info (if they will even give it to you, they are usually pretty tight lipped in administration when they don't really know who is on the other end of the phone) for your nephew who is a doctor, successfully completed medical school and auntie is trying to find out how to fix his problems for him. I am not trying to be sarcastic but your nephew, being a doctor, has more power than you will ever have to change the situation where he works. What I have seen happen on numerous occassions and numerous locations is one day they all just get fed up and they refuse to dictate anymore...when all the docs band together and refuse to dictate they get a solution really fast.

Thanks. Like I said, he is going to do just that - mte

I posted the previous note because he doesn't have time to come on this board and post it himself. Auntie is not doing his bidding. I thought it would be helpful for people to read an anecdote about offshoring. Then, somehow, it turned into auntie doing his dirty work for him.

from being offshored and that anyone coming in contact with those records needs to have some sort of background check performed on them? When I worked on a Tennessee VA account years ago I didn't have a background check performed on me (or maybe I did and just didn't know about it), either way I could swear I read somewhere a while back that VA accounts were prohibited from being offshored due to it being military personnel records. Anyone else recall reading this article? I'll have to search for it later and see if I can find it.

Just a realty check. May be he is really an awful dictator too! That and the dictation being done God only knows where is a terrible combination.

Used to do VA clinics until they went overseas - FlaMt

[ In Reply To ..]
They didn't do any background check or any other type of "checking" for that matter. They only required that I take an online VHA Privacy Training course that took about an hour and rcvd a "certificate" once completed. That's it. I'm sure they had those offshore MTs take the same course. It's just a piece of paper that they can use to cover their butts if someone says it's a privacy threat offshoring this kind of work.

Doctor's Full Name And Title?
Dec 26, 2009

When you transcribe a doctor's name in the body of the report, do you always need to transcribe the doctor's full name and title, even if not dictated as such - for example, would you need to transcribe "Adam Adams, MD" even if just dictated as "Dr. Adams," and look up the full name and title? I'm always required to do so but can't find it in the BOS. I'm new so I don't know if this has been posted yet. Thanks. ...

Love Full Listening ILP Reports For 3cpl....!!!
Nov 25, 2009

Because I need my job I bite hard everyday to continue with MQ. Being an MME is horrible when you are paid 3 cpl to full listen ILP.  I get paid more to ME my own ASR reports which take me sometimes just as long.  Each time the situation is mentioned on how unfair it is to only get 3 cpl to full listen ILP reports we are always told that it really isn't that many reports....funny I did over 90 of them in a pay period and they aren't short reports ever always long... ...

Doctor Reporting Poor Quality Reports....
Feb 18, 2015

sooooo...I just received an email from the quality person of the day.  She said the client requested an audit of all reports for a certain provider based upon poor quality.  Two of my reports came up on this audit as being below 99.5.  These reports had 1-point errors on them because of omitted and/or inserted medical words.    I am not denying that I made the mistakes.  However, if there is a consistent quality problem with a certain provider, perhaps...and I kno ...

Psych Report + Doctor Says "full Psy-A"
Sep 11, 2010

On a psych consultation the doctors says what sounds like "full psy-A" indicates a high level of obsessiveness. I researched this heavily for an acronym that would match that study and did not find it.  I finally decided he was speaking in a clipped manner for "full psychoanalysis". What do you think? This is a new job and a new doc to me, so any help you can offer would be appreciated.  ...

Overheard A Doctor Telling Another Doctor...
Oct 15, 2010

20 years ago when the DRG's hit the hospitals, one  was complaing to the other... "they treat doctors like a bunch of old dogs now".  Well, that's how  MTs are being treated now.  Why on God's green earth do the MT services require all MT's to work at least one weekend day every week (Friday's and Monday's  don't count). Every ad I see on the Job Seeker board requires weekends.  Are they sadistic or something.  Why do we put u ...

I just found out that even though I am doing the minimal required lines (120) I am not earning minimum wage and so even if I increase my lines I won't make any more money....Until I am typing over 160 lines.   I am so angry.   Now they are pressuring me to get higher lines so I can get out of them paying minimum wage.  Which is insulting in itself.  I am going to try to do it and then be a benefited employee.  But I am just angry that 120 lines doesn' ...

Something That I Found Very Interesting
Nov 21, 2009

Just for the heck of it, I went to the resume section of this board, and noticed there were quite a few MTs with "entry-level or less than 5 year's experience" wanting to be compensated 10-15 cpl  -- I really seriously doubt that is going to happen, especially for a "newer" MT.  I would suggest that if you are really serious about finding a job in MT, then revise your expected compensation rate to something a bit more realistic. ...

In my quest to improve SOMETHING, I stumbled across "job burnout."  I think it is my problem and wanted to share. This is particularly striking among burnout victims who were once very enthusiastic and dedicated." There is some very good information and might be helpful.  At ...
