While not an MM employee, my heart goes out to all who got let go recently.

What's the most messed up is that the CCMs are actually telling those they lay off that there is a chance for rehire in the future if "the work picks up." Yeah right. Do they actually think we are that stupid and don't know where the work is really going? If they call me back EVER I will tell them to shove it up "where the sun don't shine" However, I won't say it that way. I'll get banned from the board posting what I'd REALLY say.

Love transcribing - the real stuff - straight typing which keeps my interest up instead of mind numbing and _almost_ mindless editing. Wish I didn't have to be in training for a new line of work, especially in my late 50s. Wish I had finished court reporting training, but life got in the way.

Now to top it off... - it seems like they

[ In Reply To ..]
they want those of us who work at home (no percs, no raises, provide own electricity, internet and equipment), to be like their Indian factory workers. What I tell them: If you want factory workers here in US, build giant factories, we come in, punch a clock and you have overseer monitoring our every move (TSM tried this with me, and I pretty much told her fuggetaboutit).

I also hope this article gets recycled to the top of this board at least weekly, so that way no one is all shocked and surprised when they lose their job. By now we should have all have Plan B firmly in place.

Not that we didn't already know this, but... - sm

further proof of future layoffs: : "Currently, M*Modal employs over 120 people in Mysore and plans to ramp up its headcount to 500 over the next 24 months."

So they plan to add 380 more MTs in the next 2 years -- means at least 380 US MTs will lose their jobs in the next 2 years. Probably more. Makes me sick.

That article is dated Dec of last year - JustMe

[ In Reply To ..]
I found that article on the internet and it was dated Dec. 6, 2012, more than 8 months ago, so many of the layoffs may already be in part due to that, so it doesn't necessarily mean 380 more will be let go IMHO.

that's what i was thinking - old news and irrelevent.

In the page where I found it, it stated that... - MM wanted to offshore
[ In Reply To ..]
most of it's work by 2014. This article was referenced. I too saw that it was from 2012, but felt it was relevant because of the reference to 2014.
That is old news and MModal never hid that fact - bragged about on a regular basis actually
[ In Reply To ..]
No new info here. All MM employees know what is going on, as they post each new offshore expansion on the intranet page with great fanfare.

I am sad that a job I have made a decent living off of for 17 years is soon to be no more. But I cannot say I didn't have ample warning. The writing has been on the wall for many, many years.

The fact that some of us refused to believe it and failed to prepare for this day, is pretty much on us.
Missed that memo - artlady

This is a cyber job. Moving operations to another country is one thing, but giving the ax to American wrokers without formal notice is quite another and I believe that most of the people who received word this past week did not know. Trust me, I do not have my head stuck in the sand, either. I inquired about a relocation within the company and was denied. Offshore "Expansion"? Expansion indicates growth. I did not see anywhere that there was going to be a downsizing of parttime and fulltime positions in the US in order to "expand". This was not an above-board dismissal by MModal. I have been lied to all the way up the food chain regarding what has been going on for apparently the past few years.

I found the below on the Company Board, and wondered if this could be true? ... Because you've already put in your 40 hours. It is illegal to change your timesheets so they don't have to pay overtime. If they can't give you sufficient work and keep hiring people who take your work away from you, find a company that will give you enough work. I just found out that even though I am doing the minimal required lines (120) I am not earning minimum wage and so even if I increase my lines I won't make any more money....Until I am typing over 160 lines.   I am so angry.   Now they are pressuring me to get higher lines so I can get out of them paying minimum wage.  Which is insulting in itself.  I am going to try to do it and then be a benefited employee.  But I am just angry that 120 lines doesn' ...

Something That I Found Very Interesting
Nov 21, 2009

Just for the heck of it, I went to the resume section of this board, and noticed there were quite a few MTs with "entry-level or less than 5 year's experience" wanting to be compensated 10-15 cpl  -- I really seriously doubt that is going to happen, especially for a "newer" MT.  I would suggest that if you are really serious about finding a job in MT, then revise your expected compensation rate to something a bit more realistic. ...

In my quest to improve SOMETHING, I stumbled across "job burnout."  I think it is my problem and wanted to share. "A strong signal that the burnout victim is sliding into an existential crisis of meaninglessness is evident when the person's statements about work are cloaked with a "so what?" or "why bother?" attitude. This is particularly striking among burnout victims who were once very enthusiastic and dedicated." There is some very good information and might be helpful.  At ...

I was looking for job openings at our local hospital and it's a long story but, found out that they have taken their transcription back in-house.  Too many mistakes, not enough quality work, bad turn around times, et al.  I am applying today, in person with them.  I will offer to scrub their floors if that is what it takes to get back in to transcribing.  I know folks who work there and they get a very fair wage, benefits and time off!  ...

How Are You Paid For PTO? Just Found Out About Mine

Any MTs In California Who Have Found It Difficult To
