Mandatory weekend day? - anon

Posted: Jul 18, 2012

I just listened to the monthly meeting and she said ALL employees are now required to work at least 1 weekend day?

Has anyone who is M-F been forced to change their schedule yet?

mandatory weekend day - mt20years

Oh, it's coming. I was a direct hire, but I know that Pukance will conform you to their ways or you will be sitting around with NJA. You will be forced to work Tuesday thru Sat or Sun thru Thursday, so get ready. Also, get ready for the paycuts cause they are coming. I have been here close to a year and figured out how they operate. Their feeling is, just be glad you have a job in this economy. My husband tells me to quit EVERY SATURDAY MORNING.

Nuance will conform you or else. Sad but true.

My husband tells me that too....I walked 2 weeks ago. - mt

No one has even emailed me to say "where are you???" But I'm pretty sure I'm not eligible for UE since I quit so guess where I may be come MOnday morning. sigh.

Personally, that is only fair, that everyone gets one weekend day to work - I work one!

However, it is also not really fair to pull a switcheroo, if you were hired as M-F. - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
They should have to honor what they promised when they hire you.

If you were hired as M-F, then you should get to keep that.

Life isn't "fair" in any case, but an agreement is an agreement, whether that is "fair" to others who did not receive the same agreement or not.

I was hired for M-Friday years ago, sm - anon

But had to change to one weekend day a couple of years ago. It is only fair to the rest of us who are giving up a weekend day. I also was promised a certain line rate that was reduced a couple of years ago and continues to be reduced. So, if they cannot honor the line rate or even paying for headings, bolding, and returns between paragraphs.....why is M-F any different?

I know it sucks, and I dislike it, as well.
I guess it is true, no honor among thieves. - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
I passed over a better company and better line rate because of the M-F schedule. That ticks me off in a big way.
if you were hired for M-F - ugh
[ In Reply To ..]
then you should stay at M-F. I work a weekend day but I was hired for that and agreed to do that. It's unfair to make someone work a weekend day when they never agreed on that upon hire. I was hired for 1st shift, but they switched my account and now have to work 2nd. The reason I chose this company over another was because of the hours. But, it was either change hours or you don't have a job. Same principle. Very annoying.

Weekend - Tired

[ In Reply To ..]
Yep, sure was. I was hired M-F five years ago and three weeks ago, had to change to Sunday through Thursday.

Did you get to pick different hours at least? - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
I guess I could tolerate Sun-Thurs but not witht he hours I work now.

If one person has to do it, then everyone should. Sorry my opinion - and you know what they say!!

Weekend day - btdt25

[ In Reply To ..]
Everyone should have to regardless of what they were hired for - I've worked a weekend day for last 20 years - worked family events and vacations around it. Tell someone in the hospital needing a report done that they have to wait because you don't work weekends. Medicine/this biz is 24/7/365. IMHO

Well, that is what you are for. I was hired for M-F. - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
No wonder this industry has hit rock bottom. Everyone has such a juvenille attitude.

I have worked for YEARS AND YEARS doing both weekend days. I asked for M-F and they said "sure." Not my problem that you didn't.

If someone made you a deal and reneged on it, you would be none to happy, regardless of all the poor suckers who didn't get the deal you did.

Sheesh.

Weekend day+20 years=your choice - fair comes once a year

[ In Reply To ..]
Hospitals also have what is called PRN shifts...some of those include people that choose to work weekends for extra $ or whatever. Working weekends is fair when you make that choice...not fair when you pass up what would have been a better job because the present one clearly blew smoke up your crack

Here is what I think - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
If you were hired Mon-Fri, that is your schedule. If they need extra coverage on the weekend, hire weekend workers. There are people wanting to work just weekends. Also, sweeten the pot. I am not giving up all my weekends for nothing. I used to work every Saturday even when not scheduled to because the boss would give me an extra 2 cpl to work. Well, I wanted the money, so I worked it. My company took away the weekend bonus, took away night shift differential, and to me, they took away the incentive to work those days/shifts!

I am sick of the excuse that the medical field is a 24/7 job. There is pleanty of staff who do not work weekends. When every single medical field job works Sun-Thu or Tue-Sat, then I will too.

I would rather find another job than be forced to work every single weekend!

I think a lot of these companies should have thought of this BEFORE they just hired willy-nilly. They need to advertise and hire for the times they NEED COVERED. Is it just me or does this make more sound business sense? Also, if they want people to cover those times, PAY DIFFERENTIAL! Most places do! Don't sit there and pont and blame the ones you have already hired at the schedules you have already hired them at while you are backhandedly sending offshore with the SAME DARN EXCUSE of having NO NIGHT COVERAGE?! This makes no sense. What also makes no sense is sneaking around and sending accouts offshore (though we would up and leave your butts if we knew) and those having to come back and be edited AGAIN. How is that cheaper or better for TAT?
Last, but certainly not least, why not keep jobs in America and certainly private information about American citizens in America? Is there no worry from, at the very least, the doctors or hospitals about this information? Do any of these companies have any pride? And, quit waving your American flags while putting the screws to Americans. *Getting off soapbox* So done!

Keeping jobs in America - Guess who

[ In Reply To ..]
Why not keep MT jobs in America? Because the workers complain when they are asked to work a weekend day, for one thing. I changed my M-F schedule years ago to work a weekend day because my boss asked me to. Right now, if they asked me to turn cartwheels down the hall I'd probably do it, I need the job. I don't work for Nuance but staffing needs change. Unless you signed a contract stating that you were specifically hired for M-F your schedule can be changed to cover client need. Doing what you are asked is called team work. Nuance and all the other companies represent medical facilities in this country. They sign confidentiality statements when they take on the account, and their offshore partners do the same. The information is kept private. I think the companies do advertise for the times they need covered but some (I'm not saying all) people don't work their scheduled hours, so they hire more people, then there is not enough work to go around.
Point taken, but let's not delude ourselves about why jobs are going ... - anon

to India. It isn't because I want M-F, it's because I won't accept 1-2 cpl.

It's about $$$, not a poor US MT attitude. That is just offensive to say based on the reality of our situation.
$$$$=only thing keeping jobs in America - fair comes once a year
[ In Reply To ..]
If you would just take a quick peek at what you are replying to, you would conclude that everyone complaining was hired specifically for M-F...In the almost 3 years with this company I have been through 8 different accounts and 6 different supervisors, of which I have only verbally spoken to 1. I am not against lending a hand when needed, but REALLY? It's obvious the pay is not getting any better, hours are only getting worse, and no such thing as a permanent schedule, but a little recognition goes a long way. You scratch my back, I'll scratch yours.
